WIP Wednesday - Locked Together in Hatred

RotS anniversary rewatch inspiration has resurrected a dead/lost/abandoned fic idea I'm in love with that never became anything, my angst filled post RotS au. Will it become something this time around? No promises.

Obi-Wan didn't reach for the void; he didn't need to.

Ever present, it existed on the edge of his awareness, like the hushed crash of waves that crested and rolled onto a distant shore. The vast emptiness was ceaseless; it could fade into the background of his consciousness, unnoticed for a time, eventually surging back to his awareness.

Constant.

It thrummed, its inescapable rhythm just steady as the stubborn muscle that beat in his chest. It refused to allow him to find peace, every petulant pulse a reminder that he didn't deserve the reprieve. It was with him whether he sought it out or not; just as present as the guilt that had infused itself into every cell of his body and wound tightly around ever fiber of his being.

Inescapable.

Like the betrayal and loss and grief that cut his lungs with each breath. Like ever present chill in his bones. Like his one companion and the void in which they had been condemned.

Togther.

That was, perhaps, the cruelest part of his self imposed punishment.

And like everything else, it was his own fault. It was Obi-Wan's decisions that had led them here.

Obi-Wan is 100% into fly fishing. He owns a sailboat (not a regular motor boat because he is extra like that) and likes to go sea fishing. He maybe even makes his own flies, and like to tell anecdotes how back in in Victorian era they made salmon flies with the feathers of exotic birds.

Anakin first went fishing with Cliegg and Owen, wearing Owen's old rubber boots that were too big for him. Instead of fishing he spend his time catching frogs. Some years later he has his own fishing gear and it's Luke and Leia who catch frogs instead of fishing.
