PET PLAY: non-sexual activities to do with your ⋆ CANINE ⋆
While I was going through the SFW pet play tag, I realized that it was all dedicated to littles and kittens and I thought to myself “😑😑😑”. So I decided to make a post about non-sexual and SFW activities you can do with your pup, wolf, fox, dog, etc. Please remember that even though canines are not as affectionate as kittens (although pups might be), they need attention as well.
Go for a walk in the woods/around the block
Practice learning different tricks (sit, lie down, fetch, etc.)
Grooming (hair brushing, nail painting, etc.)
Go swimming at the local pool/lake/ocean
Cuddling
Trying on gear
Playing with chew toys
Receiving treats for doing things correctly
Petting/scratching
Pouncing, jumping, rolling, etc. (foxes especially)
Chewing on beef jerky/roast to get those back molars working
Eating/drinking from a bowl
Wrestling with fellow canines/your owner
“Hunting” for a toy hidden by your owner
Taking photos in your gear/different poses
Playing outside with the hose (spraying your pet is super fun tbh)
Watching TV/a movie together
Playing dress up (pups especially)
Playing with their hair (tying it up, brushing it, etc.)
[ *please remember to be respectful when going out in public, as some people might not be prepared to see whatever it is you’re going to do. Remember that, even though it’s SFW, pet play is still considered a kink, so keep it PG while in the park, the pool, around the neighborhood, etc. ]

A Glossary of Publishing Terms: Vol 1.
Here’s the first volume in what will be an expanding glossary of publishing terminology. If you have any questions about any term defined in this list, feel free to let me know and I’ll create an expanded definition for you.
Acquisition: The process of a publisher buying the rights to a manuscript from an author or agent.
Agent: The person who represents an author’s work and interests, submits their manuscripts to editors for acquisition, and negotiates contracts.
ARC (Advanced Reader Copy)/Galley/Proof: A promotional copy of a novel distributed for marketing purposes before publication. ARCs are usually not-yet-finalized, paperback versions of the book, which may have: minor copy editing errors, missing dedication/acknowledgment pages, or no cover art. They’re distributed mainly to reviewers, librarians, booksellers, and other industry professionals, but also make appearances at various book/fan festivals.
Big Five: The biggest publishing houses: Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, Hachette, and Macmillan. These five houses publish and sell the majority of books you see in stores and have a lot of sway in the industry.
Draft: A specific version of your manuscript, used for describing the state your manuscript is currently in. You can have a current draft, a past draft, a first draft, a revised draft, a final draft, or a 38th draft.
Editor: The person at the publishing house who acquires and helps revise an author’s manuscript
Imprint: A publishing house within a publishing house, basically. An imprint is a division of a publishing house that tends to focus on a certain genre or style of book. A chart showing the imprints of the big five publishers.
Lead titles: The predetermined “bestsellers” on a season’s list, which get the most publicity and marketing for that season, and often receive the biggest advances.
Manuscript: Basically the best term for a book before it’s actually in print. When you carry your novel around in a binder or as a stack of pages, it’s a manuscript. When you carry your novel around bound in a pretty cover, it becomes a book.
Publisher: A company that acquires manuscripts and prepares them for sale
Query/-ing: n. the combination of a cover “query” letter and sample chapters of a manuscript to be submitted to literary agents in the hopes of acquiring representation; v. the process of submitting queries to literary agents
Revise and Resubmit (R&R): A response from an editor or agent in between an offer and a rejection, when they are interested in a book, but do not want to take it on in its current state. Agents and editors who request R&Rs will also often request first looks at the revised manuscripts as a professional courtesy in return for their editorial letters/guidance. R&Rs may result in an offer from an editor or agent, or they may result in a rejection.
Seasons: The publishing industry divides the year into three “seasons”: fall, winter, and spring/summer. For each season, publishers will produce catalogues showcasing the titles to be published in that calendar period. These seasons and catalogs can affect books’ publications. For example: titles may be pushed back in publication to fit a certain season (a novel about ghosts will generally be published in September, in the fall catalog where it is most salable). Titles may also not be acquired because there are already similar titles in certain catalogs, and the publishers may not want to publish competing books.
Starred Review: Trade reviews give “stars” to books of “exceptional merit.” Good reviews of upcoming publications are not always starred. Starred reviews can be influential when publishers are selling books to bookstores, libraries, and other institutions.
Submission (sub): The process of an agent sending a manuscript out to editors with a goal of acquisition.
The Slush Pile: Unsolicited manuscripts sent to 1) publishers without agents/requests from publishers, or 2) agents without requests (less common usage).
Trade Review: A review in a trade publication, ie. a publication meant for industry professionals instead of general consumers, such as Publishers Weekly.

Hey! Just before I ask, this is a totally amazing blog. Kudos to you for making it. So, I was wondering if you have any painting(s)/picture(s) references towards the following ethnicities and their clothing: (this is set during the 1800s ). A Prussian General, a Victorian Gentleman, a Victorian painter woman, a Greek male scholar, a Portuguese prince, and a Dutch prince. ( I was planning to make a story about these, and i need references, so that i could draw them. ) Help a friend out?
Well, thank you.
First things first, none of the categories you’ve defined here are “ethnicities”. They’re all jobs and nationalities, or jobs and time period, depending on what you mean by “Victorian.” I’m assuming that, since you’re asking me, you want to see people of color wearing these outfits before you draw them? That’s not really necessary. You can really just search for fashion references, then make the person in the outfit a person of color.
I’m guessing you’re making a comic or illustrated story, since you mention wanting visual references for drawing-there’s nothing stopping you from making a bazillion drawings of people of color wearing whatever historical costume you fancy them wearing. Sadly, some people seem to find it brain-breaking to envision a person who isn’t white wearing a dang cravat, so this blog is full of images of actual people (even religious and mythological subjects used models), so have at it if you need inspiration.
If you want to just browse around, you should check out the “1800s Week” tag here; that’s more if you just want general visual fashion references like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But to go bit by bit specifically, I’ll do what I can for ya.
1. Prussian General
This one’s not hard at all, you’ll find thousands of resources from a google image search, or you can check out what the Deutsches Historiches Museum has available.
Here’s Gustav Sabac El Cher, an Afro-Prussian military musician:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You might find Germany and the Black Diaspora: Points of Contact, 1250-1914, ed. Mischa Honeck, Martin Klimke, and Anne Kuhlmann useful for your research here.
For European generals of color in general (ha…), you might wanna check out Ivan Abramovich Gannibal (1735-1801):
Tumblr media
And Abram Petrovich Gannibal, his father, and incidentally the great grandfather of Alexandre Pushkin, whose unfinished novel Peter the Great’s Moor, is about his life as a military commander:
Tumblr media
And of course, Thomas-Alexandre Dumas Davy de la Pailleterie:
Tumblr media
2. Victorian Gentleman
This is also not very difficult. If you want specific names or regions to explore, and we take “Victorian” to mean “British”, here’s an interactive map of Black Londoners 1800-1900 you can check out, all people who actually lived and worked there. There’s Black Victorians/Black Victoriana by Gretchen Holbrook Gerzina; There’s also John Archer, the mayor of Battersea South London.
You also don’t get more “Victorian” than Queen Victoria’s actual secretary, Abdul Karim (called “the Munshi”):
Tumblr media
And then there’s always the unparalleled hotness that is a young Alexandre Dumas (yes, THE Alexandre Dumas!!):
Tumblr media
3. Victorian Painter Woman
Well, here’s Edmonia Lewis, an artist living & working in Europe during the time specified:
Tumblr media
A woman of Ojibwe, Haitian, and African-American heritage, she was accused of poisoning her female classmates with an aphrodisiac because she was gay, then a LOT of bad stuff happened, then some good stuff, then some WEIRD stuff, and somehow she ended up rich, single, and working in Rome until her death, sometime around 1911.
I wanna say there was evidence that this woman painted by Eugene Delacroix was a working artist in Paris as well:
Tumblr media
For more on art and artists, check out What Jane Saw, which is a recreation of an actual art exhibit Jane Austen attended in 1813, it’s pretty great.
Also Fanny Eaton:
Tumblr media
4. A Greek Scholar
Okay, for this one you’ve GOT to check out Christos the Athenian:
He was multilingual, an independent thinker, and had good knowledge of politics and diplomacy. He was a distinguished and much loved member of Athenean society, a favourite subject of many contemporary painters, sculptors, and poets. When the painter Gyzis came to Athens, Christos was a living legend and he painted him on many occasions between 1871-1875 other than the portrait:Head of an ArabOriental man with a musical instrumentOriental man smokingOriental man with fruitThe punishment of the chicken thief (first man on the right)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. A Portuguese Prince
You don’t really have to guess with this one; here’s Michael of Braganza (1802-1866), as Infante of Portugal in exile in Vienna:
Tumblr media
6. A Dutch Prince
Welp for that you’re gonna want either William II or III of the Netherlands and they basically all just look like this more or less:
Tumblr media
As you can see, once you get to princes there’s not “a Prince” it’s literally just “the prince at this time of this nation was this guy” type of thing. At least when it comes to Crown Princes and such, but you can go ahead and check out the families and the youngest sons and daughters and royal nephews or whatever and see who they were. It just depends on if you’re like, writing historical fiction and want to keep your facts straight or if you’re doing some kinda alternate-history or fantasy type deal in which case you can quite literally do whatever you want.

Fantasy Guide: Build-A-Critter
There are thousands of mythological creatures across every culture in the universe. We humans are capable of some wonderful creations, even if they don’t actually exist. So instead of borrowing from myth and real life, let’s have a go at creating some creatures of our own.
1. Components
I know its an animal not a car but it needs parts or components. Does your creature have legs? If so, how many? Eyes? Nose? Tail? Spinal fin?
Tumblr media
2. Wardrobe
Does it have fur or scales? Feathers? Be as outlandish as you please. Don’t be afraid to contradict science. Scientists claim that some dinosaurs had feathers. Shake up some science, go nuts.
Tumblr media
3. Diet
We all love food. Creatures really only need three things: air, food and water. What does your creature eat? If you are stuck, think about its teeth.
Pointy = meat.
Not-Pointy= plants.
Both= omnivore.
(Thank you Land Before Time for those helpful lessons as a kid)
Tumblr media
4. Habitat
No, not the nightclub. Where do these creatures live? In the trees? Underground? Under the sea? (Now the song is stuck in my head). Whatever your habitat, make sure your creature is suited. Apply the holy Darwin bible to this. Gills for water. Wings for sky. Simples.
Tumblr media
6. Name
Some mythical beings names are just bad ass: Kraken, Nightfury, Whispering Death, Gorgon, Winds of Winter. So exotic. You can name it anything. Even after a person like in Darren Shan, the descendants of Madam Octa are called Ba’ Shan’s spiders. Or even a mixed name like a duckaphant.
Tumblr media
7. It’s ALIVE!!!!
Sometimes it is hard to create from scratch. Don’t be afraid to borrow. Why not have a bird with a monkey’s tail and a lion’s face? Why not have a fish with legs? Be as unholy as you please. (Do not apply to real life. Please do not create unholy creatures. Unless you manage to mate a dragon and a unicorn, then send me one)
