God but the way I am still not over Godzilla Minus One. The way the central theme of Life and Hope is woven into every aspect of the plot, including the battle in the finale, is driving me feral -
Because they use a refrigerant gas to sink him. They use technology used in life-vests and rafts to bring him up. When that fails, they use rescue tugboats to pull him the rest of the way, and the final blow is delivered by a kamikaze pilot with an ejection seat - subverting every expectation of what a dramatic battle should be. It is not about fighting a war but ending it.
Godzilla is brought down by life-saving technology and hope for the future, that’s the point, that’s the entire point

more than the loose thread of where real kang bitna is (because she's probably in heaven), I'm peeved at the scene where Satan says "wander in your nightmares" and the sudden scene shift after that. All this time i was waiting for a plot twist or explanation for that but you're telling me that was just an editing issue??
#judge from hell#this doesn't mean i didn't like the finale#i loved it to death and back#i miss them so much already

i love the chair so much aaaa the dismantling of the dark academia aesthetic. making academics so painfully human and flawed. showing exactly why "ethical" dark academia and "diverse" academia, while valuable to students, subjects faculty of color to the worst fucking treatment and scapegoating imaginable. showing people that if on the high, lofty, ideal ivy league aesthete level of education, the humanities are still in jeopardy and the solution is not to romanticize them and write off the people keeping them alive in our own communities as if their work is worth less because their classes are boring and the building is ugly but to commit yourself to the fight as well. to fall deeply in love with it. to press your own lips to drowning bodies on the deck of the sinking ship. examining the limits of white male mediocrity as an excuse and engaging with the idea that just like women who are brilliant are encouraged to abandon their academic careers for their families, some men who are academics and brilliant can and should be allowed to spend their time engaging with domesticity and it isn't an inherently lesser pursuit because caregivers are also our first educators. holding administrative staff accountable for their fucking crimes. the idea that people who form "the old guard" also have their unique suffering from marginalization while perpetrating oppressive systems, wether it's ageism or sexism. the fucking music. the set design. i'm suckling bones as if they yield mother's milk i love this goddamn show.

mxtx really introduced xie lian into tgcf by taking the initiative to jump off a building in a perfect imitation of a god descending into the mortal world. the whole crowd impressed his grace: at just 17 years old, even before he ascended, he already looked like a god.
but not any god.
acting out the script written, he dressed like the heavenly emperor, he reproduced a feat of the heavenly emperor, he wore a heavenly emperor mask, everyone saw him as the heavenly emperor.
but he was not jun wu, he was xie lian, and confident in his own ideals, he deviated from the script written for himself to ensure personally that the life of a child of his people would be saved: that was the precise moment when the mask with another person's face fell, revealing his own face, just as his attitude revealed who he really was. this is the tale of his highness who pleased the gods: for the ideals in his heart, he would dare to displease them.
thus, her invitation was made without us noticing: for us to observe how many times her protagonist would descend from the heavens on his own initiative, how many times he would be dressed by others as someone he was not, and how many times he would decide to deviate from the script written for him in favor of who he really was, only for the mask of someone else's face placed on his always fell in the end.

you won't know. you won't know what it's like to not be naturally liked by people, what it's like to force people to like you by entirely fabricating yourself to suit their needs. you won't know how it feels to claw your way through people's hearts because otherwise you would never receive love in any form. you don't know what it's like to have to demand and ask for attention because you wouldn't ever get it unconditionally. you never deserved it so why would you? there are many things you don't understand about living as me and that's fine. that should be fine.

what i love about into the ring is that something horrible will happen on screen and you would expect the camera to pan to goo se ra looking sad but instead in the corner of the screen she is just power walking in full speed with rage and fury in her eyes and chaos in her mind

seeing the preview for ep 10 i kind of immediately recognised what the episode was going to be about, not just on the surface level but what it's going to talk about and it made my heart swell. and yet YET this show caught me by surprise by how intricately it navigated through the nuances of disabilities and society. as the episodes go by, the questions, thoughts, pacing, dilemmas are lathered in greyness and it drives not just the characters but also the viewers' motivations and understanding of the world in a very realistic manner. i have fallen in love with this writer's careful yet powerful writing style that says out loud what can sometimes be twisted in interpretation and interprets clearly that which is unsaid.
#extraordinary attorney woo#moon ji won my beloved#not to say i will entirely trust the show blindly because i do that a lot and i wont make the same mistake#but everyday although my mental illness is not visible to neurotypicals eaw makes me feel seen#its a show made for everyone and does not shy away from metaphorically punching ppl in the face#love it so much#i need to be more vocal about my love for park eun bin but words fall short as always
