Project 4 Participation
I initially wanted to do something with my boyfriend, but due to timing and scheduling it didn't work out. SO I decided to do something with the next little thing I spend most of my time with which is my cat! I wanted to do a parody of couples yoga and do “cat yoga” but my cat was...not down...so instead I threw on some royalty free spa music and I just gave her her mid afternoon pets. She truly makes my world better and I’m so lucky to be able to have such a chill weird creature in my life. I love the idea of having animals participate in a performance piece. They make things so much more pure, silly, and interesting.
If you have any pets how would you envision them in an art piece?

Project #5 Open Work A Fucking Distraction (2021)
A Fucking Distraction (2021)
Artist Statement:
For my open work final performance, I wanted to incorporate my phone again. I decided to act out one of my biggest frustrations with the pandemic and consequently, working from home. I feel so incredibly distracted by my phone, once again! I wanted to show how frustrated I am with the distraction, so I taped it to the wall while I complete a full task, which was responding to applicant inquiries. With monotonous tasks I am even more easily distracted now. As my phone was on the wall, I was restraining it from myself, as is so hard for me to do as I work at home during the pandemic. I left it up for the whole task, until it was complete and recorded the whole thing. I did this as a final project for two reasons, I thought it showed my frustration and it was a way to physically take my distraction away from me, and I wanted to continue my theme with technology and the pandemic. I showed the before, process of taping the phone to the wall, and actually finishing the task in my performance, so I recorded the whole thing from my computer as I completed the work task. Once again, my biggest source of documentation was my phone which was something that I was not incorporating so I used my computer to record it. Luckily the way my home office is set up, I was able to show my taped up phone in the background the whole time which I thought was an effective viewpoint for my project. I honestly felt relieved and undistracted for the whole performance. This is something I should do more honestly as I work from home. Maybe it would help to have it wrapped in plastic wrap the whole day also, as I did in my previous project! The whole video is about 40 mins long, and I finished my task :)

Performance Artist 14 - Vanessa Beecroft
For my final performance artist post, I decided to write about Vanessa Beecroft. An Italian-born American multidisciplinary artist, Beecroft is mostly well known for her works of performance. The most critically acclaimed works have been described as “living-paintings”. Her work is a great example for examinations of the body as these large-scale performances often involve multiple female models. Thematically, she mostly works to criticize perceptions of gender and the feminine body.

Open Work Project 5
I wanted to do a project with clay because it already has such a performative aspect to it when you are molding and stretching it. In my mind, I think it would be really awesome for this to have participation involved. I’m imagining a gallery or studio, where people are walking in and out of (like First Friday on Santa Fe) and anyone who would want to can add a clay pancake. I think it would be really cool to see how high it would get. I also love the texture and folds it has. I also think it would be fun for the audience to see their work added to a larger piece.

Performance Artist of the Week 13
For week 13 I am discussing Victorine Müller. She is a Swiss artist who participates in performance art. Her art focuses on a dream like state, playing with light and textures. Victorine explores other worldly dimensions within her art and creates an environment for her audience that really engulfs them. Her main performance is creating a huge clear sculpture of usually an animal and standing in.

Muller is quoted when expressing her work saying “I’m interested in creating moments of sensitivity, moments when our defenses are down and we are open to new things. moments of powerful concentration. … I create zones, put forward pictures, show processes that touch the viewer, that invoke associations on various levels, transport people into a different state, so that things hidden may become visible, accessible, opening up possibilities – to demonstrate something that is not said and cannot be said, but that is‘.”
Her work is ethereal and whimsical, but also mysterious and strangely dark to me which is why I love it.

Project 3 Site Specific Situations
youtube
This semester has been hard, I am unmotivated and one artist block after the other...at a certain point in my life when I was younger and would get overstimulated, anxious, depressed I would go for walks. Thats one technique that I’ve carried with me through my adulthood. Anytime Im feeling insecure, lonely, stressed, I put on my headphones and go for a walk. It takes me out of my head, I stop thinking about if my favorite pair of pants fit me or why i haven’t been able to get out of bed for the past three days and instead it forces me to feel fresh air, look out at the different architecture and just be. This is a timelapse of a glimpse into an hour long walk I went on. I feel grateful to live in Cap Hill theres so many cool houses and it’s very walking friendly. It’s nice for me to get outside and get some exercise but it’s even better for me to just get out of my head.

Performance Artist of the Week 12
For this week im going to dive into Moriah Rose Pereira, or more commonly known by her artist name Poppy. Poppy is a performance artist, and singer who found fame through youtube. Her internet/”poppy” personality is described as alienesq, robotic, who makes commentary on pop culture and the internet world alike. It seems as though her style of music has changed throughout the years. Their videos have a pastel, cloudy look to it. It feels a little strange and creepy because of the juxtaposition of poppy being cutesy with the weird ominous confusing tone to the videos.

They practice culture jamming and distribute posters, billboards, and performance work. they wear masks because they believe that their message is more important that personal notoriety.

Part 1 to Material Agency. I will have part two up as soon as my wax is melted! I was/ am definitely confused about how this assignment was supposed to be completed but I used the materials that I had on hand. I decided that by adding the element of fire to my moldable clay, I would be taking away the accessibility of the material. From the looks of the candles currently, the outcome of my end sculpture will not go as planned.
