Writing Initiative #7
I learned that I put too much effort at once, and I hope that I keep doing what I planned to do before I get the critique, which caused me to spend so much time and money just to have other people fully make me change my idea entirely, despite all the work I have done. And when it came to my presentation because I was the third person I was really nervous so I fully forgot to explain the meaning behind each piece I did and mostly talked about the problems I went through rather than the actuall assignment!
The most difficult aspect was to keep experimenting with my 3d because it kept changing or failing, and I couldn't achieve all I really wanted, which was also not my fault and just how hard my project came to be since the object I chose had weakness points, and that's why it kept breaking. I had to wait long periods of time for each piece, which took so long despite how simple it looked. So crafting was the hardest part, as it was my first time ever using candle wax or silicone molding techniques and all the money I had to spend on material.
I enjoyed seeing everyone's work and getting feedback from either the same or totally different people each week who got a different view on everything! And also benign able to see how others are able to come up with ideas and how they can connect different things to one subject!
I would say I could have done better, but I unfortunately had so many personal and health complications that drained me so much as it was eating at me while I had to constantly put time for my assignment and also had to go to work with all of this happening so it’s not that I didn’t try hard its just that life was just so horrible lately and I wish it was different…
I would maybe plan ahead a little more and maybe next time not choose such hard and time consuming medium and not fully go with what my peers told me to do because they are not the one in my shoes and do not understand how it will be done and how hard it can be so maybe just stand on my own words and just ask them to give me more ideas about the specific idea that i have in mind and already started on rather than trying to change my stuff and make it way harder and longer for me just because it looks cooler and nicer, because they won’t understand the difficulties and just see how it would look in the end.

Reflective idea
I wanted to create a box that includes all the candles that I made throughout this project, molds I made for candles and all the resin skulls that I created. Also would want to include some pieces from ideas that I had or started on before the medium and things changed to show all the thongs I used that worked and not worked out in the end. Showing that even though my project looks so plain and easy, it is not and I had to go through lots of experiments and material waste to finally come up with the final works. I would probably put the feathers I first bought to create my 3D's first idea which was a mobile with red green and blue feathers, by projecting rgb changing lights it would have created a motion illusion as the colours would change when the light changed. After I would put the plaster hand I created and put lots of work and bought more material to smoothen and fix it better for my second idea which I really really liked but my peers told me to change it. That idea was my favourite and I was so excited for it as I always wanted to create such a piece after I first tried working with plaster in high school. I would also probably wrap it in a wrapping paper that has some sort of sleep related design, add a pillow and blanket just to create a theme here.

All timelapse recorded videos
All the videos taken to put together and make the final 4D assignment is posted on my website because I can't post them one by one here.

4D timelapse complications
I had to record my time lapse in multiple videos because my phoen had to be charged with a power bank and once I turned off the lights so had to do the recording a little after it started. I also had to melt some of the wax by lighter since the candle is outside a glass and the heat of one wick wouldn't melt all the parts around to fully melt and show the item.

4D assignment complications
I had to put the skull behind my candle so when it melts the candle fully melts down as when you put the skull inside the candle the wick would not be placed properly and since the candles are all cracked in the middle, i had to add wood stick to add to the wick and keep them together. Therefore I couldn't place the stick inside to keep the candle together if the skull was at the bottom of the candle and when it melted the wax would be covering the skull so it was a better idea to put the skull outside.

3D final pieces
for my final work I decided to have my full unburnt candle , my semi burnt/melted candle in the middle and my fully melted candle revealing my skull on the right which is from after I melted my candle and recorded my 4D time lapse.

here is my middle candle melting before the final photo

Writing Initiative #6
I showed more resin skulls and my final idea about the reflective piece. I couldn't show the 4D video because I had some problems with candle making, as the mold did not respond well, so I had to create another one. I made a few more candles, but they both broke in the middle, and the other mould started leaking, so I couldn't make any candles with that. A few things about what I showed were the new colours I used in my skulls, which were mostly blue/purple instead of black which I was told is a better colour choice. I also mentioned what I would put at the bottom of my skull, and it says “ Your Time Is Up” and everyone thought that's a good one to say as it is directly referencing the time lost and that the candle has melted and there is no way back to fixing it. One more good point was that I decided to create a box to show all the molds, broken candles, resin skulls and even the hand I used to make in the beginning for my 3D piece, which was changed to the candle instead. Showing all the process of me having to experiment and see how things turn out. One thing they thought I could improve was to maybe add more elements to my reflective piece which is the box. All three pieces are connected, and one cannot exist if the previous assignment isn’t finished. I have to finish one to go to the next one, and I still have lots of experimenting and perfecting my work.
My 2D piece directly shows a quick visual of how the word Somnolent feels like, dizzy and sleepy, by showing the head motion all blurry and moving over time, creating the atmosphere by adding a black and white filter and adjusting the curves to darker or brighter adjustments.
My 3D is a candle in the shape of an hourglass that shows the concept of time, and is connected to my 4D, which will show the candle melt. This shows the time passing by as you are dizzy and sleepy, causing you to be left behind and be lost in time while it goes by, and you will realize how much you have lost at the end. The object getting revealed (the skull) is to show that the time has passed and it; 's too late by showing the skull resembling death and the end, followed up with the note at the bottom saying that the time is up. In the end, my reflective piece is a box with all the bits and pieces that worked and didn't work, showing all the time I spent trying to work this out and how much money, time, and material were wasted or used to finally succeed.
