Final Prototype
After receiving the feedback from our heuristic testing, I set to work to make some improvements to the prototype.
> To make the text easier to read on the food bank page I added a green box behind it and used shadow on the font.
> I added a speaker icon that will allow those who are hard of seeing or are unable to read to hear the text on the screen.
> I also added a return button so you can go back to a page.
> I also altered the colour scheme slightly so the text stood out and the design was more cohesive.

Heuristic Testing
In your opinion, could we make any improvements to the app?

Hi-Fi Sitemap & Wireframes
As my app is targeting those from variety of people who may have fallen on hard times, I wanted to ensure it was simple and easy to understand no matter your education level or background. My focus to make it easy to use and accessible for all, therefore I went for a relatively paired back sitemap.
Based off the lo-fi prototype I was able to transfer my idea digitally quite easily. In my original wireframe I had used a search results page as well as a map. To streamline the user journey, I later removed this page from my prototype and designed it so you were able to access each foodbank landing page from the map itself.

Why We Prototype & My Idea
Why Do We Prototype
A prototype is an early working model of a design that can be used to gain valuable feedback and experiment with ideas. They can come in the form of sketches, wireframes and mockups. Prototypes can be used to test out design concepts, refine the usability of the product, and as a communication tool that you can use to show members of your project team.
Building products is expensive so prototyping it helps to eliminate the risk of investing in a product that doesn't resonate with users or isn’t easy to use.
Prototyping also helps designers’ sort through design concepts and can be used as a factor to generate customer feedback which then allows you to build and improve upon your design. Getting early feedback on a design helps shape the direction of the product. Protypes can also assist in usability within a design.
App Idea
Currently there is only two kinds of directory apps to aid those in need finding nearby foodbanks; Trussel Trust, which requires foobanks must pay to be part of their network, or a foodbank app which also profits by charging foodbanks to advertise.
This means those in poor socioeconomic situations are forced to travel often further to find nearby foodbanks as small grassroots organisation and smaller charities such as Emmaus Salford’s Lucies Pantry, a social supermarket, are far less easy to find when searching for the closest foodbank to you. This led me to develop Foodbank Finder an app that allows foodbanks to advertise their charities for free while also letting the disadvantaged find foodbanks near them.

Storytelling Website Ideas

For my storytelling website I decided to choose an unsolved murder mystery story. Nicknamed ‘the Black Dahlia,’ Elizabeth Short, an aspiring actress, was brutally murdered in Los Angeles, California. Her body was found on January 15, 1947, in a vacant lot near Leimert Park.
The website will guide you through the crime story from the hours up til her murder to the aftermath of her death.

Reflective Report

Component 1: A personal presentation
I began by outlining and creating graphics of countries from a map. I then added in my photos, using a Photoshop brush tool to create the appearance that the imagery was sellotaped to the poster. I wanted to theme my design around maps, scrap-booking and craft to give it a DIY-feel that anyone of all ages and statuses can relate too. I also used stamps to create small illustrations that would relate to the location. For text I made sure I used a image of torn paper to further the torn up and homemade look and typewriter-style text. I also used a range of brushes to create texture and have the map background look more realistic.
If I could improve upon my poster I would spend a little more time adding detail to each graphic of the country, and would of maybe made room for more text.
Component 2: Information in Motion
For the video I took inspiration from Draw My Life videos. Draw My Life is a type of Internet video in which the author narrates their life history, set to a fast-motion video of the author drawing illustrations on a whiteboard of key figures and events in their life.
To create my video I filmed myself drawing various designs on a whiteboard. I also separately recorded a voice over. Once I finished my filming and the voice over had been recorded I set up putting it all together and editing. I used Premier Pro to edit sound quality, sharpness, saturation and video quality. I also switched between hand written text and digital text. I also included imagery to maintain a similar design to the first component.
If I could improve upon the video I would of used lighting equipment to correctly light up the medium was using to draw on. I would of also of used paper as a medium rather than a whiteboard as I found it difficult to sketch efficiently and as properly as possible on a vertical plain.

Sketching Initial Ideas
My first draft was organised by timeline however I later realised that organising my data set by location was far superior, leading to the creation of my second draft.
It was important that the data was easy to decipher and was clear and concise with a interesting design that would catch people’s attention. I wanted something that had substance and spoke to the reader while also creating a visual identity.

Beginning to Form Ideas
The initial part of the project was to design a poster that would translate data in an accessible, easy to read format. When looking at ideas for my poster I found it quite hard. Many topics I could carry out accurately were quite personal such as mental health. After some research into infographics and various ways of presenting data I decided my poster would display every country or small island I have been to. The imagery I had took while travelling being the data and the means of communication being a digitally created poster.

Week 6: 3D Scanning & Printing
3D scanning is the process of collecting data from a real world object or environment via it’s shape and appearance. This data can then be used to create a digital 3D model which can then be printed.
