Despite distance, the Fade would always carry her voice to him. Between the spirits and the twisting terrain, he heard her, clear as a bell ringing the time. 

And he moved, silent as a shadow and quick as a river turning a bend. His shape-- that of a massive, black wolf, five eyes glowing in the murkiness of the dream, would soon eclipse all light and loom.

A low growl, deep and near feral, reverberated through him and through the ground around them, and the monster she faced would flee. Its shape wobbled and fell away as it did, revealing the demon that dared play such a cruel trick on the Dread Wolf’s favored. 

I am here, Aria, peace. 

His voice echoed as his growl had, everywhere around and intimate as if he were whispering in her ear. The house sized wolf laid down, curling around her, all five eyes open and trained on her. 

There is nothing more to fear.

Her ghosts only ever found her alone.

There was never any other tainted thing around to set her blood surging, no battle to distract her from the freefall. Even in a dream he pulled at her, the memory of his call drawing ever closer. Tamlen always found her like this. He could always cut her down so readily.

She had never been able to reject it before, to stand with her back to the remains of a former life and refuse it. All her nightmares had no right to do this, for all else they might call back from the Blight. She did not have to hear his mockery of a voice, walk into the knife her memories always became in the Fade. She need never walk alone again.

If the wolf could help her face darkspawn, he could show her a path out of this, too. It was his name that drowned out the old familiar endearment – Lethallan could not compare to Pride. 

Not yet. There was, admittedly, still time for Solas to force her hand as well. 

Speaking his name all the same, she waited, tense in the loneliness between she and the spectral shriek.

For one who claims to like sleep and enjoys dreaming as much as Solas, he stayed up quite late, quite often. 

Such as today, where he was up bright and early-- a rare and near frightful sight, to say the least, considering it usually took a whole parade to rouse the elf. 

But suffice it to say, he hadn’t slept. Not at all. 

The look on his face, and the slight, unsteady wobbling he did in his seat, said enough.
