Andy Warhol was the most successful and highly paid commercial illustrator. His most famous work being screenprinted images of Marilyn Monroe, soup cans, and sensational newspaper stories, which quickly became synonymous with Pop art. Warhol was an extremely successful consumer ad designer. He used the techniques of his trade to create an image that is both easily recognizable, but also visually stimulating. I particularly like this image of a Campbells soup can portraying the abundance of food in well stocked supermarkets. Each of his prints are colourful bold designs with different meanings behind each of them.

Beatrix potter is an illustrator that I have grown up with, her illustrations tell stories of her pet animals, her most famous were her two pet rabbits. She was a botanist, artist and storyteller. Whilst visiting the exhibition of her work in perth, it was interesting to see her first ever developments of her illustrations. Her drawings were simple yet effective in creating different personalities for each of her characters. Her stories are known world wide, and visiting the exhibition and seeing her original work was very inspiring.

James Pfaff's work is chiefly concerned with the documentation and reconstruction of the artist's own life and the outside world, a subjective essay on the human condition. Using a multidisciplinary approach and drawing on his extensive photographic archive and personal journals he expresses himself principally through the medium of photography, the rhythm and diversity of the works reflecting his life and art. Whilst visiting an exhibition of his work, I could follow his journey of love as it broke down through his relationship. He captured the raw intensity of emotions with photography and neon signs.

Jenny Holzer is a neo-conceptual artist, the main focus of her work is the delivery of words and ideas in public places. Her work asks us to consider the words and messages that surround us. Her art takes many forms, including signs, posters, paintings, plaques, textiles, projections and stone benches. Words are central to her work, she displays them with flickering neon signs, carvings in granite to stitching in wool. Her words/texts are forceful and simple, often contradicting one another. I find her work interesting as it is eye-catching and lyrical, she invites us to read and interpret for ourselves.
