Iโve always said that Sonic and Spider-Man have a lot in common thematically, and Prime season 3 really gave him that classic Spider-Man โI can do both!โ dilemma.

I love how different Sonic Frontiers felt compared to literally every other game in the series. However, something I feel was missing from the near-perfect controls for Sonic was the ability to boost through enemies. I get that the "boost formula" seems to be a thing of the past now, and the "open zone formula" is the future, but being able to crash through enemies at sonic speeds really builds on the feel of being Sonic. To me, it seems like this is a pretty easy thing to do: Supplement the Max Boost mechanic with the new ability to damage enemies. When you max your Ring count (or Speed stat) the boost is faster and deals damage to enemies you run past/through, equivalent to a standard Homing Attack. This does several things, one of which is further incentivizing the collection of rings in order to use the max boost (which in turn leads players to follow where rings are leading, and can promote exploration in a well-designed open zone). It also gives players a reason to further upgrade the Attack stat. You can play through a game like Frontiers with mid-tier attack perfectly fine, maybe even finishing with a level in the 70s-80s. However, if you want your boost to one-hit enemies, you need to upgrade the damage your standard Homing Attack does, and in turn, the Attack stat. Maybe this could also promote Defense upgrades, since if your boost runs out, you'll be hitting an opponent at max speed.
Anyways, I think this is a pretty neat and easy way to bring back what has become a staple of Modern Sonic in a new and interesting way. Hopefully Sonic Team does some fun things with the next open zone game. It feels nice to be excited and optimistic about the future of Sonic!
