MOVING ON UP, MOVING ON OUT Opening: Friday 3 February, 6-9pm Exhibition: 4 February – 4 March Moving on up, Moving on out is The NewBridge Project’s last ever show in our current building. The month-long exhibition and programme has artists at its heart, and has been collectively shaped and devised by over 30 artist members. In April, we bid farewell to our current building after 6 and a half years, and are moving on to pastures new. Moving on up, Moving on out will be a celebration of The NewBridge Project and the people who make it what it is. The exhibition in the project space has work by over 80 artist members, and will be constantly fluctuating, with the space being re-curated daily into something new, by artists residing in the communal workspace situated in the gallery daily. The bookshop will host an evolving studio plan, mapping the friendships, networks and connections of members, to artists and organisations across the country. This will act as an archive as well as a look to the future. Alongside the exhibition there will be a programme of events taking place across the building and studios throughout the month, with our artists contributing to an exciting series of screenings, socials, open studios and performances. Nester Trail Set Up - Call for Volunteers
NEST
An Art Project by Sophie Foster
Nester Trail Set Up - Call for Volunteers
Saturday 27th April 2013
Nest is a project that will build on from the Jesmond Dene Nature Area and the recently installed Trail Cameras that are currently fixed to certain nest boxes and bird feeding areas. The main aim is to capture the bird’s nest building, documenting their homing instincts from them choosing their materials to using the nest to rear their young.
As part of the on-going project, I intend to create a trail that visitors can follow around the Dene. A map will be created with 'hot spots' where people can view the different nesters that have been placed in nearby trees. The aim is to not only provide a variety of locations for the birds to forage from, but to create a series of contemporary art pieces. They will provide an interesting focal point and allow people to follow the project and witness birds using them for themselves. The nesters will also be examined over a series of months through a range of hidden cameras.
For individuals who would like to work alongside this project, there is help needed to fill nesters with nesting material as well as hang them in various locations around Jesmond Dene. This is a chance to be involved in the more creative side of the project, from making the nesters to being involved in the arrangement and delegation of the trail route.
The trail set up will start on Saturday 27th April so if you would like to get involved please email: [email protected]

NEST - Call for Volunteers
NEST
An Art Project by Sophie Foster
April 2013

Nest is a project that will build on from the Jesmond Dene Nature Area and the recently installed Trail Cameras that are currently fixed to certain nest boxes and bird feeding areas. The main aim is to capture the bird’s nest building, documenting their homing instincts from them choosing their materials to using the nest to rear their young. From analysing abandoned nests, I became increasingly aware of the many manmade materials that the birds had chosen to use for themselves. Therefore I am gradually leaving certain used manmade materials outside with the intention that the birds will incorporate them into their nest building. The process will be examined over a series of months through film, photography and a series of drawings.
We are looking for a range of individuals who would like to work alongside this project, especially in the film and documentation area, with the opportunity to create mini films that can be exhibited or added to the NEST and Jesmond Dene Blogs. There is also the opportunity to join extensive art workshops and discussions with the chance to create a range of work running from the creative themes and influences within this project .
