BSFC Southern Meet - Members and Guests Welcome

UPDATE: We will be raising money at the event for the local food bank, http://wimbledon.foodbank.org.uk/, through a raffle of prizes from Casual Co, Richmond Socks and others. 

We're very pleased to be able to support this fantastic cause and the incredible work they do.

We're pleased to announce our first Southern get together, in London town, the Wimbledon area to be precise. All members are very welcome to come along, plus guests and friends. 

Below is our guide to getting, and staying, there.

Where: The Provenance, 62 High Street, Colliers Wood, SW19 2BY (photo below)

When: Saturday 08 February 2014

Time: From 6:30/7:00 til late

Travel: Nearest tube - Colliers Wood on Northern Line. Unfortunately London Transport are shutting the line and running replacement buses. These will crawl in traffic during day - best route is via Wimbledon station and a bus or cab down the broadway, turn left at South Wimbledon tube and along the high street to Colliers Wood.

Buses from Wimbledon station stop outside the station and stop dead outside the pub - 15 minutes. All these go between station and pub... 57, 131 (runs until 3.30am), 219. Loads of black cabs outside Wimbledon Station if in a mob. Cost about a tenner.

Hotels:

5 min walk is Holiday Inn Express, Wimbledon South.

Also very close is the Antoinette Hotel, Wimbledon (bus & cab will pass this hotel between Wimbledon Station and the pub).

Travelodge in Balham is doable. Wimbledon Station - train to Clapham Junction, change, train to Balham takes 20 minutes (NB that doesn't include pub to Wimbledon station!). 

Bus (155 or 219) from outside pub to Travelodge 20 mins. 

Cab from pub to Travelodge Balham is about £15.

Beers:

Ales - 5 on. Local ales as well as Adnams, Harveys, Sharps, Darkstar and more. Plus lager and cider.

Wimbledon:

For those coming via Wimbledon - pub of choice is opposite the station The Prince Of Wales. Good ales, big, TV. 

Extras:

Nothing stays the same forever

When myself and Matt started this it was very much as a bit of a laugh between a couple of mates, we didn't even think about membership cards. Then a few friends showed an interest and things have gone from there really. I've been staggered by the level of interest, the volume of people who want to join is mental but brilliant.

Up until now we've sent out memberships free of charge, we were happy to do so. It's cost a few bob but it was fun. Happily, the number of people wanting to join has increased and increased beyond all expectation. So from now on we need to levy a charge. This will cover costs and make sure things are run more professionally. If you don't want to pay that is your prerogative, of course, I hope you understand the reasons why this has had to happen.

Anyone who has expressed an interest in membership prior to today, the 17 September 2013 will still receive their membership free of charge. We made a promise and will stick to it. Please note, there's a little bit of a backlog so it might take some time.

BSFC Party Conference Important Information

                                          Wrighty and I hope you're all looking forward to Saturday as much as we are, the first annual BSFC Party Conference is almost upon us! 

Here's some key information for those of you coming along, if you have any questions contact us by email at britishsockfetishcouncil@gmail.com.

Start time: From 6PM

Venue: Brandling Villa, Haddricks Mills Road, South Gosforth, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, NE3 1QL. @brandlingvilla

Music: Soul, deep funk, reggae, hip hop provided by @soultwinjeff & @stuartparish

Beer: Apart from 10 hand pulls and a range of other lagers and drinks the Brandling will be selling "BSFC Fine Apper Ale", a hoppy, light 3.5% booze created for us!

The Brandling does excellent food including gourmet burgers and pies, so you can get a good feed

There will be new BSFC stickers and key rings on sale

There will be three raffles taking place, to pay our DJ's and also one to support the http://www.checkemlads.com/ charity that @2narme does so much to support as he raises awareness of testicular cancer, having beaten the illness himself

Fantasy Football

Fresh from watching Newcastle United's STUNNING victory over Chelsea the BSFC Chairman @Cognoscentinovo ran into David Baddiel (@Baddiel), comedian and Chelsea fan. After a quick exchange of views and distraction of a train lunatic David was dead interested in the BSFC and agreed to this photo. His brother went a little further and showed us his socks. Our verdict? Must try harder. It was a pleasure, genuinely nice blokes and very complimentary about NUFC and gracious in defeat, cheers!

Three is the magic number

Want an exclusive and very rare BSFC mug? Well, one of these beauties can be yours providing you are a BSFC member.

Our Life President @Kev_Cockney has had five exceptional BSFC mugs made and there are three that need a home and this is your chance to get one.

We need to recoup the production, packaging and postage costs for the mugs so we've decided that if you want a mug you can bid for one.

What you need to do is send us an email to britishsockfetishcouncil@gmail.com that contains your bid by 22:00 on 22 April 2012. The minimum bid is £8. The three highest bids will be notified by email and via twitter if they have won. Simple. Please note each member can only win one mug.

Please note that there are only three mugs now so they are limited. We might get more done in the future but these are the first, there are no immediate plans to have any made. Just want you to know that before you bid.
