A bunch of little doodles using band photos as reference for my MARBLE HORNETS METAL BAND AU!!! <333

The main lineup:

Alex Kralie - rhythm guitar & vocals

Brian Thomas - lead guitar

Jay Merrick - bass guitar

Tim Wright - drums

The reason I say main lineup is because this is the lineup that eventually settles when they record their first album. HOWEVER, there was some funky stuff going on before this point.

Marble Hornets (name of the band, of course) was founded by Alex (then just vocals), around the same time and place as canon; they're all still in college. The initial members were Brian (lead guitar), Sarah (rhythm guitar), Seth (bass), and Tim (drums). Jay at this point is not in the band, but he's friends with Alex, so he sort of just hangs around. They joke about him being their roadie, but he does little-to-no equipment carrying :P

Despite just being the vocalist, Alex does play guitar, so he does most of the composing in their early days. He sticks to just being the vocalist because he doesn't have the hang of singing while playing yet, and out of the two occupations, singing is more important to him.

Spoiler, Alex is the Main Guy in this band, and at this point, everyone else just goes along with this. He made the band, he writes the songs (for now), he calls the shots. And he needs the band to be perfect in regards to his vision.

Sarah too is an outspoken fella, she herself has music she wants to write and share with the world. She joined Marble Hornets to express herself. Unfortunately for both her and Alex, their visions don't quite coincide, and Alex in particular refuses to budge. So he sacks Sarah and replaces her with himself.

The band is not quite better for it, technically at least. Especially at first, Alex does indeed struggle to balance singing and playing at the same time, though he improves. In addition, during this time, college hits a stressful couple months pre-finals, and the band sets into a lull as various members—especially Brian and Seth—are unavailable.

Alex, being Alex, does not stop obsessing over this band though. He continues practicing, continues writing songs, continues thinking about the band more or less nonstop. Jay comes over frequently to work on classwork together, for they share a lot of the same classes. They get to hang out, and Jay gets to make sure Alex hasn't been KO'd by his inability to stop hyperfocusing on his band? Count him in.

Of course, during their breaks, Alex defaults to fiddling with his guitar. Jay's transfixed as ever, and Alex makes the realization that he has a perfectly good jam buddy sitting in front of him. So he sets out to teach Jay guitar. Jay's receptive to it, and the two even head out to buy Jay his own guitar after a week. Jay ends up choosing a bass guitar, something Alex didn't quite expect, but he's not opposed.

Around this time is when Alex starts recording himself. Jay notices the camera during one of their break-turned-jam-sessions and asks about it. Alex shrugs it off, says he's sick of having to pause and write down any cool riffs or lyric ideas every time they come to mind. This makes sense to Jay. (He doesn't notice the tall figure watching them through the window; only Alex does, later, when he rewatches his footage.)

Final season comes and goes, and now it's summer. There's all the time in the world to put into Marble Hornets, and Alex is ecstatic. Regular bi-weekly practice sessions return.

Things are good for a couple weeks, except Alex is now perceiving Seth's performance as subpar and demands he practice more. Seth shrugs it off. He's not really that invested in the band anymore, it's not like they're performing real gigs, and it's summer. Does it kill a man to want free time? Alex fires him.

There's some surprise from the others, but it dies quickly when Alex appoints Jay as Marble Hornet's new bassist. Tim and Brian more or less foresaw this happening the moment they learned Alex and Jay were practicing during college busy season.

The next development for the band actually comes from Brian. He's found a new club looking for live music and suggests this to Alex. Alex gets in contact with them, and suddenly, they're getting gigs.

AAAAAAAnd that's more or less all I have solidified :D

Some bonus notes:

I really want Tim and Brian to secretly start a music duo called The Twins. They make electronic dance music

Currently debating if I want to go all in on "Alex kills people lmao". I 100% want the Operator to be there and cause problems, and I love the idea of adding Operator-induced paranoid to the LIVING HELL that is touring.

There is a phenomenon in bands with 4 people where they tend to form 2 pairs of 2 people in terms of how close they are to one another. I've never understood this because I keep having dynamics with an odd number of people, but Marble Hornets totally suffers from this, and now I DO...There is angst potential, however, especially when Jay + Tim get closer (because Jay starts realizing Alex has done some shady stuff?), so I am fine with this >:]

Not totally settled on the exact type of metal they play. There's the temptation to go with thrash, but a lot of that is because that's MY favorite metal genre. I'll probably make a list of bands I think they'd all listen to (based off of my music taste because I wish to be self indulgent) and pick something with influence from those

Whatever genre I go with, however, Alex will be very pretentious about it <3 He is a nice guy, so when it comes up, he's nice about it, but "posers" totally get under his skin. He will want to bite you if you wear a Metallica shirt without knowing who they are

They will have a band YouTube channel that will mostly be run by Jay. If I commit to "Alex does some shady stuff", its content will reflect Jay's realization that Alex has done some shady stuff

I want their first album to be a bunch of references to the canon Alex Kralie's Marble Hornets film

Need to rethink Alex and Jay's majors...

Brian, Tim, and Jay WILL do more in terms of writing songs for the band starting with their second album

Amy will be Marble Hornet's manager once they get to the first album + touring stage!

One of the bands they tour with consists of some configuration of Jessica, Taylor, Adam, David, and Sydney (comics characters). Maybe Adam + David will be interviewers instead of musicians, and the other 3 can be a trio?

The clothes they wear are a combination of their canon clothing (especially casually/offstage) and the more typical clothes worn by metal bands...Think leather jackets and band tees

OVERALL, this AU may have existed for Several Hours, but I am in love <33 (I AM GOING TO DRAW SO MANY THINGS.) If anyone has any ideas or anything at all to say, I would love to hear it :]
