【展覧会のご案内/ Notice of Exhibition】

現代美術 艸居は、5月14日（土）より6月11日（土）まで艸居メインギャラリーにて鯨虎（いさなこ）じょう個展「Amulet」を開催致します。

土や釉薬などの素材と真摯に向き合い、実験的なコミュニケーションを重ねて生み出される鯨虎の作品は、国内外の様々な展覧会に出展され、近年活躍の幅を広げています。艸居において初の個展となる本展覧会では新作の陶作品34点を展示致します。

今回の作品のモチーフとなっているのは「お守り」です。新型コロナウイルスの世界的な流行に伴って始まったこの新しい日常の中で、人々は何を心の支えとしているのか。それは「癒し」であり、人によって異なる形をしていると鯨虎は考えます。粘土と釉薬を熱と重力に委ねて生まれる形や優しい色合いは、作品タイトルとなっている「リラックスしたかたち」にもつながり、作家が制作前にイメージしたという「ぐでん」「ぺちょん」といった言葉にも通じます。素材を実験し、個性を発見してそれを引き出すことで作り出される鯨虎の作品を通じ、皆様がそれぞれに心に抱く「お守り」について思いを馳せていただければ幸いです。

Sokyo Gallery is pleased to present Joe Isanako's solo show Amulet at our main gallery, from Saturday, May 14 to Saturday, June 11, 2022.

Isanako's works are created through experimental and sincere communication with materials such as clay and glaze. Her works have been exhibited in various domestic and international exhibitions, and her activities have been expanding in recent years. This exhibition, her first solo show at Sokyo, will feature a total of 34 new ceramic works.

The motif of her works is “amulet.” In this new daily existence that emerged after the global outbreak of COVID-19, what do people turn to for emotional support? Isanako believes that it is "healing," and that it takes different forms for different people. The shapes and gentle colors created by allowing the clay and glaze to heat and be pulled by gravity are connected to the "Relaxed form," which is the title of the work. They also remind us of the Japanese onomatopoeia, "guden" and "pechon," which evoke the relaxed appearance that she imagined before creating the pieces. We hope that through the works of Isanako, which are created by experimenting, discovering and bringing out the individuality of each material, you will ponder about the "amulets" that each of you hold in your heart.

立体造形、絵画、映像等の分野で顕著な業績をおさめている岐阜ゆかりの作家に岐阜県から送られる賞です。

We are happy to inform that Kimiyo Mishima (Contemporary art) and Harumi Nakashima (Ceramic) won the Enku Prize at the 11th Enku Grand Prix.

The award is given by Gifu Prefecture to artists based in Gifu who have made outstanding achievements in the fields of three-dimensional art, painting, and video.

三島喜美代が第63回毎日芸術賞を受賞しました。また、長年にわたり現代芸術家として活躍し、日本の芸術文化の振興に多大な貢献をしたとして令和3年度文化庁長官表彰を受けました。

Kimiyo Mishima won the 63rd Mainichi Art Prize. She was also commended by the Director-General of the Agency for Cultural Affairs for her many years of active work as a contemporary artist and contributing greatly to the promotion of Japanese art and culture.

現代美術 艸居は、1月8日（土）より2月26日（土）まで艸居メインギャラリーにて日本初個展「エリック・セリテラ：Shared Spaces」を開催致します。

セリテラのだまし絵のような陶作品は、素材の性質とそこに込められたメッセージの両方によって、見る者に挑戦します。その作品はメトロポリタン美術館やスミソニアンアメリカ美術館、カーネギー美術館など多くの美術館に収蔵されています。

「アートとは繋がり、共鳴、反響の場としての役割を果たすものであり、私の手によって語られる私の潜在意識の物語となるのです」と語るセリテラ。手びねりによる超現実的な造形から作家の自然観や哲学を感じ取っていただければ幸いです。

Sokyo Gallery is pleased to present Eric Serritella: Shared Spaces, his first solo exhibition in Japan at our main gallery from Saturday, January 8 to Saturday, February 26.

Serritella's trompe l'oeil ceramic sculptures challenge the viewer with both the nature of the material and the messages within. His works are in the collections of many museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the Carnegie Museum of Art.

The artist says "Art serves as an arena for connection, resonance, and reverberation and becomes the story of my subconscious as told by my hands." We hope that you will be able to enjoy the artist's view of nature and philosophy through his hyper-realistic hand-beaded forms.

【展覧会のご案内/ Notice of Exhibition at SOKYO ATSUMI】

SOKYO ATSUMIは、12月15日（水）より2022年2月5日（土）までジョン���メイソン展を開催致します。2017年に現代美術艸居（京都）で開催された初個展「ジョン・メイソン：A SURVEY」に引き続き、日本では2度目の個展となります。

本展では1984年に制作された＜Triangle＞をはじめ、最晩年作である2016年の＜Folded Cross, Jadeite＞までの貴重な作品13点を展示し、近年再び大きな注目を集めるメイソンの土における革新と実験の証を展示致します。この機会に是非ご高覧いただけますと幸いです。

SOKYO ATSUMI is pleased to announce to present John Mason's second solo exhibition in Japan, following his inaugural solo exhibition "John Mason: A SURVEY" held at Sokyo Gallery, Kyoto in 2017, from Wednesday, December 15 to Saturday, February 5, 2022.

This exhibition will feature 13 valuable works, from "Triangle" (1984) to "Folded Cross, Jadeite" (2016), his last work, displaying the innovation and experimentation in Mason's clay that has attracted much attention in recent years.

現代美術 艸居は、12月4日（土）より2022年1月22日（土）まで艸居アネックスにて梅津庸一と浜名一憲の二人展「6つの壺とボトルメールが浮かぶ部屋」を開催致します。

2人の作品に共通点を見出すのは難しいかもしれませんが、2人の姿勢や態度には重なるところがあります。浜名に作品を託された梅津が浜名作品と自作とが外的な「文脈」ではなく、作品同士が対話をできるシチュエーションを準備しました。梅津によれば、それは「インスタレーション」でもなければ「キュレーション」でもないという本展を、是非ご高覧ください。

Sokyo Gallery is pleased to announce to hold Yoichi Umetsu and Kazunori Hamana's two-person show "A Room with Six Floating Pots and Message Bottles" at Sokyo Annex from Saturday, December 4 to Saturday, January 22, 2022.

It may be difficult to find common ground in their works, but their attitudes and thoughts overlap. Umetsu, who was entrusted with his work by Hamana, prepared a situation in which Hamana's works and his own works can talk to each other, not in an external "context." According to Umetsu, it is not an installation or a curation. Please take a look at this exhibition.

【展覧会のご案内/ Notice of Exhibition at Sokyo Gallery】

現代美術 艸居は、11月13日（土）より12月18日（土）まで艸居メインギャラリーにて「青木千絵　融体化する身体」を開催致します。

青木は大学時代に自身が吸い込まれるかのような感覚に陥った漆の艶に魅了され、漆での創作活動を始めました。ミステリアスな漆黒を普遍的な身体と融合させることにより、孤独や葛藤という人間の内面に渦巻く複雑な感情世界を表現してきました。具象と抽象が組み合わされ、漆の奥深い艶が特徴的な作品は、人間表現の追求という青木の創作姿勢を明示してくれます。艸居での二度目の個展となる今展では、新作4点とドローイングを展示いたします。

BODYシリーズの制作を始めて17年が経つ青木。近年では抽象部分と身体部分が融体化し、周囲の環境を吸収しながら見る人との一体感を得るような存在へと変化してきたと語ります。大きな変化の中で多様化がますます進む現代社会において、自分自身を見失いそうになりながらも、自分の心と向き合って生きていく姿を、漆という美しく堅牢な素材を用いて表現しています。融体化という青木における新たな展開と、乾漆ならではの優しい柔らかな表現をこの機会に是非ご高覧いただけますと幸いです。

Sokyo Gallery is pleased to announce to hold "Chie Aoki  Melting Bodies" at our main gallery from Saturday, November 13 to Saturday, December 18.

Aoki first became fascinated by the luster of lacquer as a university student, which made her feel as if she was being sucked into it. By fusing the mysterious blackness of lacquer with the universal body, Aoki expresses the complex emotional world of loneliness and conflict that swirls inside human beings. Her works, which combine the concrete and the abstract, and aesthetically display the deep and glossy characteristics of lacquer, clearly show the artist’s creative attitude of pursuing human expression. In this exhibition, which is her second solo show at Sokyo Gallery, Aoki will show four new works and drawings.

It has been 17 years since Aoki started to create the BODY series. In recent years, she says, abstract parts and concrete body parts have been fused together, and her works absorb the surrounding environment to create a sense of unity with the viewer. Using the beautiful and robust material of lacquer, Aoki expresses the way she lives her life by confronting her own mind while almost losing sight of herself in today's society, which is undergoing great changes and becoming increasingly diversified. We hope that you will take this opportunity to see Aoki's new development of fused elements and the gentle softness of dry lacquer.
