First thing's first; a fashion merchandiser obviously has a good sense of style. She could easily see the next, hottest trends and her favorite activities probably involve arranging outfits, shopping for them and spending hours investigating blogs and magazines of fellow fashion lovers. In most cases, a fashion professional knows what people want and she makes certain to provide it to them in the best way possible.
When working in fashion, you will probably find yourself working in a department store, boutique or fashion house, and the like. Fashion merchandisers are one step ahead and they make sure that the store, boutique or fashion house is too. Not only does a fashion merchandiser have great fashion sense but they must be skilled in the areas of marketing and strategizing to increase product sales.
Must-have Skills in Fashion Merchandising
Presenting the product efficiently to the consumer is an important part of the field and requires the merchandiser to know the precise taste of the target group. Performing tasks like these require someone in fashion merchandising to have excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills. While working in fashion, you must be able to communicate not merely with suppliers and manufacturers to carry out efficient transactions but also with consumers through visual displays and fashionable store selections. It's essential to know what the latest trends are in order to find out what products will be sold, the amount they should be purchased and sold for and how much profit the business will bring in. A fashion merchandiser with a large fashion house or large clothing manufacturer will typically specialize in one area such as women's clothing, shoes, men's clothing, etc. At times, this career will require a fashion merchandiser to travel to meet with suppliers and manufacturers to execute transactions, have meetings and attend shows. Solely those with thick skin, strong organizational skills, excellent communication, and determination will be successful in this field.
Fashion Merchandising is One of The Top Fashion Jobs
Numerous fashion graduates anticipate to get their dream job as soon as possible; understand that this will probably not be the case. You can definitely find yourself working in retail for some time or still looking for jobs months after graduating. One thing to consider is the probability of internships. This is especially true if you are considering working for big companies and places where they don't hire externally. For example, if your dream is to work for Vogue, working hard to get one of their internships is a major step to get your foot in the door. Interning for fashion designers and public relations firms are also ways to get experience. Consider, however, that a majority of these internships are not paid. Is this something that you can afford to do? Be wise.

Fashion Yesterday and Today
Tumblr media
We are living in a world surrounded by numerous things that are either related to technology, the latest gadgets or the latest fashion. And Fashion today has made its significance felt in almost all sectors of life. Fashion can be termed into two groups: One group which follows fashion trends and adopts them and the other group who create fashion and style statements for the others to follow them. It can also be extended to another set of people who rarely have anything to do with fashion trends but yet follow their own style to create their own unique personality; adding one more style to the fashion world.
Fashion is not just about cosmetics and makeup or the hair-do. It is a sense of creating the charisma of looking good in anything you wear and this magic is created with the right kind of accessories going along with the footwear and the clothes, making up a pleasant picture to view. Many times, people who do not afford to buy expensive clothes look their best in their casual wear, just by presenting themselves in that manner of sophistication and creating an aura around them with the confidence of looking good.
There are myriad forms of fashion, and trends keep on changing with the seasons. From the early 60s and 70s to the present millennium, there has been an immense change in the forms, looks, and thoughts about fashion trends.
In India, much of fashion has been influenced by the Hindi Film Industry, popularly called Bollywood. The trends that have changed through time can be fairly seen in the movies made during the 60s and 70s and how they have evolved in various forms bringing about a style that can be followed by the general public. People have aped the west from very early times and this was no exception. The clothes made in the 60s and 70s were very much influenced by the western countries and given a traditional touch. The Bell Bottoms, scarves and the hairstyle were very much prevalent in those days as an icon of style. Later in the 80s and 90s, the Fashion world sizzled like never before. There was a craving by the people to look different, stylish and modern and this could be seen in their outlook towards their outfit, new styles of hair, makeup, accessories like purses, earrings, necklaces, matching footwear, etc.
People were conscious about each and every new thing that was marketed and they copied the styles from their Bollywood idols. Bollywood started as a platform for theatre artistes and went on to become a commercial entry to the youths and aspirants for a career in the film and fashion industry. This gave the youth of today to emphasize on the fashion world. Art and music have become an inseparable thing of the past and so it is deeply rooted in the present as well with more features and facilities.
Today fashion, art, music, designers, dance, etc all have a place in the industry and people can choose to take up anything related to this industry as their profession too. Art and music have long been implemented in the school co-curricular activities and the Higher colleges are now offering various courses for better professionalism in these areas. There are also various acting schools and the small screen i.e., the television has opened up avenues in bringing out the talent in young minds through numerous platforms of music and dance. This is the innovation of the millennium in creating jobs and work in the fashion industry. The trends that we see are brought about by the fashion houses that have regular seasons to showcase their invention, many of which are popularized in FTV, Zee Trendz and TLC channels. We can also get a glimpse of the stylish outfits through these shows that the models present. Today, Modelling is also one of the platforms for entry into the world of fashion.
In the yesteryears, fashion was constrained only to the actors in the film or those that were bold enough to carry themselves in the public that they were considered fashionable. Others just wooed them behind closed doors. Slowly when times began changing, we could see the women showing off their styles in the traditional saree with an embroidered blouse and a different neck style. Then we saw the saree being draped in various styles like the Bengali style or the Gujarati style etc. The women were liberating their choice of freedom and it could be seen in their appearances with a high heeled slipper or the handbag she carried or the way she held her saree or the hair and the makeup she wore. All these changes brought about the invention of churidhars and then the salwar kameez and finally, the fashion of dresses was out in the open. Women accepted to the fact that there was nothing wrong in looking good and the men, of course, loved to see the attractive side of women and fantasized about the idea over their spouses.
This change in the attitude of the public was very well taken by the fashionistas and a huge market was created to meet the demands of the public. Today fashion creates a new look with a distinct style for a particular person and keeps oneself updated with the latest trends seen in the market. This industry is popular for its glamour as well as the mixture of Indian tradition and culture put into the designer wear that the models showcase.
People love to experiment with different textures of materials used in the outfits and so the designers give them a wide collection of dresses using all kinds of clothes. There is the traditional Khadi and silk combination that is presently creating waves seen in both men's and women's wear. Then we have the embroidery work in zardozi, Swarovski studded tops and lehangas and multi stoned work in bridal collection sarees, etc. Then the most sought materials like cotton, polyester, chiffon, crush materials used in varied iconoclastic designs and styles.
Always there is a hope for the designers that the youth want a change in the fashion and are glad to keep up the trend with a fusion of Indian and western mix of fashionable wear. Also, the youth of today are very practical in their sense of styling for a particular occasion. Be it a party or for a marriage or a casual look, they want the best and they believe in looking the best. And to achieve this, people go one step ahead in ensuring that they have everything in their wardrobe for any kind of occasion.
Apart from the stylish clothes and fashion that are currently popular people want to try something that goes along with their outlook. So the market started towards the very own friend of a woman- The Hand Bag or the Purse. The Fresh look of a purse with magnificent colors and its stylish features like the chain handle or the jazzy zips with numerous pockets in different shapes attracted the public like never before. And with the increasing demand for the prices of branded purses, it became a must for every woman to complete her shopping. So did the other accessories line up by creating a place for themselves in the market? Just a few to quote, the earring and necklaces, the various Belts, hand bracelets and brooch, the stiletto and its wonderful embroidered, party wear slippers along with its brotherly high rugged shoes giving a perfect cowboy look, etc.
Fashion has always been a very interesting topic for all women and now the trend has even challenged the men to compete for a more appealing look for a remarkable future in the world of Fashion to make it a full-fledged acceptable thing for all genre of people.

They generally last up to a week allowing fashion designers, artists, and fashion houses to display their latest collection. It hallmarks the next seasons in things, that's why it is very important for buyers, media, celebrities and entertainment industry who take that fashion among the general public.
The most famous fashion weeks are held at Fashion Mecca Paris, Milan, London, and New York. Since the new millennium fashion weeks are held in different parts of the world to put the local fashion on the world map and making a packed fashion calendar throughout the year. A refreshing sense of national identity and pride has emerged from the achievements of the fashion sector - something that was otherwise traditionally been restricted to feats of sporting prowess, adding that its benefits go well beyond the fashion world (Emling 2006).
Fashion weeks are held several months in advance giving chance to designers, media, and buyers to preview the trend for the next season. Women Fashion Trends
Tumblr media
It has rightly been said by fashion gurus that the year 2010 is and will continue to be an interesting and exciting year for fashion. With the end of the global financial crisis and recession trend, an upheaval in the fashion world was seen at the beginning of the year and this is continuing. In all the fashion shows that have taken place so far, a new standard of fashion rise up is seen. The latest trends in women fashion 2010 have been inspired by yesteryear's classic styles with a dash of sex, skin, colors, embellishments and of course attitude and glamor. Let us see some of the latest women's fashion trends in 2010.
2010 Fashion Colors, Prints, and Patterns There is a mix of soft, delicate styles with a sporty look in the Spring/Summer of 2010. No doubt, you could trace a touch of past fashion but mixed with modern outlook in this season. The popular colors for the year are neutral shades, sober colors and also other colors like the blues, pinks, browns and surprisingly a color like neon green. An important aspect of women fashion trends in 2010 is that heavy patterns and prints, earthly tones teamed up with bold and outrageous designs are in this year. So there is nothing wrong or embarrassing to experiment with a neutral attire, team up with bright colored footwear like pumps and jewelry to bring some color to your look. Or get yourself a gorgeous dress with huge floral or other prints all over, and team it up with patterned handbags and stockings and hooped jewelry.
Fashion Trends 2010 in Women Fashion Wear While the last decade saw the fashion circuit being dominated by tight jeans, the women fashion wear trends in 2010 have seen the emergence of loose pants. So go for baggy jeans and throw on a loose Kurti or tunic this year. Wearing sporting attire is also a trend in 2010. So you can see in the fashion stores, designer jogging suits, and fashionable sweat pants. These two trends have clearly shown that fashion 2010 is more focused on comfort, rather than looks.
Hot lady's shorts in bright and vibrant colors have made their way in 2010. Colorful chunky jewelry and accessories and big glasses play a major role in adding glamor to your ensemble. Do not wear too short shorts so as to make yourself a fashion disaster. A sultry and sexy high dress is in for those who do not prefer to wear shorts. This particularly looks good on those who have well-toned legs and skin.
Full skirts are out in 2010 and this trend has been replaced bandage skirts. In fact, the fashion designers have concluded that the bandage skirt is the "it" piece of fashionable clothing for women for work or a night out. A fitted top gives the perfect slim figure look, accentuating the waistline. Mini skirts in neutral tones are also in this year.
Women fashion trend 2010 has also seen the casual fitted t-shirts paired with denim jeans looking good on women for that cool look. Denim jeans will never go out of fashion. There is a comeback of torn jeans teamed with a white t-shirt.
Business suits in the form of blazers and formal trousers are still in, giving importance to masculine gender dresses. This has now been extended to long length blazers with leggings or shorts, with beads and bangles for that feminine look. The knee-length capris, showing off a toned calf, is also seen among the younger lot in 2010. It is decent, cool and still looks hot.
Another fashion trend that is seen in 2010 is to be bold and beautiful with some revealing styles. Long, floor-length dresses are gone. In fact, women are willing to go sleeveless with strong lines to look sexy just by displaying enough cleavage, and a cut at the waist defining the curves rather than being covered by wearing a long dress. The revealing fabric is in fashion.
2010 Fashion Footwear & Accessories Fashion accessories trends in 2010 show the emergence of large accessories. Do not hesitate to wear large sized chains, striking studs, oversized chain bags, shimmering bracelets, big pendants, bold cuffs, and rings. Stilettos are out this year. Instead, flat shoes, pumps, tiny heel shoes, and boots with buckles and zippers are in.
Conclusion
Try out styles that look good on you. Fashion trends 2010 have shown a number of options for mixing and matching and coming up with the right style. It is necessary to be fashion conscious but not necessary to stick to them always. If you feel that a certain style is out of fashion, do not worry, fashion trends keep on changing and when an old style is back in fashion, you wear it at the right time. 2010 is a year of taking hold of the importance of being a woman and embracing womanhood's essence. The basic point of fashion is to be comfortable with what you are wearing.

Indian Fashion Industry
Tumblr media
Colorful fashion trends of India
With the end of the 20th century came the end of all hype which has created a more practical and pragmatic environment and has given a more stable picture of the fashion business. In the 50s, 60s, and 70s, the Indian fashion scenario wasn't exactly colorless. It was exciting, stylish and very graceful. There were no designers, models, star or fashion design labels that the country could show off. The value of a garment was judged by its style and fabric and not by who made it.
It was regarded as ever so chic and fashionable to approach any unfamiliar tailor, who could make a garment for a few rupees, providing the perfect fit, finish, and style. The high society lady, who wore it, was proud of getting a good bargain and for giving her name to the end result.
In the 60s, tight 'kurtas', 'churidars' and high coiffures were a trend among ladies. It was an era full of naughtiness and celebration in arts and music and cinema, manifested by liberation from restriction and acceptance of new types of materials such as plastic film and coated polyester fabric.
The 70s witnessed an increase in the export of traditional materials outside the country as well as within. Hence, international fashion arrived in India much before the MTV culture with bold colors, flower prints, and bell-bottoms. Synthetics turned trendy and the disco culture affected the fashion scenario.
It was in the early 80s when the first fashion store 'Ravissant' opened in Mumbai. At that time garments were retailed for a four-figure price tag. The '80s was the era of self-consciousness and American designers like Calvin Klein became popular. In India too, silhouettes became more masculine and the 'salwar kameez' was designed with shoulder pads.
With the evolution of designer stores in Mumbai, the elegant fashion design culture was a trend among Indians along with their heavy price tags. No doubt that a garment with a heavy price tag was at the bottom stage of fashion. But clients immediately transformed into the high fashion fold where they were convinced that that the word 'elegant fashion design culture' means, it had to have a higher price tag.
Garments were sold at unbelievable prices only because the designers had decided to get themselves noticed by making showy outfits and getting associated with the right shows, celebrities, and events.
Later, fashion shows shifted to competitive events each attempting to out-do the other in theme, guest list, and media coverage. For any newcomer, the fashion business was the number one professional art at that time.
In the '90s, the last decade of the millennium, a move towards the drastic pairing down returned with ethnic wears (Today, ethnic wear market in India is accounted to Rs. 9000 crores). This led to the decline and the recession, the push to sell at any cost and keep staying in the limelight. With heavy cut-throat competition and a sound awareness of the client, the inevitable occurred. The price tags, which had once reached a peak, began their downside journey.
At those times the downturn was not only being experienced in the price tags of the garments, but also in the business of fashion shows. More models, choreographers, make-up men, hairstylists, and designers streamed down into their business.
The fun and party time in the Indian fashion scenario had not ended with this but continued. It was a point, where it reached a certain steady level and from there, in the beginning of the 21st century, with new designers and models and some sensible designing; the fashion hype accelerated its speed.
Indian fashion industry spreads its wings globally
For the global fashion industry, India is a very big exporter of fabrics and accessories. All over the world, Indian ethnic designs and materials are considered as a significant facet for fashion houses and garment manufacturers. In fabrics, while sourcing for fashion wear, India also plays a vital role as one of the biggest players in the international fashion arena. India's strengths not only depend on its tradition, but also on its raw materials. World over, India is the third-largest producer of cotton, the second-largest producer of silk and the fifth largest producer of man-made fibers.
In the international market, the Indian garment and fabric industries have many fundamental aspects that are compliant, in terms of cost-effectiveness to produce, raw material, quick adjustment for selling, and a wide ranges of preference in the designs in the garments like with sequin, beadwork, aari or chicken embroidery, etc, as well as cheaper skilled workforce. India provides these fashion garments to the international fashion houses at competitive prices with shorter lead time and an effective monopoly in designs that covers elaborated hand embroidery - accepted world over.
India has always been considered as a default source in the embroidered garment segment, but the changes of rupee against dollar have further decreased the prices, thereby attracting buyers. So the international fashion houses walk away with customized stuff, and in the end crafted works are sold at very cheap rates.
As far as the market of fabrics is concerned, the ranges available in India can attract as well as confuse the buyer. A basic judgmental expectation in the choosing of fabrics is the present trend in the international market. Much of the production tasks take place in parts of the small town of Chapa in the Eastern state of Bihar, a name one would have never even heard of. Here fabric making is a family industry, the ranges, and quality of raw silks churned out here belie the crude production methods and equipment used- hussars, matka silks, phases, you name it and they can design it. Surat in Gujarat is the supplier of an amazing set of jacquards, moss crepes and georgette sheers - all fabrics utilized to make dazzling silhouettes demanded world over. Another Indian fabric design that has been specially designed for the fashion history is the "Madras check" originally utilized for the universal "Lungi" a simple lower body wrap worn in Southern India, this product has now traversed its way on to bandannas, blouses, home furnishings and almost anything one can think of.
Recently many designers have started using traditional Indian fabrics, designs, and cuts to enhance their fashion collections. Ethnic Indian designs with batik cravat, tie-and-dye or vegetable block print are 'in' not just in India but all across the world.
In India, folk embroidery is always associated with women. It is a way of their self-expression, and they make designs that depict their native culture, their religion, and their desires. Women embroider clothes for their personal use, and the people linked with the pastoral profession prepare embroidered animal decorations, decorative covers for horns and foreheads and the Rabaris of Kutch in Gujarat do some of the finest embroideries. Embroidered pieces are made during festivals and marriages, which are appliqué work called 'Dharaniya'. One of the significant styles of Saurashtra is 'Heer' embroidery, which has bold geometric designs, woven on silks. The Mutwa women of the Banni area of Kutch have a fascinating embroidery where they make fine embroidery works with designed motifs and mirrors in the size of pinheads, the Gracia jats use geometric designs on the yoke of long dresses. Moreover, the finest of quilts with appliqué work are also made in Kutch.
Garments embellishment with beadwork is another area where it in demand in the international market. Beads are used to prepare garlands and other accessories items like belts and bags and these patterns now available for haute couture evening wear too. According to a survey, in recent times Indian women have given up their traditional sari for western wears like t-shirts and shorts, as they feel more comfortable in skirts and trousers instead of saris and salwar kameez. It's been noted that women spend just $165 million on trousers and skirts against 1.74 billion dollars spent by men on trousers. With more women coming out to work, the (combined) branded trouser and skirts market has been increasing at a whopping 27 percent in sales terms. Women feel that Western clothing is more suitable, particularly when working or using public transportation. Many corporate offices are also in favor of their employees wearing Western wear.
In India, Western inspiration is increasing due to the influence of TV and films. Besides, shopping malls selling branded clothes have also mushroomed in India and are fascinating youngsters. Recently, designer wear is being promoted through store chains such as Shopper's Stop, Pantaloons, Westside, etc. Companies such as Raymond and TCNS have also set up their exclusive stores for designer wear such as Be: and W. The market of India fashion industry
Recently, a report stated that the Indian fashion industry can increase from its net worth of Rs 200 crore to Rs 1,000 crore in the next five to ten years. Currently, the worldwide designer wear market is amounted to $35 billion, with a 9 percent growth rate, with the Indian fashion industry creating hardly 0.1 percent of the international industry's net worth.
According to approximations, the total apparel market in India is calculated to be about Rs 20,000 crore. The branded apparel market's size is nearly one-fourth of this or Rs 5,000 crore. Designer wear, in turn, covers nearly about 0.2 percent of the branded apparel market.
At present, the largest sales turnover within the designer wear segment is about Rs25 crore, with other well-known names having fewer turnovers of Rs10-15 crore. In view of the prospects of the Indian fashion industry for growth, the figures are not very hopeful.
The figure of the fashion industry
o The organized market for designer apparel is about Rs 250 crore
o Designer wear calculates to less than 1 percent of the apparel market
o The global market for designer wear is 5 percent of the total apparel market
o The global market for designer wear industry is largely dependent on the small-scale sector
o Consumers for designer wear have a yearly household income of Rs 10 lakh-plus. There are 3 lakh such households developing at 40-45 percent
o The designer wear industry is projected to increase to Rs 1,000 crore by 2015.
o More than 81 percent of the population below 45 years of age is fashion conscious.
Many fashion designers and management experts foresee an average growth of about 10-12 percent for the Indian fashion industry in the coming years. Though, the growth rate could be more than 15 percent, if infrastructural and other logistical bottlenecks and drawbacks are overcome.
India needs more effort to overcome
However, despite the benefits available in India, there are also some disadvantages. India is not a remarkable player in the global market with reference to brands because of its inability to add value to products. This is observed by the fact that nearly 50 percent of its exports are apparel and made-ups where value addition is essential. Likewise, 75 percent of the domestic apparel market is commoditized and unbranded and very few Indian brands do survive in the foreign markets. Evidently, the Indian market has not made a strong stand and hence it is difficult to make Indian brands that can compete with global brands in India.
Another reason for the fashion industry's inadequate growth is the limited experience of the designers and the platform they are offered. The insignificance stalks from the reality that most of the young talent is hired by the bigger names to work in their studios, thus imprinting their work with the label of the big designers. Though performing individual presentation is not an alternative choice for most of the young talent, because of the limitation of finance, a beginner designer's name fails to come to the forefront. Another thing, with regards to the ramp, is what the designers offer is barely appropriate to be worn ordinarily. You'll see there's the dissimilarity between what is there on the ramp and what the Page Three crowd wears. Some belief at present the fashion is in, but the tendency hasn't changed much as it is the old ones coming back. We have had short kurtas, long kurtas, flowing skirts, etc. coming back into fashion with only a new variety of designs.
Many management consultants and professionals believe that the Indian fashion industry will be boosted if the newcomers are paid proper attention. What they require is more support so that their work gets due recognition. According to the consultants and professionals, there should be a panel of people who choose designers for showcasing according to their work and not their name or who they've worked for earlier, and hence selection would be purely based on quality. Besides this, the panel of judges should comprise of people from fashion schools rather than designers. It has been observed that the media-hype around the big designers and blatant commercialism has hindered business in the Indian fashion industry. No clear cut picture is provided about the feasibility of the products. Basically, it is only the famous names that are being talked of. What they offer is not quite daily-wear. The entire focal point of the industry is commercialism. The discussion is only regarding how much is sold and for what price and nothing about the designs or styles.
Efforts to develop global fashion brands
It needs innovative designers, a seamless supply chain, control over retail and distribution and concentration of quality while dealing with some image. While a few have accomplished something in the west covering Tommy Hilfiger, Gucci, Zara, Armani, Versace, Ralph Lauren, etc, India has not been capable to track on. A serious reason for India not being successful has been its isolation in the fashion system. Each stakeholder including designers, exporters, textile players, and retail chains needs to come together along with the government to make sure that the position of Indian fashion is strong in the coming years.
There are various agencies and industry associations that can support in brand-building practice. Many of these agencies require attractive resources and making a global image of Indian fashion rather than independently trying to promote particular brands or textile segments.
Efforts to create a strong global image
Large textiles players require more and more to target the market facing activities while developing an association with small-medium enterprise (SME) clusters. Such kind of networks would be a benefit to that which can focus on demand making and branding as well as for clusters that can focus on quality production.
Efforts to create value networks
After the entry of large retail chains like Wal-Mart, Gap, etc in India, Small scale manufacturers in India will find it very difficult to satisfy the demands of these international buyers if they continue to promote their products individually. Therefore, it is very important that value networks are created between large textile and apparel companies in India and small scale manufacturers, so that the marketing muscle of the leading players can be utilized for receiving large orders while the bigger players then assign the orders to the small-medium enterprises according to their past record of quality and service. For this to be put into practice, it will be vital to well-organize the information on small-medium enterprise clusters in a perfect manner so that supplier selection decisions are made according to the information in the long run, only the more efficient small-medium enterprise players survive and develop. Efforts to concentrate on designers and designs
Designers have a fundamental role to play in the future of the Indian fashion scenario. There should hence be an effective process for preparing these designers. This can be done by sponsoring exchange programs with international schools, increasing participation in the fashion capitals of the world, motivating and offering business incubation to new designers and rewarding efforts through proper design awards. Even in India, well-known designers are incapable to tap finances from well-organized resources, since a vital part of their assets are brands and design talent which are not measured in terms of money and hence it becomes difficult to judge the value. This has severely inhibited their development and capability to raise retail existence across the country and abroad. Likewise, there is no systematic approach of existence in the fashion capitals of the world like Paris, Milan and New York. Due to this, designers have to depend on their personal contacts and relationships for organizing fashion shows and making retail alliances. The French government, as well as the British government, helps designers of their particular countries appreciably in these areas as they understand that value creation through design is the only way to carry on in the competitive landscape of the global fashion industry. The Indian government and related agencies should also accept this aspect of textile, apparel and fashion industry sincerely if they need to see India on the global fashion map. Work in collaboration: designers-corporate efforts
Designers and many organizations can work globally through various models and with many working relationships. The Indian fashion industry has many views but only one such model, wherein a designer creates a retail venture with his/her own brand through organized retail chains. There are many other models according to brand ownership and division of operational activities.
Globally, many models of collaboration between designers and corporates are available. For example, Ralph Lauren has made an agreement with Jones Apparel for producing and retailing various Polo brands. Likewise, Armani had an agreement with Zegna for production, even while it was competing with them in the marketplace. There are many cases of designer brands being co-owned by the designers and corporates, Gucci-Alexander McQueen and Gucci-Stella McCartney being some of them.
In the end, many designer businesses have been obtained by corporates where designers play a major role in the design elements of the business, but the brand and the organization is owned completely by the corporate.
The current possession of Calvin Klein by Philips Van Heusen and earlier holdings of Hugo Boss and Valentino by Marzotto are some related examples in this segment. These examples strongly point out that not only designers find such relationships important for development, but also corporates find these attractive for rising their profitability and growth. Likewise deals in India could go a long way in developing the brand values of corporates and designers.
Developing clusters
Making common infrastructure for functioning such as design and sampling, affluent treatment, product testing, etc can help in increasing the capability of the clusters since noteworthy investments could be made by the cluster itself rather than any single player.
Well-managed databases can help in decreasing search costs and through data mining, the rating of players can be done so as to make the procurement process easier for buyers. Cooperative marketing programs at different clusters can also support players to grow up in the value chain by mixing their strengths within the cluster.
Cluster-based battle in the fashion industry is characterized by the Italian industry. The National Chamber for Italian Fashion, for example, supports the development of the fashion clusters at Milan and Florence in a well-organized manner. Indian industry can learn a lot from Italy because India has a similar cluster based scattered production base, but has been incapable to link it with design and branding capability.
If the above activities are successfully considered, India could have an extraordinary development in the fashion industry, which could increase from a negligible size to Rs 8,000 crore in the coming decade.
Conclusion
In the 50s, 60s, and 70s, the Indian fashion scenario was colorful and stylish, in the end of the 20th century, it was quite subdued and with the beginning of the 21st century, it has geared up and is still experiencing the growth with many spectrums of colors. Though this industry is growing at a very good pace, besides achieving a negligible share in the global market, still it needs to make severe efforts to stand amongst the international fashion market in various aspects.

Fashion Jobs and Fashion Career Advice
Tumblr media
Picking one out of many fashion jobs generally is an overwhelming challenge. There are several different opportunities in the fashion industry that you might not be sure which one is best for you. With the high demand for fashion jobs, you need to be sure of what it is that you want to do so you can get started on pursuing your dream in this competitive industry. Below you will find descriptions for several fashion jobs and, subsequently, be one step closer to establishing your career in the fashion industry.
1. Fashion Designer
Thanks to shows like Project Runway, there are many people whose curiosity has been rose towards the fashion industry, exclusively, fashion design. A career as a fashion designer seems extravagant and rewarding but it takes a whole lot of work. A fashion designer must be well-informed of the latest trends (and sometimes even be ahead of them) and have the creativity to conceptualize new designs. A fashion designer creates sketches, whether by hand or with computer-aided design (CAD) software, of their designs and must be familiar with fabrics and materials in order to create samples that show what the final product would look like. As a fashion designer, you can specialize in clothing design, footwear or accessories. Fashion jobs like that of a fashion designer are prolonged with grueling hours of intensive work and lots of traveling if you want to promote your designs. Fashion designers work under pressure to meet deadlines and make an impression on fashion buyers and other potential clients. As a fashion designer, you would need not only talent and creativity but also thick skin and dedication.
2. Fashion Merchandising
Fashion jobs in merchandising can be very challenging. A fashion merchandiser must know what consumers really want, how to present it to them, what they want to pay for it and how to lure them to purchase. A fashion merchandiser is not just an expert in fashion but must also have strong business, financial and advertising skills. As a fashion designer, you might find yourself creating budgets, tracking profits and losses, tracking inventory, developing marketing strategies and even putting together creative visual displays to draw in consumers. It's a career that entails many different roles but also has many opportunities to grow and advance in.
3. Fashion Buyer
Fashion buyers are among the most crucial people for brands and companies. They must have good communication skills, be aggressive, organized and driven. As a fashion buyer, you work hand in hand with designers, merchandisers, and other key people to select what pieces to present to consumers and ensure that best-sellers are continually available. Buyers must be mindful of both current and future trends so they can make the right choices of clothing, shoes, accessories, etc. to ensure high profits. Working with suppliers to negotiate prices suggests that a fashion buyer must have good interpersonal skills, be educated in market costs and also in consumer demands. Fashion buyers must be ready to work under pressure, travel and research and analyze in order to make practical decisions on what products to offer their target customer base.
4. Fashion Director
Fashion directors, also known as creative directors or fashion coordinators, are in charge of the image and look of a store, magazine or a fashion house. They are accountable for that first impression given when people look at ad campaigns, shoots, and even fashion films. A fashion director must make sure that the models, photographers, location and concepts characterize the store, brand, or magazine in the best and most genuine way. One of the most well known creative directors in the industry is Grace Coddington who, alongside Anna Wintour and other industry professionals, is a part of American Vogue. In the documentary "The September Issue" we are able to see Coddington showing us her best work and the steps she takes to produce the magnificent spreads in Vogue. Now, don't think it will be a snap landing one of these fashion jobs. Be prepared for long hours of work, creative stumps, frequent traveling, crazy deadlines, and being willing to go back to the drawing board time and time again. Remember, as a fashion director you are responsible for the image of a brand; you produce something that the whole world will see. People will base their opinions on what you present to them. As one of the top fashion jobs in the industry, the pressure is on!
Fashion Jobs - The List Goes On
5. Fashion Forecaster
Probably one of the highest-ranking careers in the fashion industry, fashion forecasters do just that, forecast future trends and styles. This is much more sophisticated than forecasting the weather. Not only does a fashion forecaster need to have in-depth knowledge of fashion but he or she must also be creative and surely have the skills necessary to research and analyze potential trends, colors, fabrics and patterns. Fashion forecasters seek inspiration in everything from movies, music, even science, and technology. Getting a position as a fashion forecaster is one of the most prestigious of all fashion jobs you could aspire to.
6. Fashion Stylist
A fashion stylist has the easy (or is it?) task of making someone look good. A stylist must be familiar with what colors, fabrics, and styles work best to flatter someone's shape while also knowing ways to accessorize and finish the perfect outfit. Fashion stylists are responsible for picking the best pieces for photoshoots, events, etc. and putting them together for the final product. A stylist's reputation lies in how good the client looks and, in the case of ad campaigns, whether or not the stylist can communicate the image and vision of a product. Don't be surprised if, as a fashion stylist, you find yourself traveling for motivation or shopping for clothing, or even spending a day (or a few) revamping a client's closet. Finding fashion jobs for stylists can be as uncomplicated as working as a personal shopper or styling photo shoots for websites or local magazines or newspapers.
7. Fashion Photographer
It's not just about knowing just how to take a good picture. Fashion photographers basically have two fields to be good in fashion and photography. The photography part consists of knowing what angles, lighting, etc. As far as fashion, photographers really need to be experts in that as well. A fashion photographer should always know what the best trends are, top designers, top fashion events and any other heavy hitter aspects of the industry. Fashion jobs in this field can consist of taking pictures for model portfolios, ad campaigns, and fashion shows. Fashion photographers are responsible for producing a shot that requires excellent technical skills and extensive fashion knowledge. For example, when a fashion photographer goes to shoot at a fashion show he or she must know exactly when to snap the shot of that model wearing the flowing dress. The picture must showcase how the fabric moves and flows instead of displaying a dress that falls limp and drags on the floor. A fashion photographer works hand in hand with stylists, makeup artists and models to ensure that the final product is efficient in sending a visual message.
8. Fashion Editor
Fashion editors supervise the direction of a fashion publication, website, and other media. They are in charge of editing a fashion writer's work, making suggestions, and researching the possibilities of future stories. Fashion writers must be aware of trends and classics to assure that coverage is provided for the target audience. A fashion editor works under the pressure of meeting deadlines, supervising writers, discovering features and fresh ideas all while staying current on the industry and scanning the levels of competition. Some of the qualities necessary for one of these fashion jobs are being organized, punctual, able to communicate verbally and have impeccable writing and journalistic skills. Being one of the most competitive fashion jobs in the industry, a fashion editor should be ready to put some hard work in and spend long nights brewing up excellent, creative content.
9. Fashion Writer
Being a fashion writer is not as easy as picking up a pen and paper (or laptop, tablet, etc.) but includes extensive amounts of research. Fashion writers must be current on their knowledge of fashion and creative when drumming up writing ideas. Of course, outstanding writing skills are a must and meeting deadlines are also fundamental in this career. Fashion writers can execute interviews, cover fashion events and supply reviews of products. You have a choice of working as a freelance writer, with television shows, websites, blogs, smaller publications like local magazines and newspapers or with major publications such as Vogue or Elle, among others. This is one of those fashion jobs where you can find many opportunities and can be fairly simple to get started.
10. Fashion PR (Fashion Public Relations)
Creating a good consumer opinion is of the utmost importance for this fashion job. Where advertising and marketing can create a consumer desire to purchase a certain fashion item, public relations handle the image in its relation to the public eye. Public opinion can gauge the success and longevity of a company. Out of all the fashion jobs mentioned, fashion pr is the piece that ties it all together.
Fashion Jobs that Require WORK!
Whatever one of these fashion jobs you determine to make your career, remember that in such a reasonably competitive industry it's important to put in a lot of hard work and to be determined. All employers look for something that makes their next hire special and capable of making their publication, line, show, or website shine amongst the rest. What is it that you have to offer that others don't have? How motivated are you? Tell us, which one of these fashion jobs appeal to you the most?

What Is Rothy’s?
Rothy’s is a new and upcoming shoe store that is marketed for the working women. These stylish shoes are made from entirely recyclable material and stand out for their sustainability. Rothy’s owned and the operated factory is located in Dongguan, China and sets the standard for sustainable, responsible manufacturing. Rothy believes that a beautiful, sustainable style is the way of the future. They believe strongly in building relationships with their customers and watching their customers engage with one another over shared experiences, values, and the love of the product.
What Are Rothy’s Made Out Of?
Rothy’s are made entirely out of plastic water bottles. Rothy’s has recognized that every minute, one million plastic water bottles are sold globally, and 91% of the world’s plastic does not get recycled. By knitting the uppers of their shoes from recycled plastic water bottles, Rothy’s diverts waste from landfills every day and lets their customers look great while doing it!
Rothy’s are also made out of other sustainable materials including Merino wool (harvested from an Australian farm and crafted at a sustainable Italian mill), Eco-friendly outsoles (one made with carbon-free rubber, and the other using luxe vegan leather), and recycled foam insoles (made with bio-based castor oil and recycled materials).
Why Do People Love Rothy’s?
Women and children love Rothy’s because of their large variety of styles and colors. They also adore this brand because of their incredible comfort. It is not often that people can find a shoe that embodies all fashion, style, and comfort in one.
Rothy’s are versatile and convenient. While they are made for comfort, you can still wear them to dress up events. These shoes can be dressed up or down depending on the outfit you choose to go with them. You can also select one of the various makes such as their Chelsea boot or they're Flat to complete the perfect look for the occasion.

What Size Should You Order In Rothy’s Shoes?
Rothy’s sustainable shoes are supposed to fit true to size. However, some customers prefer to size up in the pointed flat shoe because of the shape of the toe.
Rothy’s shoes do not have a break-in period. Meaning, you do not need to wear Rothy’s shoes for a significant amount of time in order for them to fit your foot perfectly. They should fit perfectly the first day you buy them, which is a part of their appeal. These shoes will also not stretch out like shoes of similar brands.
Rothy’s sneaker may begin to have some slight give when being worn inside. The sneaker also has enhanced comfort due to the addition of the midsole, which the other shoe styles do not have.
How Do You Care For The Shoes?
Rothy’s, unlike many other shoe brands, are completely machine washable. This is a huge draw to the shoe because it makes it easier to clean and keep clean! You must wash the shoes in cold water and remove the insoles before washing. Use mild detergent and let the shoes air dry after they are washed.
Rothy’s do not do well in the heat. This includes warm water, dryers, and outside heat (Do not put them outside to dry). This is when warping and shrinking occurs, and you are going to want to avoid both of those things in order to keep your shoes clean and pristine!
Can Your Family Wear Rothy’s?
While Rothy’s does not yet carry a men's collection, the kid's collection is essentially universal. The Rothy’s kids' collection is stylish, comfortable, and affordable for growing kids that are always on the go!
The colors of the kid's collection are extremely versatile. You can buy plain for the children who don’t enjoy bright colors. And for those who love to stand out and get crazy with their fashion, their endless options for bright colors, designs, and prints!

Holiday Fashion Trends To Copy
Tumblr media
Looking fashionable in winter is actually easier than you think. We all rely on our sweats and puffy coats help us survive the cold winter, but when it comes to the holidays we may want to dress up a bit. With so many fashion trends popping this winter, you’ll be able to stay warm, on-trend and festive for the holiday season.
Velvet Everything
Velvet is one of the most on-trend fabrics for the past few years, and thankful it hasn’t gone out of trend yet; because it is one of my absolute favorite trends. Velvet can dress up any look, a velvet top with jeans makes your entire outfit chic and dressed up while still being comfortable. Velvet dresses are perfect for Christmas dinner or date night out. And as an added bonus, velvet is a very warm fabric that will help you to stay warm even when it’s below zero. Adding a little accessory of a velvet belt or a velvet bow in your hair, not only is it practical but also will help you have a more put-together look. One of my most worn items during the holiday season is a black velvet skirt. It matches literally everything I own and makes my outfit stand out more than just a traditional black skirt. I also love the fact that it’s so soft and cozy.
Corduroy Comeback
Corduroy is making a serious comeback from the seventies and we cannot get enough. From overall corduroy dresses to matching corduroy skirts and jackets; we are seeing so many amazing fashion trends with this fabric. Corduroy is a thicker fabric so it’s ideal for winter when you want to stay warm and still look nice. It’s thicker than jeans and a bit nicer, but can also be dressed casually the way you would jeans. My favorite look has been corduroy overall dresses with a turtleneck underneath. It’s warm, cute and is a great transitional outfit between casual and dressy. Perfect for Thanksgiving dinner or a work meeting. Pair it with your warmest tights and boots and you have the perfect holiday fashion trend.
Sweater Weather
Let’s be honest, everyone’s favorite fashion trend in winter is sweaters. They are just the coziest look you could ever come by and they go with everything; jeans, dress pants, skirts, overtop of dresses. It keeps you warm but also looking very fashionable. I have a sweater in almost every color imaginable because it’s such a simple thing to throw on when running to the grocery to stay warm or catching a movie with a friend. Sweaters with boots are the easiest and most fashionable way to stay warm during winter. A red sweater with a bright red lip is a great way to be festive but also a quick and easy way to look nice. And sweaters come in so many different styles, cardigans, pullovers, chunky turtlenecks; the options are endless so stock up on a few of these so you stay cozy and cute this winter.
Blazer Boss
The other way to stay warm but look a bit more professional this winter is blazers. Layering up with a blazer gives you a business bitch look and I am absolutely here for it. It’s the easiest way to dress up jeans. It’s perfect for when you have to grab drinks right after work with friends. You can layer it with a long sleeve tee for extra warmth. These come in all kinds of fabrics and patterns and are one of the most versatile fashion pieces you can own. I am a firm believer that everyone can benefit from a good blazer. A plaid blazer with a matching skirt can be used for both the office and for going out to see the Nutcracker with your family. You will feel so chic and grown-up strutting in your blazer.
Patterned Tights
I’ll admit it, I actually love pantyhose. It may sound weird but I do. I love how dressy I feel in them, I love that they come so high up and I love how soft and stretchy they are. When your entire outfit is basically a dress and pantyhose, patterned tights can add a little more flair to what would be an otherwise boring outfit. I love a monochromatic black outfit with black polka dot tights, it adds just a little individuality without being over the top. And peaking out from under your boots, you’ll love the subtle look.
Suede Babe
Another beloved winter fabric that’s both warm and fashionable. Suede is probably the most popular of winter fabrics, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t own something that suede. From shoes to jackets, suede can be used on any clothing item. Suede skirts have been taking over college girls’ Instagrams by a storm, but even if you’re not a college girl, suede can still be your go-to fabric for winter fashion. Like velvet, it’s softer and you’ll love wearing it for comfort but you’ll also really like the fact that it is a nicer fabric to wear for your holiday gatherings. Suede loafers are an absolute must for me for winter, unlike a flat, it covers more of your foot and give more support but they are also a great transitional piece for any occasion.
Trendy Trench Coats
I am not talking about the taupe trench coats you find on detectives, I’m talking about long trench coats either in wool or another warm fabric that makes your outfit stand out. Coats can often take away from what would be a cute outfit, so why not have a cute coat to go along with it. One that hits right above the knees will ensure you stay warm but also shows off a little bit more of your outfit than a traditional full-length coat. These look so much nicer with your holiday dresses than a big puffy coat that swallows you and hides the rest of your outfit. Getting a black one is a safe bet to match more outfits, but opting for a bright pink or emerald green will make you stand out in the snow.
Over The Knee Boots
I’ll be honest, I didn’t like the one the knee boot trend at first, I’m 5’2, can you blame me? But I saw how amazing these looked for holiday fashion and knew I had to try it. And I was not disappointed. Over the knee boots are everyone’s friend, regardless of height. They actually made me look taller because it elongated my legs. It was also an added layer aka more warmth. I loved that I could put this on over skinny jeans, pantyhose or even just bare legs and be warm regardless. It’s perfect for the looks that you don’t want to put pantyhose on because it still gives you some warmth without that layer when it just doesn’t look right with pantyhose. These come in heeled options for if you wanna dress it up even more or flat options for being able to practically walk across the layers of ice on the sidewalk.
Snuggly Sherpa
Sherpa has become popular in fashion thanks to the rising trend in casual clothing. Stores that typically sell more sports or loungewear also sell sherpa because it’s just that versatile. Wearing sherpa is basically like wearing a blanket, but not looking like you just rolled out of bed. It looks better with sweats than your trench coat does but can also be worn with jeans for a semi-casual look.
Faux Fur
Let’s be real, faux fur is way more practical than real fur. Faux fur is less expensive and is better for our environment and the wellbeing of all animals. Faux fur can be just as warm as real fur and you will feel just as chic as if you were wearing real fur but, less guilty than if you were wearing real fur. You can pair this with a dress or black pants and a sweater. Top this look off with heeled booties and you’ll think you’re a model walking a runway, not the snowy streets of your hometown.
