Sorry, can't hear you. The creature's thighs are covering my ears as he's halfway down my throat.
being doomed by the narrative is cool and all but i like when a character is doomed just by being a fucking idiot. sorry that happened to you but it is entirely your own fault and you could have just chosen to not do all that

Is that what I said? Alright, if we want to go there, I actually do think his LACK OF RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CREATURE directly caused those murders. Yes, it was the creature who committed the crimes, no question. Yet, Victor is the one who constantly bemoans his own existence, moping and lounging on the lake and hiking for days alone to avoid anything to do with the horror he solely unleashed on the world. The thing is, he INITIALLY BELIEVED THE CREATURE WAS EVIL, even having no reason to think that; The moment he saw him move, he assumed the creature would kill him. The moment he showed back up after the murder of William, he assumed he was the perpetrator, with no evidence. The fact he did it be damned, Victor only ever sees bad in him. If Victor believed the creature was abjectly evil and malicious from the very start of his life, WHY would he let him run off into the world, to begin with? Oh, cuz Victor was scared? Cuz he didn't want to face his own mistake? Stfu Victor you rancid deadbeat ass college dropout ass entitled prick. That alone makes it his fault, don't care. If he'd said at the beginning, "No wait, I should probably go take care of this guy before anything happens." That would have completely altered the narrative, and him as a character, but he doesn't. He just ignored the problem and hopes it goes away. "Not my monkey, not my circus." Even though it IS his monkey, currently destroying his circus. The horrible things that happen in this story ONLY happen because of his doing. He made the monster, and he made the monster into a villain. The monster ALSO let himself be blinded by rage and revenge, as Victor let himself be blinded by ignorance and want.
This is a very specific case with very specific features. You can't compare this to real life, necessarily. Let's say I went on a killing spree of my dad's friends because he neglected me, you would absolutely be correct to blame me, because I'm a grown adult with a multitude of varied influences, friends, and family members. But the creature is practically just a baby, with no basis for kindness directed at him, no idea what it feels like to be loved or cared for or have a smile flashed his way or a hug around his back. He has completely given up on ever being seen as more than what people assume him to be, and as such, resigned himself specifically to destroying his "father's" happiness, as he feels his father destroyed for him. He was never a child, never a teen, never had to learn to emotionally regulate or make friends. He is an entity unto himself, and that's all he sees himself as.
So... Yes. It IS completely insane, because this entire story is completely insane, and none of it would ever happen in real life.
being doomed by the narrative is cool and all but i like when a character is doomed just by being a fucking idiot. sorry that happened to you but it is entirely your own fault and you could have just chosen to not do all that

The difference in hue and skin tone between these two speaks volumes. Henry is so pure, so human, while the creature just... isn't. Perfect environmental storytelling.

During the day I was sustained and inspirited by the hope of night, for in sleep I saw my friends, my wife, and my beloved country;
Often, when wearied by a toilsome march, I persuaded myself that I was dreaming until night should come and that I should then enjoy reality in the arms of my dearest friends. What agonizing fondness did I feel for them! How did I cling to their dear forms, as sometimes they haunted even my waking hours.

when mary shelley wrote frankenstein i don't think she could have ever predicted that her gothic tale about a creature trying to find acceptance in an unforgiving world would be used for a vegas slot machine

Cory and Sue! Well, the Creature and Susan, my FrankenOC. Monster Hunter, self loathing werewolf, fears her transformations due to the damage she can cause to her loved ones. Good thing the creature is impervious to her attacks, which are small compared to his size and strength 😎
Now she’s just a pet sometimes.

I've always wanted him played by Joseph Quinn. Not even just because I have a lifelong Joseph Quinn obsession, either! He's excellent at playing sad, wet, pathetic little twink-type characters who flip flop between delusions of intense grandeur, and utter self loathing and dejection (cough cough, Arthur Havisham, my beloved) Joe also has perpetual baby face with huge brown baby deer eyes. Slap that fella in some regency attire and darken his eyebags and you got the perfect casting, I'm telling you.
...Then I want Boban Marjanovic for the creature.
What I say: I’m fine.
What I am thinking: How come Victor Frankenstein is always played by older people? One of the main points of Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus is to show that Victor was a young college kid who made huge mistakes that came to bite him in the end. If he isn’t played by someone in their early twenties, it loses that point entirely. He can’t be a young idiot who makes bad choices if he isn’t played by a *young* person.

Victor Frankenstein making a massive pathetic whiny victim out of himself when it was 1000% his own doing and he refuses to admit it
