i actually need to know people's thoughts on this because at least in my experience the answer to this has drastically changed since i was on tumblr in the 2010s and its driving me fucking insane

*im talking about fandom takes specifically. not someone being horribly evil about a real-life issue or or blatantly factually incorrect. literally just harmless fandom disagreements or differing interpretations of a text/character/etc.

It seems a couple of years ago a group began using the VIZ localization of Hanadan to translate the colored manga into English

How do I know this, you ask. Well if you look under the cut I'll show you.

You see the group instead of cleaning the raws and getting a typesetter ended up cuting and copying parts of the VIZ manga and pasting them onto the colored pages as seen above. I wish they had retouched the raws instead of copy and pasting. However I know that localization teams have enough issues with monochromatic manga as it is.

While for the post part their method is alright. It doesn't exactly work well with every panel, as you can by the secreenshot above, since the speech bubble are differently shaped between the two versions.

Still it's possible to do a colored manga localization without copying and pasting. Take this example of the colored Sailor Moon manga. It doesn't look like the copied and pasted here. Then again Sailor Moon does have a bigger fanbase.

They only did the first few chapters, which is a shame, because the some of the colored pages like the one above are lovely. Like this one above. I wish Viz would release this version. I mean if they releasing new versions of Red River and Nana, this could be a cool release as well.

I think mostly what young fandom types (and I guess younger people in general) who are very very invested in the idea that “20 is still basically a minor” need to understand is that the feeling of “I’m just a child pretending to be an adult, and everyone else around me is a REAL adult” is DEEPLY universal (and won’t stop, ever, by the way, sorry!) and also is not, like, praxis.

Believe me, I get it, but the self-infantilization needs to stop, especially when you’re trying to engage in conversations about actual children and the harms they can face. Yes, it is scary to wake up and realize you’re 22 and you still feel like you’re 15, but it happens to all of us. You’re an adult. You have to deal with it.
