22 : tiredly resting their head on my muse’s shoulder 

     exhaustion scores them all , marked in dirt smudges, darkened eyes. sleep does not come easy, not even here. not with coughs and snores and tears surrounding them, not when every sound seems like to be their end. 

     she has lost track of time, tried at first - - cannot. does not care to. what use, after all, are names of days? hands on a clock? knows only she is here, knows only what she must do when she must do it, knows friends’ soft murmurs, the radio’s crackle. now she sits against a wall, fingers ‘curled round a cup of water, eyes closed though she does not sleep. legs stretched out in front of her, crossed over at the ankle, cup and hands at rest upon her leg. feels susan’s presence before head’s weight falls upon her shoulder. 

    one eye opens, closes again with the slightest smile - - her own head tips to rest against her friend’s. “do you remember what it feels like, to sleep? to REALLY sleep? with dreams and everything? i think i’ve forgotten.”

white raspberry truffle : a weakness headcanon 

on a non-serious note, hannah 100% ha a weakness for sweets, and the sweeter the better. she can’t stand bitter tastes, including plain black tea or coffee, even just dark chocolate. she has to add milk and sugar to her tea, she puts honey on her toast, and probably her fondness for sweet things has a hand in her love of baking. 

she also has a weakness for all things cute?? like if she’s in the right mood, the girl will 100% cry over a cute puppy. 

on a MORE serious note, hannah doesn’t do well in transfiguration or in any type of spell that requires any sort of deep confidence in her own abilities (i.e. the patronus charm. she also struggles with apparition for rather longer than many of her peers). when it comes to protective spells, or when someone else is depending on the success of the spell, she can usually make it work. but if it’s entirely reliant on her own ability? she will likely become too self conscious and too nervous to truly perform the spell.

13. Forehead kiss!

     when she wakes, all is warmth and quiet - - not a sound but flickering fire, the far-off ticking of a clock, the rush of steady breath and beat of heart beneath her ear, where it rests upon his chest. blinking as she wakes, soft eyes see first the fire’s glow, the shadows of the furniture, blink again to adjust to light gone dim. stirring, sleepy head lifts - - just a little, just enough to turn face up toward him, to whisper “hi” as eyes meet hers. smiles as a kiss aimed for her forehead lands with utmost gentleness, closes her eyes with a little happy hum, does not move til lips lift again, til she turns her eyes back toward his, lifts a hand to touch his jaw with fingertips. “i’m sorry - - i didn’t mean to fall asleep on you.” 

(but it had been a long day, started early - - finished late. still, she’d wanted to spend time with him, not fall asleep for...for how long? ) 

     “how long have i been sleeping?” it must be proper night by now, the quality of light and shadow seems too deep for twilight. yet she does not move, does not wish to move, could easily stay here forever, curled beneath his arm. nowhere else feels quite so warm, so safe, her own small room above the leaky cauldron much too empty, much too still. (at least she hadn’t found herself trapped in some nightmare, hadn’t thrashed or screamed or seen beneath her sleeping eyes those nightmare-visions that now plague her, the worst to do with him - - the worst when he is swallowed up in bright green late, else injured so badly she cannot revive him.) 

      “i should go home.” ( yet there is reluctance beneath soft words, and she does not stand - - only cuddles closer, wraps her arm around him, tucks her head against his chest again,)

cookies & cream: a family headcanon 

hannah is an only child, despite the fact that she had ALWAYS wanted brothers and sisters. it seemed to be the one thing her parents wouldn’t give her. they were both avid travelers, both very busy people, and one child was all they ever planned on having. hannah was the light of their world, the love of their lives, but they had never planned on having more than one child. maybe it was for this reason that hannah loved her AMERICAN COUSINS so much, her mother’ family. her mother had an older brother and a younger sister, both of whom married and had multiple children. hannah’s uncle john and aunt marie had four children, while her aunt christine and uncle joe had three. hannah visited them all fairly regularly, either during the summers or over christmas, depending on the year. her cousins were like the siblings she never had. they’re louder and bolder than she is, mostly, but she loves that they are. in their company she’s just a little louder - - just a little wilder - - than usual.

both of hannah’s parents are remarkable people, both incredibly interesting in their own right. her mother was brilliant and beautiful and charming, her father suave, handsome, a masterful negotiator. they had both traveled the world, seen and done amazing things. they became highly successful in their careers, and were roundly respected by those that knew them. and then there was hannah. sweet, round-faced hannah. a pretty baby, but not striking, she would never become a striking beauty. she fumbled her way through transfiguration. she never showed any of the same signs of brilliance as her parents, and though they never pressured her into finding ways to match their brilliance, she always felt something of an outside pressure. (sometimes she felt they deserved a child more like them, a girl with her mother’s beauty and confidence, or a son, brilliant at spellwork, who could follow her father’s footsteps). it made her anxious about anything based on performance, including marks and exams. she has what her mother fondly called “a nervous streak” to begin with, but this idea of expectations, of wanting to be good enough, wanting to avoid the disappointed look in her father’s eyes she’d catch in unguarded moments (when she couldn’t quite get an answer, when her marks dipped just a little) caused the sort of extreme test anxiety that multiplied a ferret into pigeons and once sent her to the hospital wing.
