Act two is where we need to see more of Dave and his struggle with grief and alcohol, his failure to relate to his son, and his relationship with Grace invading James’ fantasy. Perhaps he suggests that the kingdom have a new queen, because that’s what he wants.. to move on.

King Dave doesn’t realize how seriously James takes his fantasy. He gives him an order, not expecting him to actually follow it through, but James does.

Perhaps James’ mother died in her sleep with James next to her. So James feels as though he let his guard down. So change the nightmare scene to be James in the nightmare, not reacting to it.

‘Traumatic grief’
The suddenly bereaved person might seek out places, or do things, that remind them of the person who died.
Anger and bitterness, sometimes in sudden bouts (DAVE)

Thinking big
If I had a large budget I’d want to completely immerse the audience with the set as well as the drama of the show. Perhaps there’d be a medieval theme within the auditorium as well as on stage; seats could be decorating, object hung on the walls like in assassins where they had a carnival feel. Perhaps the audience are at a feast? I could have front of house dressed up in costume and the programmes given out could be made of parchment and sealed.

Pilgrimage
Film Squire Tom on a pilgrimage to Clacton On Sea. Show the video to the people watching the show, on a projector or something.

Horses
For the horses legs I could use kitchen roll tubes and paint the ends of them black, to look like hooves? I could attach the tubes to the corners of the horses body.

Rules of jousting -
Knights would try to unseat each other.
The lances must be raised.
In reenactment jousting, it’s: 1 point for a touch. 5 points for shattering a lance.

Weapons I could create/use in round two!
A flail - could attatch a tennis ball or a crumpled up ball of paper selotaped together and painted?
Sword - just made of cardboard but taped around the edges to make it blunt.

A scroll of things you hate - vegetarians.. who eat fish. Etc.
Bars and pubs that measure alcohol in a little tin before pouring it in the glass.
Violence in football - there’s not enough of it! The fewer rules the better! Rules create limitation, the foe of possibility - you only need a few of them. Cheese Rolling; charge down a hill, touch the cheese. That’s a real sport. Not like cricket.
Students who use computers in the library. I use ink and quill, with a candle if it gets dark. The librarians love me dearly. I had extenuating circumstances throughout my GCSE’s, allowing me the use of parchment and quill and for my words to be translated. From Latin.

Bring up the front row of the audience to compete in a tourny, the knife and fork potato challenge. The winners, bring to the side whilst the losers sit back down. The winners then compete in a second stage of the tourney - a melee. Give them paper swords and shields or perhaps other bizarre weapons such as the ‘pitchfork’ - a distant cousin of the fork or the ‘sword’ - related to the knife. They then face each other - first to score three hits. The remaining winners are inducted into the knighthood order. Give them funny names - Sir this or that, and award them prizes - ask the audience who out of the remaining deserves first, second, and third place.

Feedback -
Be more confident with your character. It’s your world!
Gesture for certain words - like a hawk.
Perhaps don’t sing knights in white satin at first but speak it and pretend it’s an original poem. It works! Just say: So many nights I’ve spent alone.. in white satin.. never reaching the end.

Dave is fine with me adding scenes to the show. He also recommends I find a lute player! I should aim to add another ten minutes of quality material by November.
