What would the FFXIV OST would look like if you mapped it out and drew lines between the songs that share motifs?
Take a peek and find out. 🎶
Some numbers:
There are 471 songs and 477 individual motifs in this chart at time of publishing
There are 567 instances of motifs appearing in other songs (so far)
22 motifs are established in 1.0, 43 in ARR, 19 in HW, 16 in StB, 13 in ShB, and 20 in EW
There are only four degrees of separation between "A Sailor Never Sleeps", the Limsa Lominsa night theme, and "The Final Day", which plays during the final 6.0 trial???
I have so many feelings about being a 4 eyed genderless alien in a dying solar system. Trees are magic. Marshmallows are universal. Music will make the world.
i love seeing other people post about the mechanics of outer wilds like. we’ve all experienced crashing your ship into ash twin trying to get to ember twin. we all know the pain of going “ive totally got this” before smashing into bits of debris around brittle hollow. we all know how absolutely maddening it is to hear the sun music when you JUST got somewhere cool and know it’s gonna be hard to get back there
When Outer Wilds decided to compare exploring your local solar system with a hike in the woods what it really did was to say that science and exploration are already worthwhile just for the act of experiencing something yourself firsthand. Just going out and seeing new things.
The whole game is about looking at things. Nomai controls following the look of your reticle. Quantum objects changing when you look away and back again. The Eye of the Universe sitting there and waiting for you to perceive it.
When you enter the Eye first there is nothing, then the first thing you see is the first thing you know that is real - yourself. Then you see the world around you, and then the people that are most important to you. Then you bring about a whole new existence, just by being there and perceiving, and bringing in your own experiences.
Outer Wilds is about how just being there and experiencing the world is enough of a reason to exist.
