The Kings men, chapter four

Okay i'm literally shaking posting this, i've been working on it for days i lost all objectivity about it.

Someone requested this scene when I asked for recommendations on an older post, so this is tkm chapter four:

"Andrew sprawled on the couch in the lounge while Kevin went ahead to change out. Neil hesitated, changed his mind and started after Kevin, and changed his mind again. He stood behind the couch, folding his arms across the back of it, and peered down at Andrew. Andrew had one arm folded under his head and the other draped over his eyes to block the light. 'One of these days you might as well practice with us,' Neil said."

This scene is so long I had to cut some parts (including the incredible "You let us run ourselves into the ground and clean up behind us. You play the game like you play life. That's why you're so good at it.").

Not to mention Andrew's height fear, one of my all-time favorite aftg quotes ("When you said you were afraid of heights, you were joking, right?" "Andrew, you can't be. What were you doing on the roof?" "Feeling." -tkm ch.5).

Update: I cut the (too long) comic into smaller images so that you can open it and have a better quality, hope it works!

So in sports, it's possible for particularly skilled players to pull off unprecedented moves such that the entire sport's rulebook has to be updated to accommodate.

A player pulls some ridiculous move and everyone is in a flurry of "is this allowed?? Does this count?? Should we make this an illegal move??? Should it be a legal move??? What do we do about this, hurry before other players try to copy him!"

I'm aware of it happening once for basketball (though I don't recall the specific game changing event).

Anyway, Andrew Joseph Minyard is the first goalie to score a point for his team. Someone tries to score on him and he shoots that shit all the way into the other goalies zone and that shit lights up red. The game practically stops moving, the crowd is quiet for all of two heart beats before everyone fucking loses their shit. The stadium is shaking so hard might as well register as a small earthquake. Rulebook gets consulted expeditiously. Due to it not being referenced at all as a possibility, it's not technically an illegal move. Andrew's point stands.

They make that shit illegal thereafter, though. Making Andrew not only the first goalie to score a point across the field, but the last.

It puts him in the hall of fame.

It also gets him laid.

Hey sorry your boyfriend got kidnapped by his mob boss dad. Yeah when he said thank you back there he meant thanks for everything you’ve done for him, that was his goodbye because he’s going to die. No yeah he was in love with you, that’s what all the looks meant. Anyway. He’ll think of you kissing him when he’s being tortured by his father’s people as an escape. No I totally get why you might want to burn the world until you find him. Yeah yeah maybe start with choking your teammate for answers. Sorry again.

i still think its hilarious how neil went 'kevin and i talk about your intricate and endless daddy issues all the time' because they literally never do. he just made that up and dragged kevin under the bus as well for no fucking reason other than to be dramatic.

that part in the book when andrew gets back from the easthaven and there’s a moment when neil’s back pressed on andrew’s chest and neil thinks that he can finally breathe for the first time in weeks. yeah. can’t stop thinking about that

obsessed with neil josten as a reliable but negligent narrator. everything he tells you is true and necessary and important but he fails to tell you other basic things that maybe aren't absolutely necessary but would be pretty fucking nice to know. like we know the intimate details of his traumatic past that he keeps secret from everyone else but we have don't know his real name or what he even looks like. insane. narrator of all time.
