everytime i think about keplers death i tear up a little because it’s SO well written. the line “im still a person” in and of itself is so good, but what really gets to me is the fact that warren kepler, so desperate for acclaim and recognition, comfortably acknowledges that jacobi and the rest will never know what he did. because he is still a person, and in the moment that means more to him than anything he used to fight for. even when he gets into the airlock, he doesn’t even beg to be let out, he isn’t scared, he knows that there’s no other way this could end for him, and he’s okay with it. he doesn’t want the others to know what he did to help them, he knows he doesn’t deserve their forgiveness. he knows that he has been the whiskey and the creator of the whiskey speech, he has been the pig that is too good to eat in a single sitting and the farmer, and he gets to go out knowing that in the end, he isn’t a victim or an offender, he’s just a person. anyway i just finished my second relisten of the year and i love wolf 359 goodnight everyone

In "Desperate Measures," when Lovelace drops Wolf 359's single f-bomb, she interrupts Kepler, and when I first listened to the series I interpreted that as her acting out of spite. I mean, he's playing eenie-meenie-miney-moe with her and Eiffel's lives, I feel like she definitely deserves to say fuck you to that. But her interruption is right before Kepler's about to say his final "moe," and it's rushed. And all I can think of now is Lovelace seeing Kepler about to land on Eiffel and thinking, "No, I've seen enough of my crew members die," and choosing to take the bullet for him. Poking the bear on purpose, because she couldn't save her other team, but if she just stalls for long enough then this team might make it.
