The Pain Glove.  Agony brings a kind of meditative relief to Dorn’s senses, and his captains have sometimes found him having spent several hours wrapped in the device, sweating away the latest aches and worries.

Stillness, staring contests, and overall just waiting.  Most of the primarchs love to brag about how awesome they are at close combat, or building stuff, or art forms or whatever, but if you sat them down in a chair and told them to sit still, they’d explode.  Primarchs are almost by necessity type-A personalities, and with little exception are quite used to getting their own way.  Dorn could - and would - stand stock-still atop a frozen crag for a week if it meant the opportunity to catch an opponent by surprise.

Grouch as fuck.  Add to that he probably hasn’t had enough sleep because he’s fuckin busy, which means he hasn’t had a chance to shave either, and you have giant raging muscle Santa on your hands.

Recaf.  Dorn got a taste for the ubiquitous beverage on Terra and Necromunda.  Do not sample Dorn’s recaf under any circumstances - there is almost universally some manner of toxic compound in there to give it an extra kick.

how they like to comfort/care for themselves when they’re in a slump

Designing.  When campaigns are rushed, Crusade architects will sometimes just go to the Phalanx’s drafting room and pull out something that look appropriate to the current needs - the files are stuffed full of hundreds of building designs up to and including fully laid-out cities.

what they wanted to be when they grew up

Dorn is what he wanted to be when he grew up - a man ushering in a new age of glory for humanity.  He’s not the Emperor of Inwit anymore, but that’s neither here nor there; what defines a man is not his title, but what he does.

Cold, clear mornings.

Dorn has a very deep bass voice, and his speaking tone is very gruff, so when he sings, watch out things are going to be shaking

how/what they like to draw or doodle

Dorn is a natural drafter and designs everything from spaceships to hab-blocks.  However he is also known to paint landscapes and people on occasion for entertainment as opposed to busywork.  A nearly photo-realistic portrait of his adpotive grandfather & grandmother backed by the mountains hangs in a place of honor in the palace of Inwit to this day, while Fulgrim owns an impressionist painting of himself in a shipboard gallery - at first nobody believes him when he says it was made by Rogal Dorn (as thanks for Fulgrim’s support in establishing the Remembrancer Order).

I just finished reading Fulgrim. The 6th book of the Horus Heresy

I already knew it was going to be one of those stories, the kind where everything goes horribly wrong and only gets worse.

What I didn’t expect was how personally it would hit me.

Not to overshare, but the voice Fulgrim hears? It reminded me of my worst moments with cocaine addiction.

That voice that sometimes lifts you up, sometimes convinces you that everyone else is wrong and only you see the truth and sometimes it tells you exactly what you want to hear just so you can keep hurting others and yourself, just to inhale again. And again.

The ending, when he kills his brother Ferrus…

It’s like when you hit rock bottom and think surely it can’t get worse... but instead of taking responsibility, you make an even worse decision.

And then you find a deeper bottom, and start to realize that maybe… there is no way out. Maybe all you can do now is sink.

People will say the voice should’ve been ignored. But that voice is you. And it isn’t.

Addiction clouds your mind, but it doesn’t erase accountability.

Just like Chaos with Fulgrim — it’s an influence, not an excuse.

Back to the book though… hahaha does Horus really think he can handle this??

He sees what Chaos did to his brother and still makes a deal because it suits him. I know that he promises to help Fulgrim “when he can” and that’s just… chilling.

Brilliant book. Brutal. I loved it.

Departure prep, "The Eye"

I'm at hobbying again! Finally! Here are my Works in Progress.

I started a few projects simultaneously, because there was a lot of room on the stick I use for priming. So here are a few little guys primed and zenithaled and ready for some cool gradients! I love painting gradients.

First - a Sloppity Bilepiper and his happy Little Lord. Age of Sigmar - but I don't care. I think AoS Nurgle-minis are amongst the prettiest GW ever did.

Second - Lucius! Pretty face, pretty lash, pretty hooves. The whole bundle of beautiful!

Third - George the Grave Warden Bone Guard (this month's Mini of the Month)cand his base-extravaganza. As can be seen, I am planning on painting a glowy ritual circle lighting George from below. Some OSL, of course. Let's see how this plays out. Go big or go home!

Keep in mind: I am still a miniature painting noob. I have painted about 60 miniatures so far and am returning from half a year involuntary hiatus. So I am a noob AND rusty. Great combination. 😁
