I think one of my favorite things in writing and reading fiction consists of characters using defensive powers/abilities offensively
You have the ability to regenerate/heal yourself?
Neat! Go full Noi and completely beef yourself up. Hit the Gym! Working out is essentially stressing your muscles out to the point where they regenerate themselves into a stronger version. You can skip the soreness and make yourself swole in record time. It’ll also train your healing capabilities if it is something that can be trained. Make yourself a tank in firepower and durability!
You have the ability to heal other people?
Great! You are the perfect torturer as people will have no evidence of you doing anything. Go full Josuke and beat the shit out of someone, only to heal them and then beat them to a pulp again.
You have the ability to create barriers around yourself?
Awesome! Goblin Slayer had the right idea with Priestess. Trap your enemies with a set of barriers and go to town as you essentially trap them in a corner. Or place a barrier over yourself and start walking over your enemy. Completely crush them like a road roller. Bonus points if it’s transparent for added fear factor as they watch in horror as their bones are being crushed.
Have the ability to teleport people/things/yourself?
Well shit, you’re a walking armory now. Depending on the limitations of the ability you can just teleport a grenade into your enemy’s stomach. Or drop an anvil on top of them and go full looney toons. Be fancy and chuck a knife at them, only to teleport in front of them, stab them with another knife, and then teleport away as the first knife you threw hits them as they reel in pain. I once made up a character who can teleport through mirrors like portals. In her main hideout she covered the walls, floors, and ceiling like a mirror maze. Cue in some acrobatics on her part and you have an entertaining brawl that’ll confound the viewer almost as much as the person she’s fighting.
Have the ability to calm the mind of someone?
Cool! You can be an awesome assassin. Place the spell on someone with a weak heart and have them hear stressful or horrifying news. The second you take off the spell they become overwhelmed by the flood of emotions. They suffer a heart attack as a result of instantaneous, overabundant stress.
Go wild with your character’s defensive abilities. Just cause someone gained a defensive/ passive power, doesn’t mean that they can’t still be a sadist.
