Conclusion: Will Social Media Change the Way We Work in 2030?
When it comes to looking into whether or not social media will change our overall lives, there’s no doubt about it...but will it change our work lives as drastically as it will our personal lives come 2030? The answer is YES.
With the changes in the job market in 2030 and the vast array of new jobs like a Sixth Sense Analyst or a Wearable Technology Therapist popping up in the year 2030 and beyond. More exciting jobs of 2030 can be found at https://ianmartin.com/11-trends-that-could-rock-your-work-world-by-2030/.
Another way that shows the impact of social media on our work lives in 2030 is the mental health effects that social media can have on an employee, just as much as the issue is prevalent in today’s society; what does 2030 hold for mental health and social media as listed in the article by BM Magazine.
The final way social media will have an impact on our day to day work lives in 2030 is by the way we can access online information and how, in 2030, we need to be more careful of how we organize and receive online information because the internet and social media will “change a lot from what we know now. In particular, it will open up new horizons for startups -- with geographical boundaries becoming less relevant, virtual nations creating new markets, and businesses influencing and engaging people who weren't previously within reach” (Atanacio, A. 2018, para. 17).

Mental Health, Social Media and Work : What Does 2030 Look Like
With the soar of social media platforms and use... what does 2030 have in store for us. As technology advances, many more jobs will be lost and gained. Many predict a decrease in jobs in retail, sales and receptionists. With a decrease in these types of jobs, social media will be the main platform to market for these companies. Social media will become the main platform for advertising business, while a large majority already use. It is a world wide platform that anyone can use and view, causing an increase in sales.
Many employees have stated that social media use at work helps them bond with coworkers. Using social media during work has been found to cause an increase in productivity due to employees using it to ask questions and help problem solve. In 2030, social media will possibly be allowed to be used freely at work to help solve problems and give the brain a break.
Mental Health and work is another topic that is foggy when it comes to the future. Will employers learn the importance of work.life balance? Will it stay the same? Will it become worse over time? With mental health having a stigma behind it, the world is slowly evolving. With many advancements and research being done, the future may hold a new approach to helping everyone.
What do you think 2030 will look like?

Mental Health, Social Media and Work : The Future of Work and Social Media
The future of social media is unknown but with the advancements in just the past couple years anything is possible. Many companies now use social media sites for advertising products, services and potential jobs. With social media becoming a huge part in everyone’s lives, its no surprise if in 2030, social media screening would be a necessity for future hires. With over 70% of current potential employers social media screening potential hires; the more information gathered, the better (Spencer, 2018). Many screen for online reputations, looking for anything that would effect the employee poorly. It is important to manage your online reputation for the future.

Mental Health, Social Media and Work : Does Social Media use at Work Affect Productivity
Decrease in productivity during work hours is any employers nightmare, even though 77% of people admit to using social media sites while at work (Jeanetta, 2017). Even though than half of the employers have admitted to blocking social media sites on work computers, research has shown that allowing people to use social media at work can actually increase productivity by at least 9% (Long, 2018). Employees use social media to stay in contact with work colleagues, ask questions they are unsure of, it helps problem solving and inter-work bonding (Long,2018).
If this is true, why do employers still block social media sites?

Mental Health, Social Media and Work : How does Mental Health Affect Work
With social media being linked to developing mental health issues, how does this affect other parts of your life. Mental Health requires a stable work/life balance in order to help relieve symptoms but with stress, how is this possible? Work is a major stresser to many people, poor mental health can cause a major strain on work performance. With 82% of employees stating they use social media at work, this can increase the chance of declining mental health (Bizzi, 2018). This can cause a work deficit as people are less confident in their abilities. Decreased concentration, fatigue, decreased ability to make sound decisions, lethargy and anxiety are just some of the symptoms that present themselves with mental illness (CMHA, 2014). Many individuals are unable to complete work tasks efficiently and on time. This may cause low self confidence as they feel they can no longer do their job due to these symptoms. This can cause a major strain on employees and employee's. Many employees refuse to ask for help in fear they may lose their jobs (Bizzi, 2018). With social media growing, in 2030, who knows what the workplace will look like. With an increase in social media and mental health issues, hopefully the stigma behind mental health will be resolved.

Online Information Accessibility: “Paradigm shift in the way information is produced, distributed and consumed” (European Strategy and Policy Analysis System, 2018, pg. 3)
The boom of the internet came in the mid 90’s and early 2000’s; now going into 2030 and shifting through such “proliferations of search algorithms” that have “completely overhauled the way data, information, science and opinions are assessed, evaluated, trusted and scrutinised” (ESPAS, 2018, pg. 3). The use of the internet has “created a paradox” that has “facilitated the diversification of the “online” media environment” (ESPAS, 2018, pg. 3). This has allowed users among social media to access information that otherwise wouldn’t be available to them offline according to the ESPAS. In 2030 businesses and workers will use the accessibility of information to reach their clients through the use of social media in ways that we can’t even imagine in today’s world because “people’s exposure to the news, civic information that is mediated through online social networks ...has grown (ESPAS, 2018, pg. 3). For example, companies like Google and Facebook account for “68 percent of online news” (ESPAS, 2018, pg. 18) that is accessed by users while “32 percent accessed directly via the original news publishers…” (ESPAS, 2018, pg. 3). The workers who work at the social media companies use algorithms that are “shown to be influencing the news and opinions that users are exposed to” (ESPAS, 2018, pg. 3). When we look to 2030 we can see a trend that the types of micro-targeting by these companies and they will affect the way journalists and people who work in news. Going into 2030 we will see “micro-targeting, combined with tailored news-feeds algorithms, can create parallel universes, with users’ perceptions of the real world becoming distorted through the lens of social media” (ESPAS, 2018, pg. 4).

Mental health, Social media and work: Does Social Media Affect Mental Health?
The ties between mental health and social media has been studied for many years. With social media being an amazing tool for communication, it can cause a strain on peoples mental health. According to a recent survey done by the Center of Mental Health and Addiction, the survey suggested that 86% of people in Ontario visit a social media site everyday, that is equivalent to 12.5 million people (Canadian Mental Health Association, 2016). Carbonell from Addiction Research and Theory states that social media use is capable of changing peoples moods, motivation, concentration and causes the individual to become dissociated from society. Social media can be an amazing tool for communication, but many users experience something different. Loneliness, isolation, depression, anxiety, hyperactivity and poor self esteem can cause a decline in ones mental health.
Cyber-bullying and unrealistic standards portrayed by these social media sites can cause a strain on a person. Going online everyday and being attacked by someone is not something anyone should have to experience. The constant fear and anxiety that would arise from this would cause long lasting effects. Sites like Instagram can decrease ones self esteem based on those who they follow. With the rise of Instagram models with highly edited and posed pictures make people feel awful about themselves. Seeing others with things you want can make those green with envy and can become obsessive to obtain what they want.

Online Information Accessibility: Education Is Essential
Education is important. Being educated of everything is essential to stay safe, healthy and stress free. In this case, being educated about social media is important in order to keep yourself and your company protected. It is stated “Ensure that your employees are educated about the potential harms of social media, so that their comments or posts do not damage the reputation of your company. If a provocative or inflammatory comment or post goes viral, the employee’s life becomes public along with their employer, even if the comment had nothing to do with the employer” (Dublin, 2019). This is important to know as those who are not involved can end up being involved. That being said, making sure you are educated is essential and making sure that the company provides training to educate those that do not know about social media is essential. A way to prevent causing issues for oneself and the company is by understanding and distinguishing personal posts and work related posts as explained in the following quote. “This could be achieved by, for example, having a separate album on Facebook with work-related pictures, or using a hashtag on Twitter to determine post affiliation (#worklife, #officeshenanigans, #Ilovemyjob, etc). It’s one thing to post a picture of you having a margarita on the beach in Bora Bora and another thing to post about having a margarita in the office”(Dublin, 2019). Making sure to separate work life and personal life is essential to having a successful work life.

Online Information Accessibility: Posts About The Company
Posting on social media can be beneficial for the employer and employee too, it's not only negatives that come out from posting posts. If we say that in 2030 information will be easily accessible, why not use that as a benefit? That being said, using the idea of information being accessible as a way to advertise one's company would be ideal. This would be done by talking about the company on social media, tagging them so that when others see it, they know of the company and what the company brings to the table. It is stated “allow your employees to post about company culture, team mates, etc. in appropriate photographs or status updates. Building a community on social media is hard to do. However, if your employees are supporting the company by posting about company culture, the positive effects of this could improve recruitment results and overall employee happiness in the workplace, making you an employer of choice” (Dublin, 2019). This shows that there is a benefit to posting the posts about your company while being mindful of other employees that are apart of the post through pictures or names.

Online Information Accessibility: Watch What You Post
The internet is made to communicate thoughts and ideas to people all around. That being said, sometimes people make mistakes in communicating the wrong message. This means that they might end up hurting someone for ruining a reputation whether that be theres or the companies. Based on workplace, posts should be thought out and inclusive as the company's reputation would be dependant on those posts. Companies should “be consistent with the business’s marketing and public relations practices and objectives. Employees should be especially cautious about revealing confidential or proprietary information or engaging in discussions that could tarnish their reputation or that of your company” ("Managing social media in the workplace: 9 tips", 2019). That being said, being very mindful is essential for the success of the business. In 2030, the workplace and lifestyle will be completely different. That being said, the web will be all around us, we will have access to our social media accounts everywhere. That means that posting things that are not appropriate for our work reputation is more likely than it is right now as all the information will be easy to access causing issues for the company. Employers will have to stay cautious and watch what they post.

Mental health, Social media and work: the effects.
Social media and social technology have greatly advanced within the last decade to the point where “we were unable to predict how it would impact our mental health and relationships with others” (Harrison, C., 2019, para. 2), especially at work. When it comes to 2030 and with “research just starting to catch up” (Harrison, C., 2019, para. 2) we need to really think/evaluate about how social media is tied into our work and how it will affect our mental health in 2030. Studies suggest that the negative impacts of social media at work will eventually affect their overall mental health. For example “Recent research has found that frequent social media users are 2.7 times more likely to develop depression” (Harrison, C., 2019, para. 5). This statistic is quite frightening; now let’s move forward a decade to 2030 where it’s predicted by Harrison that by 2030 [as noted in the introduction] certain societies such as western societies will be at 100% capacity for social media users and with that comes more negative issues affect our mental health at work.
With social media on the rise it has been become a large “requirement for certain professions and higher education courses” (Harrison, C., 2019, para. 7). More and more people are using social media while at work and with the exposure to the “negative effects of social media, and frequent use becoming more normalised, the negative impact we are already seeing on mental health will most likely increase, as will the impact on the workforce of tomorrow” (Harrison, C., 2019, para. 7) in 2030 and beyond.

Online Information Accessibility: Internet As Our Lifestyle
By 2030 the internet will come to us instead of us going to the internet. It is stated “Right now, you are actively "going to" engage with the internet, but in the future, the internet will simply exist as part of everyday interactions. Just like the air you breathe, it will be a critical component of your life, but you won't necessarily recognize its presence. Also, while traditional devices like tablets will still exist, they will only make up a fraction of your internet usage” ("12 Entrepreneurs Predict: What Will the Internet Look Like in 2030?", 2019). This tells us how common the inetrent wll be used as it will be part of our every day routine. It will manage our everyday routine, it will be existent and it can’t not be there. This means that the online and offline life will merge and become one. That being said, everything we do will be online even when we don't purposely post it there as there will be technology all around us, letting us access our social media accounts and the web. “If technological trends run their course, we won't think in terms of "the internet" at all. We'll use screen and voice interfaces to access algorithmically curated information from human and machine sources. Interfaces will be layered on top of the physical world. Augmented reality, the internet of things, and abundant bandwidth will make the internet as we know it a quaint phase” ("12 Entrepreneurs Predict: What Will the Internet Look Like in 2030?", 2019). This is when the phase of the internet “being apart of our life” will start, where we will see how the world around us will change and how much everything will have easy and quick access to information. This will affect the workplace as the internet will be our every day routine and it will be so common that it will have access to our online and offline information. That being said the workplace will and can have access to this. This means that making sure our personal life is thought out and appropriate for work is essential.
