Pretty like Transkei
Thirsty greens down battered towns
Ugly like Transkei

I’ve been listening to music on shuffle this morning and thought my first post should be random.
The first track that has resonated with me today - 5 hours into my alertness - is The Roots’ Stay Cool. It’s so incredibly suave and slick. It sounds so good to me.
They sampled Al Hirt’s Harlem Hendoo, from Soul in the Horn. Dope if you ask me…dope enough to be sampled on De La Soul’s Ego Trippin’ Part 2 as well. Of course Tipping Point came long after Buhloone Mindstate but whatever. (I ramble.)
"bass for your face, highs for your eyes"
Stay Cool, good people. And welcome.

If you wanna hear Harlem Hendoo.
Thank you, Mr Al Hirt.

Do you carry your grandmother’s soul?
As you trudge and traipse through the paths of the earth.
Is it a light load or have you been looking for a place to abandon it?
Does it smell good to you? Like iron rich red soil after the rain or damp beach sand stuck in the shoes you haven’t taken...

In my humble yet-to-discover-and-listen-to-more-music opinion, Slum Village is best rap and music group, ever.
Few things make me feel as good as Fantastic Vol. 2!
Feel and hear the Magic touch of James Yancey, good people.
My favourite tracks:
Untitled (Fantastic), Climax, Fall In Love, Thelonius, Get Dis Money, What It's All About.

(I think I'm starting to write again?)
Who mourned a man
before
he was dead.
looked
at the barely
there body..
..Willed tears
to come
..felt pity
..anger.
Plummeting
from the root
of my red hair
..passed
..all my
post
adolescent growth
abandoned
body.
my feet tapping
impatiently
for the reunion
to be over
away from
searching eyes
relieved that
I
“finally arrived”
in time,
as he was leaving.
We, missing
eachother
again

Fresh and New!
It always amazes me how a song of eviction and utter destruction has become a party song, much like Shosholoza, it has totally lost it’s narrative, never mind meaning. this was the thinking behind this interpretation of Meadowlands.
This Meadowlands interpretation is part of what I call The Land Act Medley, performed at the Melomo Festival.

Walls of Leila is a love story set in Cape Town South Africa that chronicles the life of Leila, a young Cape Malay girl who falls in love with an American boy, Derek. Kenyan filmmaker Amirah Tajdin and her producer sister Wafa Tajdin are currently working on this film which will be their first feature.
They ran a very successful kickstarter campaign last year to raise development funding for phase one of the project. Ciné Kenya recently received an update from Tajdin that the team have just begun the production financing phase as the second draft of the script has been completed.
