marisa smirked at charlie's familiar banter, her eyes sparkling with amusement. it wasn't the first time she found herself the target of his teasing, nor would it likely be the last. she leaned casually against the counter, arms folded, ready to spar verbally. "you know, charlie, if lightning struck every time someone told a fib, i think we'd all be a little more careful with our words," she retorted with a playful glint in her eye. as he fiddled with the cover a book, she couldn't help but chuckle at his antics. "supporting local business, huh? we're certainly grateful for that," she teased, raising an eyebrow teasingly. "and here i thought you were just here to torment me with your presence." she chuckled softly, shaking her head in mock exasperation. "as for me always being here, well, someone has to keep this place running smoothly, don't they? besides, where else would i get to enjoy such stimulating conversations with you?"
the familiarity of the taunts brought a smile to his face. it wasn't uncommon ( or surprising ) that charlie's remarks are usually met with irritated glances and snap judgements. marisa never minded his irritating comments, and always matched his quips with her own wit. " you shouldn't lie, you'll be struck down with lightning or something like that. " he chuckled; his hands already poking and prodding at the bookmarks and booklights that lined the counter. " well, i believe in supporting local business, of course. and besides, me being here so much is basically protecting my job, y'know ? " he paused as if she'd magically be able to understand whatever nonsense he was getting ready to spew her way. " i'm an english teacher. " he said after a minute of silence between them. as if it was obvious. " i depend on books, and where better to get books than a book store hm ? i'm here for work, you just happened to be here. you're always here, i mean do you do anything else actually ? "

marisa's face softened into a proud smile. "no problem at all. you know i'd do anything for them, including ensuring they head to school looking perfectly styled," she affirmed, a sense of maternal instinct guiding her actions, perhaps influenced by her role in caring for her younger brother. although, she recognized the unique challenges of raising girls, particularly in the realm of hairstyling."absolutely, these supplies are essential for every girl at some point in their lives," she remarked, nodding as she reached for a comb. "i'll make sure to leave you some supplies." with a comb in hand, she began her tutorial. "first things first, brushing out any tangles. they'll let you know if you've missed one," she advised, running the comb through the synthetic hair. "then, gather it all up," she instructed, deftly securing it in place with a hair tie. "wrap it around a few times, not too loose, not too tight," she added, demonstrating the technique with a practiced hand. "got it?"
all ranveer can really deliver on is neatly brushed or combed hair with a headband, so when marisa offered to teach them her many skills in hairstyling, ranveer of course took her up on the offer. they were very intentional with not parentifying their oldest sister, so ranveer chose to do the youngest and middle's hair, even if it meant just making sure their hair was neat and not in a style. apparently, he was terrible at ponytails, because one morning the youngest, ava, had a full meltdown when she looked in the mirror and found out her hair was lopsided. so, instead, he contacted marisa in hopes that she could teach them how to do their sister's hair properly. "thanks for coming." ranveer smiled softly. "wow, you really came prepared. you had all of this at the ready?" their brow quirked up at the supplies she came with. "someone's excited." they joked before going through the stuff marisa brought. "alright, pony tail. let's go. now, i know enough to know that you need one of these...." ranveer held up a black scrunchie with a small smirk. "and maybe, uh...hairspray?"

she was deeply engrossed in the movie when a familiar voice, one she had almost forgotten, startled her, causing her to almost choke on her popcorn. it was unmistakably manu's voice, and an immediate urge to escape washed over her. after all, she had abruptly cut off contact with him after a few dates. despite genuinely liking him, she had ghosted him upon discovering he was a fisherman, driven by her irrational fear of water—a fact that was already embarrassing. there was also the peculiar detail that he failed to grasp the romantic essence of shrek, which could be considered a second red flag."what do you mean? fiona and shrek's love story is the epitome of a fairy tale," she whispered in response, attempting to conceal her face behind her hair. "it's about finding love in unexpected places."
# open starter ! location : aire libre's romance-a-thon night, february 4th.
“ i mean, don't get me wrong— ” he mutters, earning a few shushes from the people around trying to watch shrek without interruption. manu tries again, dropping his voice even lower. “ i like the movie, but i'm a bit lost. how is this a romantic movie? ” unfamiliar with the movie, he's unable to grasp the connection between the plot of shrek and the atmosphere of romance the movies are supposed to portray.

marisa nodded empathetically, her gaze thoughtful as she considered leon's words. "it's okay to feel the emotions and let yourself heal," she said, offering a supportive smile. "and don't worry i'm here to listen." she gave him a playful nudge before taking a sip from her beer. "as for me, well, the usual. work has been a bit more hectic these past days which i guess is good. and i tried pickleball for the first and last time ever."
"it's been a few weeks, yeah," leon says about the breakup with salem. "it's been tough but i guess i just gotta feel through it, right? or at least something like that," he shrugs, quickly taking a sip from his beer. "i don't know, i don't really wanna bore you with this. tell me, what have you been up to?" he asks.

upon hearing the jingle of the bell above the door, she set the book she was immersed in down. a subtle smirk played on her lips at the sight of charlie, though she initially feigned annoyance before succumbing to a smile, especially after his rather questionable ricky ricardo imitation. "i'm thrilled that honesty is the policy here, so i don't have to pretend i missed you terribly," she remarked with a soft laugh. "but really, charlie," she continued, leaning on the counter and fixing him with a playful gaze, "the world might stop turning if you didn't swing by here this often. by the way, don't you have a job or something?" she asked, tilting her head in mock curiosity. "now, be honest, do you come here for my enlightening company?" the twinkle in her eyes hinted at the teasing nature of her inquiry.
status / closed , @sonetcs location / inherited escapes
for someone who talked about how much he worked, he certainly didn't act like it. charlie was back at inherited escapes ( again ) for what had to be the tenth time that week. of course, it was because he loved being surrounded by books and perusing through the extensive collection, and he hardly left without anything in his hand. but he also went there so much for marisa. charlie couldn't remember the last time he has a friend as close as marisa that shared the same interests as him and could talk for hours about poetry with. when the bell of the store rung to signal his arrival he stood in the doorway, arms open. " honey, i'm home ! " he exclaimed with his best ricky ricardo impression ( which wasn't very good on account of the accent ). " how much did you miss me ? it's okay, you can be honest. " he spoke as he leaned on the counter to look over it to see what she was doing.

"i've got a little bit of everything," she says with a smile, placing a bag brimming with assorted items on the table. "i even brought a bust-head mannequin because tonight, i'm on a mission to teach you the art of mastering various hairstyles." as she speaks, she unveils a box filled with an array of essentials – hair ties, elastics, scrunchies, hairpins, gel, a comb, and practically everything ranveer might require. "let's kick things off with a basic ponytail, so don't worry, you'll make it through unscathed," she reassures him, enthusiasm evident in her voice.

maria isabel "marisa" irigaray was born in colonia, uruguay, and spent the initial five years of her life there before her family relocated to montevideo. born into a family with a banker father and a receptionist mother, marisa's upbringing was shaped by her parents sacrificing their dream careers for a more secure livelihood. while her father came to terms with the curtailment of his musical aspirations, her mother, an aspiring painter, struggled to move past the relinquishment of her artistic dreams. over time, her mother harbored resentment towards her husband and children for the role they played in truncating her ambitions.
despite her mother's usual cold and distant demeanor, there were instances when, under the influence of alcohol, she would engage in lengthy conversations with marisa about the profound significance of art. ironically, these intoxicated moments with her mother ignited a curiosity for art within marisa. she experimented with various forms, including painting, singing, and sculpting, but ultimately discovered her true calling in the realm of words.
at the age of eight, marisa's mother reached a breaking point and chose to abandon the family. devastated by this abandonment, marisa's father, though successful in providing a comfortable life financially, became immersed in work and frequently neglected his two children emotionally.
at 18, she attended university, majoring in literature. it was in her junior year that she seized the opportunity to spend a semester as an exchange student in valparaiso. it was during this time that marisa developed a deep affection for the city and vowed to return someday.
after completing her studies back in uruguay, she graduated and worked as a teacher for a few years. simultaneously, she dedicated her free time to crafting poems and actively sought a publishing house for her work.
one year ago, she made the bold decision to relocate to valparaiso. opting for a less demanding job than teaching, she sought a position at a bookstore, allowing her more time for writing. embracing a modest lifestyle, she now resides in the city.

marisa holds a special affinity for mario benedetti's "la tregua," making it her favorite book. additionally, she admires the works of horacio quiroga and jorge luis borges. among her preferred poets are gabriela mistral, rosario castellanos, sylvia plath, and pablo neruda.
influenced by her father's musical tastes, marisa grew up immersed in spanish rock, with a particular fondness for bands like soda stereo, héroes del silencio, and caifanes.
her upbringing also instilled in her a love for cooking, a skill passed down by her mother from their italian immigrant roots. marisa takes pride in her ability to prepare homemade pasta, with cannelloni being her signature dish.
her early education included attending an italian school, but her proficiency in the language has diminished over time since her mother's abandonment. despite being a bit rusty, she still retains some knowledge of italian.
while marisa often mentions "before sunrise" as one of her top 5 favorite movies, her true favorite is "mamma mia!"
unbeknownst to many, she harbors a fear of water due to a childhood accident at the age of five, which prevented her from learning how to swim. she keeps this detail private, sharing it with only a few people.
