why are there two separate instances of quark using the french term “objet d’art”. like with perfect pronunciation too. like he’s not even actually speaking english to begin with either, he’s speaking ferengi and it’s automatically translated to whatever language those around him understand via their universal translator implants (and given the show was made with a widely english-speaking audience in mind, we hear him in english). so like. why would he know any french, a language that, according to star trek canon, is rarely even spoken anywhere on earth anymore. and why is it not translated. is the universal translator just able to understand when to leave things untranslated for dramatic effect ? it’s just so funny to me
