SHORT STORIES, my favorite kind of poetry ( meme ).
SIX WORDS .
❝ i heard you were doing good. ❞ ❝ you don’t grow your horns overnight. ❞ ❝ i promise, it gets better eventually. ❞ ❝ & we never talked after that. ❞ ❝ am i really, truly, that unlovable? ❞ ❝ don’t talk like you’re coming back. ❞ ❝ my most dangerous habit is trusting. ❞ ❝ we’re made of stars & stories. ❞ ❝ you didn’t have to do that. ❞ ❝ everything is poetry when you’re drunk. ❞ ❝ did i mean anything to you? ❞ ❝ real feelings don’t just go away. ❞ ❝ you came & changed the weather. ❞ ❝ when can you just be mine? ❞ ❝ there was no love, only lust. ❞ ❝ darling, stop wishing on dead stars. ❞ ❝ art is another form of screaming. ❞ ❝ silence is the most painful goodbye. ❞ ❝ what the fuck did you do? ❞ ❝ i’m drunk, dizzy & missing you. ❞ ❝ kiss me like you’re losing me. ❞ ❝ i don’t feel like smiling today. ❞ ❝ not all good people are innocent. ❞ ❝ we’re a disaster in the making. ❞ ❝ some things are better left unsaid. ❞ ❝ we really should’ve talked about it. ❞ ❝ i’m so glad i met you. ❞ ❝ i wish i knew you earlier. ❞ ❝ i fucked (pronoun/name) to our song. ❞ ❝ i dreamed of you this night. ❞
TEN WORDS .
❝ you saw the messed up parts of me, & stayed. ❞ ❝ all i’ve ever wanted was for someone to save me. ❞ ❝ since you left, i have no one to talk to. ❞ ❝ i apologize for the nights in which i cannot breathe. ❞ ❝ everytime i look at you, i want to kiss you. ❞ ❝ we said no strings attached but now we’re in knots. ❞ ❝ there’s a difference between missing someone & missing having someone. ❞ ❝ for which f are you drinking? fuck, forget, or fun? ❞ ❝ my biggest mistake was thinking i could live without (pronoun/name). ❞ ❝ whenever (name/pronoun) rose to kiss me, i fell even more. ❞ ❝ i wish that ‘goodnight’ was followed by ‘i love you’. ❞ ❝ let’s smoke a pack of mentholds & talk about love. ❞ ❝ your deep, sleepy voice makes me feel like i’m okay. ❞ ❝ i read both of our horoscopes looking for an answer ❞ ❝ reality is the absolute last place i want to be. ❞ ❝ i didn’t expect that drunk kiss could mean this much. ❞ ❝ all i need is a late night drive with you. ❞ ❝ feeling pain is nowhere near as terrifying as feeling nothing. ❞ ❝ your eyes are the color of summer fading into autumn. ❞ ❝ you are the warmest home i will ever, ever find. ❞ ❝ the world is less scary when i am with you. ❞ ❝ i still can’t tell which of us was the victim. ❞ ❝ i just need an excuse to hang out with you. ❞ ❝ your expectations for me have been set way too high. ❞ ❝ i don’t want to feel this way about anyone else. ❞

[ that’s what he thought ] Soft as a pillow? Do you intend to fatten me up? [ despite his words, he follows along smoothly ] I intend to stay limber, should there be an emergency. [ smiles ] So. What have you been up to this past year? [ how long has it been? ah .. ]
Ah! You still have a brain intact, I am glad. Si, I am going to fatten you up. [ he hums a little whilst walking ] [ mmm, the past year? had it been that long, or longer? he didn’t know; his time upon one ship to another had been nothing but a way to past time without realizing that much time had been passing by ]
What I have been up to is not important; what have you been up to, huh? It has been a long time. I didn’t know when I’d see you again.
Ah, so you made it onto the ship after all? [ .nvn ] [ maybe they haven't seen each other in a whiLE SMH?!?? or he didnt know manuel was working there lmaO ] [ u can respond in script or lit idc ]
“Manuel.” Odd; he hadn’t even the slightest thought that he’d ever see his brother upon this ship. But nonetheless, it brought a genuine smile upon his features. When was the last time he had seen him? God. “I didn’t think you’d be here; were you offered a job on here, like me, or just snuck your way in?”

Lovino jumped lightly at the sudden gesture; would someone see them like this? He made a worried look, before leaning over to reply quietly.
“A quick look? Fuck that.” Lovino scoffed, “What fun is a peek in and then bolting out? Ditching the staff when they catch you is the best part.” A grin, and he shoved Antonio lightly with his elbow. “Are you backing out, chicken boy?”
“I am one of the staff,” he reminded, although he had no business in this area. Unless there were a thousand of ropes needed to be tended to, there was no need to be in most parts of the ship, to be truthful. Wait, did he just call him chicken? A huff, then a roll of his eyes. He was not a chicken.
Untangling his fingers from Lovino’s, he stepped further into the area - about three or five big steps before turning his head, as to look over his shoulder. “The only chicken one here is you, because you are still over there.”
"Say, what is it you plan to do once this cruise is over?"
Lovino heard the question loud and clear; in fact, he had been wondering that himself, as he leaned himself over on his elbows, watching the vast ocean pass them by. The gulls cooed overhead; he made a straight line with his lips, and rested his chin in his palm.
“Before I plan any ritzy life goals for the future, I gotta figure out what the hell I’m gonna do for work after we get through Ellis Island.” Lovino spoke evenly, as though he were just now making the plan up as he went along. “Grandpa’s waiting there for us, but in the meantime, I have my sisters to worry about. Sia’s not in good health as it is; I’m gonna have to knock some fucking heads if they quarantine her there.” His eyebrows furrowed lightly. “But I don’t know. In the end, maybe.. I can figure out what the hell I’m good at. Hopefully.”

[ he can see that Toni is just tuning him out, but he lets it be, as it would be too much work to go on another lecture, and it seems like he understands anyway. respect is only necessary to the point that his orders would be followed in urgent situations ]
Oh. [ blinkblink, that is surprising ] Who said that?
[ truthfully, he hadn’t come here with the thought of relaying any messages. in fact, there wasn’t a message to relay at all. his intention was to primarily check if he could get on the captain’s nerves further but after that lecture, boy. antonio can do without that voice providing an even heavier headache upon his already pained head ]
Ah--yes. [ mmm, time to make something up ] [ he’s become quite attuned on how to provide good lies, so hopefully this one works. ] [ waIT, did he say WHO said that? shit shit shit ] I don’t recall their name. [ HMM ] Apologies, captain. I don’t exactly keep the names of those I don’t care about in my mind.
[ leans against the open door ] [ B) look on his face ] Captain.
[ narrows his eyes ] What do you want now? Come here to gloat at all the misery you’ve caused me?

It’s not enough to just ‘follow orders’ word for word. A good employee–nay, anyone with sense could easily derive the most reasonable course of action in that situation. [ he purses his lips; if he stops there, then it might sound like he’s saying that Antonio has no sense ] [ …which he doesn’t mean to imply. besides that, he didn’t take the last thinly veiled insult directed at him very well ] And you’re a wise man, so the only explanation I have would be that you meant to make a fool of me. Ah well, we shall let bygones be bygones. [ waves his hand ] [ inside, he still hasn’t forgiven him yet ] What did they say?
[ a lecture? hm ] [ he knows how it works, but quite rankly, he does not care seeing as--for him--if the captain wishes for respect, then perhaps he should respect those working below him as well. a captain is nothing without those who aid him, and doubting one’s abilities makes the distrust Bad ]
[ oh, he’s finally done. ] Anyway, as I was saying. [ yes, he rly isn’t going to say Anything to that bc the captain does have a point but at the same time, he is very stubborn ] They wanted to applaud you on your efforts so far.
[ leans against the open door ] [ B) look on his face ] Captain.
[ narrows his eyes ] What do you want now? Come here to gloat at all the misery you’ve caused me?

My, I do not know what you’re speaking of, captain. I simply followed orders; difficult to completely follow them if the orders are not too specific. [ 8) ] And I came here with a message from one of the passengers of the first class.
[ leans against the open door ] [ B) look on his face ] Captain.
[ narrows his eyes ] What do you want now? Come here to gloat at all the misery you’ve caused me?

The gentleness of his touch made Lovino arch his back lightly; a flutter of his eyes, intense as he struggled to keep his composure. Swallowing, he nodded, before gesturing toward the lower level entry’s direction with a jerk of his head.
“C’mon. I’ve been dying to see the structure.” Seeing everything that was put into sailing this huge ship was itching at him from day one - he had to see. “Maybe we’ll find some other cool shit down there, too.”
Cool shit? Like what---a corpse? Unlikely. But he wasn’t one to rain on someone’s parade. He, too, was curious about what was below deck, though with his work being primarily in the open, never did he get the chance to take a look. Sure, he’d seen what laid beneath it all from other ships, but each one was different. Each one held a story and-- Oh. Best hurry.
Lacing his fingers with Lovino’s, it didn’t take all too long until the two of them reached the destined area. A lacklustre of staff, it seemed. Which was grand. No one was here to stop them, not even the security.
“My, aren’t we lucky.” Despite there being no one, he chose to keep his voice relatively quiet, but audible enough to be heard. “A quick look and we’ll be good to go back out before anyone finds us here.”

Instinctively, Lovino closed his eyes and leaned into Antonio’s hand. God, he’d wished they weren’t in broad daylight.
“Hey.” He mumbled, leaning in close to the shell of Antonio’s ear. “Have you gone down below deck yet? I don’t think passengers are supposed to go below where the ovens and shit are, but I mean.” A wry grin. “I’ve been wanting to go explore.”
Oh.
What on earth was worth exploring down below deck? Well, whatever it was, he was sure it’d be better than being out in the open. Despite his love for the ocean and all else, being in the open also meant he could get called for at any time. He didn’t want to work right now.
“I’m sure I can get you through without any problem, querido. Just,” his hands moved down from his head, down to his back and lower, only removing itself as to reach for one of his hands to give it a tight squeeze. “Stay close, yes?”
"Say, what is it you plan to do once this cruise is over?"
Lovino heard the question loud and clear; in fact, he had been wondering that himself, as he leaned himself over on his elbows, watching the vast ocean pass them by. The gulls cooed overhead; he made a straight line with his lips, and rested his chin in his palm.

borsaiolo:
There was a dry laugh as Lovino crossed his arms over the railing. Well, there wasn’t exactly a trade school aboard the RMS Titanic– if there was, Lovino was sure he’d sneak a peek in. But unfortunately for this third class scrub, no such luxury was present.
“Not sure I’ll be able to figure out my calling in the week it’ll take to get there.” He scoffed, running a hand through his hair. “Maybe I’ll just help Grandpa out until I can do whatever it is I’m good at to make money.” Well, why dwell on it now? Pushing the thought aside, Lovino glanced to his right, eyeing Antonio curiously. “You’re good at lots of things - music, dancing, you’re good with your hands. I’m sure you’ll find something pretty quick.”
“The same can be said about you. You are good at many things too, music and dance included. You’ve got a mind filled with wondrous things and a heart that is pure. I’m sure, in time, you will figure something out.”
Mayhaps his words weren’t all too much, but they were genuine at very least. If he wished, however, to have Antonio prove his words, then he’d be more than happy to write a long list of things the man would be good at - and this was all based on the short time they had known each other.
Removing himself from the railing he’d been leaning against, he inched himself to be in a closer proximity to Lovino, a hand instinctively making it’s way to his head, giving it the gentlest of pats. “’Sides, I just wanted to know ‘cause once this trip is over, I’m probably going to retire from hopping aboard one ship to another. My ‘good with hands’ skill is best used elsewhere.”

With that explanation, Antonio truly could not withstand having to hold back his laughter. So, he didn’t. Allowing quite the hearty laugh loose, he rolled his eyes amusingly. My, my. Perhaps, in a way, his tone may have seemed like he had been stating this man had cheated his way onto the Titanic, but truthfully, that was more so his terrible inability to word things correctly.
“Do not worry, I don’t think you are a cheat or a scoundrel. Just, it is very amusing, and it was that mans fault for having put his ticket in such a vulnerable spot. Poor ticket, how pained it must be.” Ah yes, immaturity at its finest. Pretending that an inanimate object had a sense of emotion.
Speaking of which, it seemed the cards within his hands were pained as well; luck was most definitely not in the cards tonight. “Still, I wish I could’ve been there to see it. Sounds like a story! Have any other interesting wins, or.. losses?"
“You’re a good liar.”
“Best way to win bets,” Abel murmured, placing down the cards to show a winning hand, “and cards, how do you think I got on this ship?”

[ entertainment? perhaps; he was quite sure he gave most of the staff quite a good show after having tied the captain up - all on the captain’s orders, of course. ] Is that so? Well. Never did he think that, upon this ship, he’d be graced with what appeared to be friendship from someone of such class. This man, in the times he had passed him by during the first day, had seem as if he’d much keep to himself. One of those prestigious, know-it-all, silent types that tended to speak ill of others behind their back. Perhaps it was wrong for him to be so judgemental in the beginning, but such a thing was difficult in this time and age. Everyone was judgemental.
Of course, at this point, no longer did he view the man as just another passenger running amidst the radiance of the upper class. He was, now, a friend of his. One he hoped that, after this trip, he’d be able to keep. And one who he had been wrong about from the get go. At least now, he was learning more about this man’s life than he thought he’d be allowed to.
“That is hard to believe, señor. Not because I don’t believe your words–I do. Just, you seem much more well off than one could ever dream of.”
Perhaps those words were harmful? He hoped not. Often times, he’d be much more wary of the words he’d choose to speak around others, but around Lukas? Oddly enough, there seemed to be quite the great amount of comfort he could find from his friend. “And.. it’s just– I’m not sure how to explain it.”
“I feel as I’m .. standing in the middle of a crowded room, screaming at the top of my lungs and no one even looks up.”
“I,” he paused, unsure whether to divulge the fact to someone he’d known only a few days. Normally, Lukas would keep his guard up around strangers for months at the least, but there was something about this voyage, that made him feel like throwing caution to the wind, so he decided to continue. If pressed, he would put it down to so much time out on the open ocean, but in reality it was more like a feeling, deep in his gut.
“I know the feeling,” he said slowly, as though still somewhat unsure of his confession. “You may not believe it but, I didn’t come from wealth. There was a time I was very much in need, but hardly anyone would glance my way, let alone lend a hand.”
He sighed, leaning his elbows on the railing as he looked out over the sea, turning his head to glance at Antonio again. “What’s got you feeling like that?”

His money? Well, if he wanted it to be that way, then so be it. No way in the burning pits of hell beyond the ocean was he ever going to insist that his own money be placed on the betting line once more. There was something known as needing money to, perhaps, buy some food and survive.
Luckily, once this trip was over, he’d surely get paid well. Big, expensive unsinkable ship filled with pristine first class travellers and a one way ticket to not needing to worry about having to work for at least a month or two.
Showing off, huh. A true vulnerability right there, but this amused him. The story, having shut down someone’s unnecessary pride and whatnot. He wouldn’t deny that this story didn’t have him wishing he could’ve been there to witness it all, but was it true? He wondered. The tone lacked enthusiasm that of which a storyteller would often harbour within their voice. S’pose this man was not a storyteller to being with. Merely that of a cunning thief.
“Hm, interesting. Is that truly it? No, ah.. repercussions at all? Usually, I would assume, people would not sit idly by while their ticket gets torn out of their hands. You have basically stolen their ability for a new path in life.”
“You’re a good liar.”
“Best way to win bets,” Abel murmured, placing down the cards to show a winning hand, “and cards, how do you think I got on this ship?”

“Not for you I’m not.” She grumbled, still evidently bitter about the entirety of the ordeal. Agatha glared up at Antonio, though with very little bite. “What did you want?”
“Ouch! See, now I really do have something broken and is not technology.” He clutched at his chest, a pout overtaking his features. Quite the actor. A bit too dramatic at times. “Now my heart is broken. But I just wanted to catch up! Maybe go have some dinner somewhere, go shopping. Whatever friends do.”
"Doctora! Emergency, emergency! Something is broken!"
Broken- what-
Doctor mode engaged. Agatha’s face slipped into a cool, yet determined expression, and she marched over to him swiftly. Calmly, she demanded.
“What’s the problem?”

“I don’t like bothering her with trivial things. She’s a very busy person and I have enough questions as it is without asking her about locks and chests and balance…” Marianne shrugged,
“I think you explained well enough, I just don’t understand why it’s that way. I guess if I were given a box of chocolates I would still eat them because I wouldn’t know what each one tasted like… they’re all different, even though they’re chocolate, so it’s still a surprise.” Marianne huffed as well, pouting only a little, “it’s like asking what the meaning of life is. I’m an amesiac, but people think because I’ve had a near-death experience that I’ll somehow know what their purpose is. I don’t even know my own purpose. I’d prefer it as a surprise anyway, I think.”
“People ask you those questions?” He was, truthfully, quite baffled over this finding; how could anyone expect someone who had almost died to suddenly come out of it with sage-like tendencies? Astonishing, and not in the nicest of ways. “They seem.. insensitive, in a way, for asking you that but I assume you handled it nicely. You are a very nice woman, after all. I can see why doctora Kirkland had been head over heels for you.”
Looking over his shoulder, he wanted to make sure they were quite a good walk away from the ocean before halting his own movement. Certainly she’d feel much better now, being surrounded by trees with a clear path towards the city, rather than an endless view of the ocean. “Whenever you think you have figured out your purpose, I’m sure you will be very happy! Let me know, okay? We need to celebrate when the time comes!”
“Balance is the key.”
“the key to what?” Marianne tilted her head. “Balancing what?”
