I never really considered myself a doughnut person until I discovered the @donutbar down the street. There is a similar shop like this about a mile away from where I live. I’ve known about it for two years now, but never bothered to go because I considered it too far of a walk and didn’t want to intentionally wake up early just for carbs and sugar. 😶 See, the one thing that these shops both have in common is that they are only open until they are sold out. 🍩 One day, a friend of mine decided to visit me in downtown to grab lunch. Turned out, it was still early enough to grab donuts. 😲 The shop was probably an hour away from closing, there was still a bit of a line outside the door, but we didn’t mind. The donuts were worth the wait! 🤤😋 Since then, I think about going there again and again. Somehow, the sense of urgency and fear of loss reminds me almost daily that I should at least walk by to see what their selection is. Knowing that I only have a “limited time” to get donuts has become more endearing then actually enjoying the donuts. I don’t actually walk by every day, but when I do get a chance, I get in line and come home with a bunch of donuts. 🤷🏻♀️ What are you doing in your business that keeps you top of mind? What makes them want to shop for something that they didn’t know that they want in the first place? What makes your customers motivated by the sense of urgency and fear of loss more than actually enjoying the product? And for the record, I did enjoy those donuts. 🍩😉 - 💚/Jen Amos (at Donut Bar)

I’ve heard plenty that ‘sales is a transfer of energy/enthusiasm/excitement’, etc. As someone that can take things quite literally, I have found this saying to be difficult to understand at times. Maybe you’re like me: you like to hold people accountable for what they SAY, yet, you STRUGGLE to put anything out there that isn’t near perfection. But sometimes - if not most times - we are NOT in control of how people interpret the perfect copy we worked so hard to write and put out there. Sometimes - if not most times - the act of DOING is enough. Rarely is it ever perfect, but you know what? Each of us is designed to serve a specific audience. And rather than trying to control the message, sometimes just the act of DOING will attract the right customer. 💚/ Jen Amos

Brands are like romantic partners, there’s a customer out there that’ll only feel complete with what you have to offer. Your brand may be the missing piece to what they need today. A customer is waiting to be complemented by you. Keep hustling, you’re just one exposure away to helping a life. 💚/@msjenamos

To my fellow entrepreneurs: You cannot help but reflect when you are nearing your five year anniversary with your business. It’s one thing to understand intellectually that there are ups and downs to running your own business. But it’s quite the character building experience to live through it. I think of all the clients I’ve worked with, all the clients that were happy with our services, all the clients that were unhappy. There was a point this year where I’ve actually considered putting an end to Social Turtles. But not today. Humans are ever evolving, thus, so are businesses. With everything we’ve gone through in the last couple years, I will say this: the reward is worth the risk. Don’t put a deadline on your success because you just might be 3 feet from gold. - @msjenamos 💚🐢

In the five years I've personally worked with clients on social media management, I've have found that NO ONE was ever consistent for a long period of time. - even myself! Rather than beating yourself over what may seem like out-of-reach expectations, set a timeframe for your consistency. For example, have a product that's launching in three weeks? Set a marketing plan for four weeks (to account for the leads that come in after that third week). And if you need to transfer your efforts to another social media platform for another timeframe, that's okay, too. - @msjenamos 💚🐢 #berealistic #smartgoals

As the years go on being a small business owner, you start to realize a couple of things. One being this: be unapologetic with who you already are. Or get help, seriously! The more at peace you are with yourself, that easier it is to look beyond your own problems and serve others. Double tap if you agree. 💚/ @msjenamos

“The best marketing doesn’t feel like marketing,” says Tom Fishburne of Marketoonist. If you have to force your audience to see the value in the content, or hard sell it, it won’t work. Build content around a takeaway for the audience. 💚🐢

#FacebookLive is by nature an engaging type medium if you allow it to be. One of the things I’ve noticed about it is that the people who interact live with me often start appearing in the comments section of other Facebook posts, blog posts and on Twitter in the days after a live interaction. I guess there’s something about having had a conversation with someone that triggers an ongoing engagement. - Darren Rowse from Problogger.com
