lucy gray internally rolled her eyes at his comment, biting the inside of her cheek as she made herself refrain from snapping at him once more. ❝ what do you mean by that ? ❞ the brunette questioned as she narrowed her eyes at him. was he really trying to downplay the pain in her stomach right now ? ❝ some snakes are venomous, but the one i left to distract you long enough for me to get away isn't venomous. it probably bit you because you're a psychopath that wouldn't just let me go. ❞ she hadn't meant to snap at him, but the way he was accusing her of being cruel enough to envenom him. as he set his arm in her lap, lucy gray couldn't help the laugh that escaped upon inspecting it. ❝ darlin', you can barely tell anything happened. you're overreacting. ❞
“Yes. In a more normal circumstance.” he corrected, since this wasn’t exactly normal. Their clothes stained in dirt after a goose chase in the woods said otherwise, at least he had a different one on now but his pants and arms and face were still dirty. “I should have known you would say that.” he scoffs, snatching the bag back from where she shoved it into the floor and throwing it on the chair. “I’m not responding to you anymore about poisoning you. I didn’t poison you, Lucy Gray. But you certainly tried to poison me today, we can prove that you did.” Pointing fingers with his words, he had to worriedly check his forearm while thinking of it, making sure it wasn’t swelling before sitting next to her on the bed and putting his arm in her lap.

❝ i changed my mind, coriolanus, am i not allowed to do that ? ❞ she asked him in a soft voice, giving a little pout as if it upset her how skeptical he was being about her wanting to share the bed now. ❝ it's worse than a normal stomach ache. i wouldn't be complaining about it if it was just a typical ache. ❞ she informed him as she clenched her jaw. she was trying to be nice, but lucy gray was annoyed at him trying to pretend like he hadn't poisoned her. she knew that he had. ❝ no. i'm not going to look through your things. you probably got rid of the evidence anyway, that's why you're so willing to let me look through your stuff. ❞ she was just as skeptical of him as he was of her. ❝ let's just drop this and get to sleep. ❞ she huffed, shoving the bag onto the floor.
"Oh? How was it supposed to mean then?" It feels like she's lying just so he won't mad, he thinks. "You didn't have that attitude earlier." he points out, so he has to be suspicious why she's suddenly being normal and nice to him again. "No, it's– what? I didn't poison you, Lucy Gray. Whatever you have, it's just a normal stomach ache." he stresses once again. "I do think that, but I'm not sure that you do." Truthfully. He stood back up to grab all of his belongings, bringing them over to drop onto her lap. His bag, his clothes. "Feel free to check all of it for any poison." If any of it would hold poison, it would be his mother's compact inside his bag, which was just a mirror and no poison at all inside of it.

❝ i didn’t mean for it to be threatening is all, ❞ she explained in a soft voice, changing her tune slightly to appease him and get him back to trusting her at least a little. ❝ i do care, i don’t think the floor will be good for either of us, so we can share the bed. ❞ lucy gray shrugged as she studied him, wondering if he believed her at all. ❝ unless this is your way of telling me that you don’t care about the aching in my stomach from the poison. ❞ she still believed that theory. something must have poisoned her. ❝ if we’re going to be stuck together, i think we should learn to get along again. don’t you think ? ❞ she’d get the blond to trust her and then take off sometime in the middle of the night. eventually. this was a long term plan. it couldn’t just happen over night.
❝ wasn’t threatening me, just trying to make sense of what’s going through your head is all. ❞ she shrugged as she spoke, narrowing her eyes at his comment. he was correct, of course, and that was annoying to her. the mayor hated lucy gray and would do anything to pin mayfair’s death on her. that was why they’d gone out here to begin with. ❝ can you blame me for being scared ? your hand was coming toward my face with something from your pocket , could have been payback for the snake for all i know, ❞ lucy gray said in a calm voice as she tried to pretend that she was reverting back to how she was before . ❝ thanks, darlin’, ❞ she smiled before taking a sip. this could work, the brunette thought as she studied him. she could get him to trust her this way and then one day she could run and finally get away from him. ❝ maybe we could share the bed, just for tonight. i thought about it and the floor wouldn’t be good for either of us. you know, with your snake bite and my stomach hurting this badly. ❞ she was hoping he’d fall right into the trap she was laying.

After shutting the door back, he turned to her like he was surprised she suspected he had ran off. "Well. Of course I'm back, Lucy Gray." he responds confusingly, ignoring why she would have any ideas he wouldn't. Dirt stains still stuck to his shirt, forearms, hands and his face as he stares at her. Glancing down at his shirt, he realizes that and decides to go sit in the chair next to his bag to take out a clean one. "I'll let you go now, if you want." But not actually. He may let her go of the restraints, but he can't ever let her go now.

❝ you would if you weren’t afraid i’d somehow get out and tell on you, ❞ she spoke plainly, lips pursing together in thought as she watched him going to undo the restraints. letting her arms down, lucy gray tensed, watching as he pulled something from his pocket and moved toward her face with it. her hand instinctively wrapped around his wrist, trying to stop him before realizing he was just putting her earring back in. the smile caught lucy gray off guard for a moment, he almost seemed sweet, like the coriolanus she had fallen in love with. almost. ❝ can you get me water ? ❞ maybe she could trick him, pretend to be the lucy gray he wants her to be. it was key to her survival, after all. compliance until she had a better plan. she’d make him think that she was giving up on leaving. it would work. it had to work.

❝ thought you'd leave me tied here and go back to the capitol or somethin', ❞ lucy gray said bitterly with an eyeroll. after all, that was what he wanted, right ? to leave her for dead and go back to the capitol with all of the other corrupt citizens that believed they were better just because they weren't district. ❝ yes, let me go. i won't try to run. ❞ the lies flowed easily from her now that she didn't care about hurting him or having him trust her. this was coriolanus' fault, really. he was the one that had broken her trust by lying to her. she loved him, but now she was sure that she couldn't ever feel that way about him again.

lucy gray was still in the bed, no longer struggling, just mumbling to herself, trying to make a plan to get away from the man. she wanted him to let her go, but he was clearly more stubborn than she thought. she decided that she would be as awful as she could to get him to leave her alone. or maybe she could act as if she loved him again, get him to trust her once more before betraying him. he'd already broken what they had, so she would feel no remorse when it came to him. anything she did to him was deserved. especially because of the pain in her stomach and the dizziness she'd felt before. he had to have done something to her. she just knew it. ❝ oh you're back ? ❞ she called when she'd heard the door open once again.
"I would like to let you go, Lucy Gray. But I can't." he simply responded, holding her other wrist down to the rails, ignoring how mad and combative she was. "You've given me no choice, to not trust you." he tightly tied her last wrist then moved down to tie her ankles to the bed next, leaving her exactly as put, restrained to a mattress. "I'll be back. I promise." A smile graced his lips, gently taking hold of her chin with his mud stained hand, softly brushing hair away from her cheek. Forcing himself to forget all of the horrible things he'll keep a life long grudge for her to make her feel crazier with his bizarre kindness. Then he pulled away, turning to leave.

lucy gray yanked at the restraints, desperately trying to loosen them at the very least as he took her chin. she glared at him, letting him know just how pissed off she was with her expression alone. as she watched him leave, she continued to struggle on the bed, trying to force her way out. one hand was starting to slip out but wasn't quite there yet. just a little more, she thought as she continued. he'd pay for this, for holding her hostage and keeping her tied down like that. ❝ i hate you, ❞ she finally spoke out loud when he was gone. she meant it. mostly.

the anger coursing through her didn't die down, only grew the more as he secured her to the railing of the bed in the cabin. he would regret tying her up like that, she thought as she yanked her wrists, trying to find any potential breaking point where she could free at least one wrist. ❝ let me go now, coriolanus. ❞ lucy gray didn't trust him when he told her that it would only be until he got back. she didn't believe anything he said anymore. the fact was, he wanted to get rid of the last loose end-- her. he couldn't quite bring himself to do it with the gun, so he'd poisoned her back when she'd still trusted him. it wasn't enough to finish her off and now he was keeping her prisoner because she knew too much and he couldn't kill her because a twisted part of him still loved her. that was what she'd pieced together, anyway. that was the only logical explanation she could make sense of.
"The bigger person doesn't sit in the floor, pouting, refusing to take the bed." Coryo corrected, this time busy thinking of what to tie her limbs with. He was next over by his bag once the idea appeared in his head, pulling out a pair of spare pants and a small knife, tearing the material into strips. "Yes, you are getting on the bed. It's the only way I know you'll stay put." he came back over to announce once he had enough, grabbing her yet again but this time underneath her knees and other arm wrapping around her back since her arms are crossed, placing her on top of the bed and quickly grabbing her left arm to pin it to the headboard so he can begin to tie her wrist to the metal rails. "If you didn't enjoy playing games, I wouldn't have to do this."

❝ the bigger person gives up comfort for the other, so yes i am being the bigger person, darlin'. ❞ she tried to get away, kicking and throwing hands as he tied her down. ❝ so now i'm even more of a prisoner. let me go, i don't want to be tied to the bed. i don't want to be near you. ❞ she almost uttered that she hated him but refrained only because she knew that he'd spiral or something. not that she cared if he did. did she ? . . . maybe a little. lucy gray hated how she still cared even a little about him. part of her may always love him, but she'd keep that locked deep down inside of her.

❝ i am, you’re just mad at the fact that i’m choosing to be the bigger person. ❞ lucy gray informed him before letting out a groan. ❝ put me down, coriolanus ! i’m not sleeping on that bed. ❞ she felt like a child refusing their bedtime or vegetables. ❝ no, because i’m sleeping on the floor. i’m being benevolent by givin’ up the bed, so stop trying to take my kind act away ! ❞ plus, if she slept on the floor, it would be easier to get up and leave. to escape her captor, because yes that’s what she thought of coriolanus now. he was holding her hostage and she was stuck. if things had maybe been different, maybe it would have been her own decision to stay, but she didn’t have a choice in the matter. lucy gray slunk back down to the floor, defiance in her eyes as she crossed her arms. she’d regret choosing the floor later, but right now she was being stubborn.
❝ don't start what ? i'm just letting you know that you can take the bed. i'm being nice. ❞ everything between them was seemingly an argument now. as he set her down on the bed, she crossed her arms. she slowly sunk down to the floor, making sure not not injure her ankle any more. ❝ i'm going to sleep now. goodnight, coriolanus. do not put me back on that bed. ❞ with that, she shut her eyes, sighing. it was uncomfortable, but she's slept in worse conditions.

❝ i think i read somewhere you only need, like, thirty minutes of sleep to be awake for ten hours. so ... okay i can't do the math, but it worked. ❞ at least she told herself it did as a yawn escaped. when they arrived and he parked, lucy gray slowly undid her seatbelt and reached to open her door, yawning again. ❝ do you think anybody would be mad if i skipped class so i can sleep ? ❞ she questioned. the olive skinned girl hadn't anticipated crashing this soon. maybe it would be different after getting food in her system, but right now she was exhausted. she just hoped he wouldn't judge her too badly for this. it wasn't typical she'd stayed up that late. not since the summer before college.
“Yeah, almost.” he chuckled, but then wondered how he would have felt towards the other person if he had been in her place. Just the idea of it made his mind melt into a dark rage, it was a terrible, disgusting, terrifying thought. Terrifying because how did he truly know Lucy Gray wouldn’t betray him in that way? What was he doing exactly…allowing himself to be so vulnerable. He kept asking himself that time and time again, but wasn’t doing anything to push her away before it was too late. “Two minutes? That must be like a super power, Lucy Gray?” Confusion knitted his brows, another chuckle sounding from him. “I’ll make it somehow.” he answered while concentrating on finding a place to park once the GPS signaled they’ve arrived.

A sigh immediately emitted from him, placing her down on the bed once he nudged the door shut behind him. “Don’t start, Lucy Gray.” If he knows her by now, it’s she’ll turn this into an hour long argument next. It sounded ridiculous where she cared where he slept anyway. “Why wouldn’t it be the other way around?” he questions as he steps back, assuming she’s probably doing it just to give more of a headache than she already has.

the silence was deafening as they returned to the cabin. she stayed quiet, heart racing as she looked to him for a moment. was he silent because he planned to harm her ? the thought crossed her mind a few times before she forced it away. no, he would have already. ❝ you can take the bed then, if i'm going to be forced to stay here. i'll sleep on the floor. ❞ stubbornness was all she had going for her at the moment, so she was going to stay that way, use it the best to her advantage. she wasn't going to be sharing a bed with him, and she most definitely wouldn't listen to him complain about sleeping on the floor.
❝ it's controlling because i don't want to be near you. can't you understand that ? you broke my trust and i'll never trust you again. ❞ she was pissed that he wasn't just letting her go. lucy gray hated that coriolanus just wouldn't let her be, she'd given him plenty of opportunities to leave and go back to the capitol while she stayed out here. maybe threatening to tell on him was detering him, but she was bluffing. she wouldn't actually unless he'd give her a reason to.
the brunette almost snarled at him as he grabbed her chin. his words had her glaring with more hatred than she'd ever looked at another person. ❝ the world isn't safe because you won't leave me alone. i'm safer without you trying to force me to stay with you. just go back to the capitol. i won't tell anybody, just-- stay away from me. ❞ as he picked her back up, the fight in her had died out. her ankle was hurt, so she couldn't get away anyway. plus, she wasn't sure how far she'd be able to get without stopping due to lack of air.
