The most wonderful thing about life is that you can always begin again. No matter what ups and downs you are handed in life today, you can always begin again tomorrow.

I wish someone had said, it’s never going to be good enough, so just release it. I turned in [the book manuscript] in September 2020, and it didn’t come out until. 2021, and I spent that whole year crying. I know every sentence that’s a mistake. I know every page that I wish I ripped out that I kept. It’s never enough. You just need to accept it to enjoy the process.

I’ve found that when I hit a writer’s block…, sometimes you just have to open up your eyes and ears to the world around you to see what tumbles your way.

A lot of nature writing and nature TV – it makes people seem like experts because they’ve been able to go and look something up.

WEDNESDAY'S WEEKLY POETRY PROMPTS: 9/18/24 ~ BACK TO THE BASICS
BACK TO THE BASICS © 2024 - G. Smith (BMI) ==================== We had it all, Or something close to it, And I couldn’t believe, You were planning to do it. Planning to toss it, To pitch it and run, To say you were finished, To say you were done.
To pack up your bags, And walk out the door, For reasons you never, Shared with me before. To drive down the street, Without looking back, Without saying a word, About things that you lacked.
So you can go your own way, Try to reinvent the wheel, And find the nugget of truth, In the way that you feel; Or get back to the basics, Of what you know is real, Or go your own way, And try to reinvent the wheel.
Will you make it to Dallas? Will you make it Rome? Will you make it Luckenbach, Before turning back home? Will you make Amarillo? By morning, Abilene? How far will you go, Till you know what I mean?
So you can go your own way, Try to reinvent the wheel, And find the nugget of truth, In the way that you feel; Or get back to the basics, Of the love you know is real; Or go your own way, And try to reinvent the wheel.

WEDNESDAY'S WEEKLY POETRY PROMPTS: 9/18/24
Here we go again...
From Robert Lee Brewer/Poetic Asides: BACK TO _________
Take the phrase "Back to (blank),"
replace the blank with a new word or phrase,
make the new phrase the title of your poem,
and then, write your poem.
Possible titles might include:
"Back to School,"
"Back to Life,"
"Back to Doing the Same Old Thing,"
"Back to Back,"
and/or "Back to Coming Up With a Title to a Poem (and Then Writing a Poem)."
Randomly from the Sherwin-Williams palette: NUGGET
And from Charlotte Rains Dixon's month of prompts: YOU CAN GO YOUR OWN WAY (how Fleetwood Mac...)
Remember:
These prompts are springboards to creativity.
Use them to expand your possibilities, not limit them.

WEDNESDAY'S WEEKLY POETRY PROMPTS: 9/11/24 ~ DIDN'T I SEE IT COMING?
DIDN’T I SEE IT COMING? © 2024 - G. Smith (BMI) ==================== Friday’s back in high school, Pep rally starts the day, Couldn’t wait for class to let out later, So we’d come back to watch ‘em play.
Didn’t have a very big team, And we didn’t win ‘em all; But we didn’t lose homecoming, The biggest game of all.
Nervous, I asked Katie, If I could take her to the dance. The cutest girl in my small town world, Didn’t think I had a chance.
But she surprised with her, “Sure!” I couldn’t believe my luck, I held her hand as she and her gown, Climbed in my pick-up truck.
Didn’t I see it coming? Didn’t I have a clue? Didn’t I know what I should’ve known, That dreams sometimes come true, come true, Dreams sometimes come true.
We had a wonderful year together, Movies and running about; Dinner at the Jade Dragon, Or the Dairy Queen when we’d go out.
Next thing we knew it was graduation, And we sat in the Waffle House parking lot, Watching the sun come up on tomorrow, Thankful for what we’d got.
Didn’t we see it coming? Didn’t we have a clue? Didn’t we know what we should’ve known? That dreams sometimes come true, come true, Dreams sometimes come true.
Katie went off to Valdosta, I struggled through math at Tech. We tried keeping in touch but that was so tough, And we ended up a relational wreck.
I guess we didn’t see it coming. We sure didn’t have a clue. How could we not know what we should’ve known; That dreams don’t always come true, come true. Dreams don’t always come true. Sometimes they do, A time or two, But not all dreams come true.

The secret of creative work is to make a lot and publish a little.  Don't underestimate the power of giving yourself permission to create junk. Most of what you create will be mediocre or bad.  But that's okay. You only have to show people the good stuff. Make 100 things, discard 90, and share the 10 best. Create, create, create. Edit, edit, edit.
~ James Clear
