His reputation? Sure enough, her father only did mention how good Gen is in terms of martial arts. Was there something more to him? Of course, it didn’t matter to Fai. Right now, she really want to be trained by him.
“All I know about you is you’re good in terms of martial arts. That’s about it. I’m willing to learn more! If I am not worthy then I would like to know how should I prove myself? If I need to endure hardships, I shall do it!”
Tumblr media
This girl was a naive fool. Yet... So strong-willed. There had to be a reason why she wanted to learn under him, to become stronger. What possible reason would someone as young as her have to undertake even the most grueling training under someone as stubborn as the old assassin? The source of such determination was interesting to Gen.
“Prove to me, that you are worthy. There are two things you have to do for that. And remember, once you go on this path, you can’t go back. Training under me is not anything to take lightly, child! I’m warning you, this is your last chance to turn back.”

Just his luck. Gen just wanted to enjoy a normal, peaceful day. A nice, normal walk. But of course nothing could go his way, Some would call it karma, perhaps. But he didn’t believe in that nonsense. “You red buffoon.” the old man muttered under his breath, as the Turk’s frantic screaming had attracted the attention of a police officer.
Tumblr media
“Appearances can be deceiving. Someone of your profession should be familiar with that concept, no? Assumptions will get you killed in the field, officer.” the ex-assassin mused out loud, smirking a slight bit. It wasn’t the smartest idea to mess with the law, especially given his past. But he couldn’t help but try to school those who went around making false assumptions.
“Pay no attention to that man. He doesn’t listen to logic or reason. He didn’t care.” Gen sighed. That Turk had made his day a lot harder. If it came to that, he would fight. But preferred not fighting.
“Or do you need to question me?”

Lights flickered, the poorly signaled radio was playing static-filled music, and Gordon lay back in his office chair, munching away at a few doughnuts, sighing. He’s never had a slow day before, and unlike the usual Policeman who would be relieved that no one was causing crime, Gordon CRAVED action, the thrill of catching a criminal!! But today, it appeared that the most action he would get was swatting a wandering fly.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a ring came from the front room. Excitement rushed through the man’s body as he frantically scrambled to answer the telephone. But, the excitement quickly turned into disappointment when Gordon learned that it was just his daughter calling from Kindergarten to come and get her. It was two-thirty, wasn’t it?
Gordon never took his work car to pick up his daughter, too many kids would get distracted and not let him leave, so instead the burly man walked through the neighborhood, with his trusty tonfa at his side. As he walked through the peaceful park, a rather loud scream was heard within the distance. The shout was directed towards the police! After adjusting his hat and equipping his tonfa, Gordon rushed to see what was going on.
As he ran towards where the scream was, a particularly red skinned man passed him, nervously bellowing about some assassin following him. Before Gordon could ask who he was, the man was gone. Turning towards his left, the cop was disappointed to see an elderly man by his lonesome. With a sigh, Gordon approached this man. So much for an assassin.
Tumblr media
“ ‘scuse me old timer but, do you know what that man was screamin’ about? He said somethin’ about an assassin but, I couldn’t hear through all his blubberin’.“

“You wish to learn under me?” Gen couldn’t help but shoot her a cold glare. Yes, she was only a child, perhaps she didn’t know about his other occupation. But if she did, and was still interested in being under his tutelage. “Are you sure that you know what you are asking of me? You do know of my reputation and of what I do? Or perhaps you are unaware?” the old master spoke, standing taller then before, perhaps even seeming more ominous. His blank eyes did that to some people.
“Answer me, child. Would you have the intent and will to survive under the most grueling martial arts training that you can imagine?”
“I’m sorry. I’ll get straight to the point then.” She clears her throat, a bit nervous to speak on what’s on her mind, or her wishes.
“I would like you to teach me a thing or two, Master Gen!” She bows all of a sudden as she speak. “I don’t know how would I pay you for teaching me but that can be discussed afterwards. My Father’s stories inspire me a lot to train!"

Gen couldn’t help but smirk the slightest bit. So, this Masters kid actually did have a deeper reason then he had first thought. For one of the first times, the old master might have to reconsider his opinion of someone. “Most intriguing indeed, boy. So, you think that by learning what takes lives, you can learn how to protect them?”
Tumblr media
Indeed, that was a very good point, and Gen somewhat lived by a similar code. “So, what is it that you think I can teach you? If you want to be my student, you have to learn how to be ruthless and cold when necessary. A future fight may come down to that, if you would be willing to take a life for the greater good, or for your own survival. Would you be able to carry that kind of weight on your shoulders?”

“And you would be right to assume it, in a way.” Although he hadn’t specifically been betrayed by anyone, let alone anyone close to him, it somewhat felt like that, whenever he would see old colleagues hired to kill him. It was nothing personal, not at all. In fact, it was the sad truth for a retired contract killer. Especially if you were considered a nuisance like Gen was, even though he had tried to live a peaceful life. To an outsider, it would seem like a trail of blood was following the old man, much like a curse.
Tumblr media
“And I presume that you have felt the sharp, cold steel of betrayal, much like a dagger plunged into unprotected flesh. Or am I wrong?”
Lars had been on both sides of the spectrum, so he definitely agreed with the elder’s words.
A movie star had apparently visited this restaurant as well. Lars had no idea that it had received that sort of traffic; he was right about assuming the worst in people, especially in his position. He had already experienced the feeling of having someone he considered a friend turning on him, even if it was against her will. Lars pressed his tongue against his molar at the thought of the unpleasant memory.
Tumblr media
“I agree…” He expressed his thoughts aloud.
“People only talk that way when they’ve already experienced that sort of betrayal, I find…”

They really should send more competent assailants to attack him, if they really wanted to get rid of the old man so badly. Did they really think that age and his sickness had worn him down so much? Made his skills dull? Those fools. Perhaps he should teach them a lesson as well. But Gen was above being that petty, If they really wanted him to cull these low ranking cannon fodder, then so be it. He had done enough in his lifetime to be dragged down into whatever kind of place fools like him go to, where he would be confronted by the spirits of those who had not bested him.
The crimson that flooded the floor around him wasn’t only from his enemies, but himself as well, not only because of his disease, but because his techniques really weren’t meant for groups, a few of them managed to get a hit or two in, something that wasn’t good for his frailty-ridden body. He wouldn’t allow himself to falter though, he was already one foot in the grave, the old assassin wouldn’t half-ass anything: if tonight really was supposed to be his time then so be it.
The more and more he struck though, the less and less of the shadowy forces were left, leaving him standing (as he thought) alone, before finally letting his body take in all the punishment that had been dished out to it, collapsing in a cough. But, of course, his moment of weakness had to be seen by someone.
Tumblr media
Taking his breath shakily, Gen thought of what insult to fling at the pig-headed movie star. After all, Fei Long had completely ignored his simple request. But he couldn’t really force words out of his throat right now, the taste of blood overtook that urge. He had to settle for just trying his best to do a death glare.
Tumblr media
He knew he wouldn’t have to worry about Gen. The old man was a well-seasoned fighter…but there was only so much a man could do.
He watched in awe as one enemy after the other fell.
Blood was splattered all over the roof. He hid behind the wall, heart beating faster and faster, he was frozen to the floor.
Frozen in terror.
Though Gen was formidable…to think…what if he became an enemy?
A shudder of the thought…
Or worse…what if he went too far?
Coughing broke the silence, and it caused Fei-Long to look up from his thoughts.
And suddenly, Gen turned and looked right into his eyes before falling to the floor.
“Master Gen!” he shouted, racing after the fallen man.

“That is a smart move, I’d say. It’s best to work from the shadows and get no praise for the good you do then to be lauded as a hero but also painted as a villain in the narratives of your enemies.”
Tumblr media
For someone so seemingly young, this foreigner held a surprising amount of knowledge, something that Gen could respect. He had met so many young fighters who were all about getting their name and achievements out there, a few who he had even crossed attacks with.
“Not specifically wary, a lot of martial artists who I know visit this place, even a movie star. A bit of precaution goes a long way, as I’m sure you know. It’s better to presume the worst of people and be prepared then to always assume the best and be backstabbed. It comes with my trade I suppose.” It still wouldn’t be smart to just blurt out that he used to be an assassin in his younger days, that could still lead to some, misunderstandings.
“Ah…” Lars could agree that his prowess was usually found in martial artists much older than he was. His circumstances were different however, thanks to his father.
It was no surprised that Gen didn’t recognize his face, “I try not to advertise my capabilities.” Lars shared.
Tumblr media
Had others come to this older man with ill intentions?
“I assure you, my motivation for coming here was to have lunch,” but now lunch was an after-thought, “may I ask why you are wary of visitors who are martial artists?”

“Indeed it does. There are few who possess these qualities I am not familiar with.” Gen mentioned, stopping by the swede with the somewhat strange hairstyle. “That comes with being part of the older generation of fighters I suppose.”
Tumblr media
“But you are an unfamiliar face. There could be a plethora of reasons behind that, only one of these would lead to a more, violent outcome.” the old man mused, sitting so that he would face Lars. “I have no reason to doubt your intentions, most assailants have been more stealthy.”
Hunger was what led Lars to the restaurant, just like any other patron. He wasn’t at all aware that it was owned by a master martial artist, at least, not until he was approached by him.
He was a much older man, eyes ivory like the beard upon his chin. He implied that Lars possessed the spirit of a warrior, causing the soldier to set down his chopsticks.
Tumblr media
Lars got a good look at the other man, pausing before answering, “I was passing by when lunch seemed appealing,” he answered honestly, “…but you mentioned that I have the spirit of a warrior, does that interest you?”

Gen was prepared for a fight, smirking a slight bit under his gray beard, as he beckoned for the Spanish ninja to lunge at him.
Tumblr media
“Let’s see if that claw of yours is all-show or if it can actually scratch me with it!” Gen taunted, taking his Mantis stance, turning off all unnecessary thoughts. He just had to pinpoint the other assassin’s weak points and take aim. Then perhaps, he could show this egotistical fool his place. Experience was an invaluable asset, but the old martial artist had to be careful to not rely on it too much, lest he want to lie on it like a crutch.
Tumblr media
“Putting you out of your misery would be a far better option,” Vega replied, raising his claws as they gleamed menacingly in the moonlight. “If you want to fight, so be it. By the time this is over, you will be begging me for a merciful death.”
Readying himself into a fighting stance, he is more than ready to kill the former assassin. As Gen’s appearance wasn’t revolting enough to the matador, he also became soft…and weak. Emotional attachments should not matter to a killer.

❝ Now come, shall I make you famous? ❞
“I don’t need to ride on your coattails to be famous, criminal. I am infamous in my own right. If anything, you should consider yourself lucky that I have found you worthy to feel the cold, clingy embrace of death.”
Tumblr media
Even though the dictator had wrestled himself out of that eternal darkness and torment, perhaps this time, Bison would stay dead. A fool’s hope, but the thought that gave him just a smidgen of reasoning for his action, something that Chun-Li and the Lee twins could accept. This fight was basically suicide. But the old assassin had no trouble accepting that.

“That kind of overconfidence will lead you to an early grave, mister Masters.”
Tumblr media
“I have seen many fine warriors in my day fall into the same pit. I know you have a family. Doubt is something that keeps you alive, that makes you keep pushing yourself. Don’t grow complacent.”
So, this was a bit more interesting then that other Anasatsuken user, Ryu. He just wanted to know about different styles, to ‘broaden’ his horizons. Gen could just be giving away the weaknesses of his style to another fighter, but then again... He didn’t have much time left, and perhaps the next users of this style would not be as, merciful, as he is.
“You think there is a deeper meaning behind a style used for killing?”

“I already await the time that you grow old and ugly, maybe then you can finally remove your blinders and see the truth.” Gen smirked, stroking his beard. It was true that he was sick, he didn’t deny that much. But hideous? He was still going strong, his abilities at his peak and his body still holding up quite well. What an exaggeration from that foreign fool.
Tumblr media
“I can tell that you are itching to fight me, are you not? Not only are you blinded by your own vanity, but those around you offend you if they are not of the same beauty? What a foolish way to view the world! If you are so easily disgusted, you’d do better to gouge out your own eyes. It’d be easier then slaying everyone around you!”
Tumblr media
“You say that I am blinded by vanity, you old fool? All I see is a man who is ravaged by time to become utterly diseased and hideous.”
Vega was not particularly fond of this man - not solely because of his appearance, but also because of the way he talked down to him. He may be a skilled assassin with many years of experience, but he was little more than a senile old man who does not understand or appreciate the concept of beauty. To lose such a trait would make one wholly unsophisticated and dull. Raking his claws through Gen’s skin would teach him a lesson.

“Stories do not always speak the truth. But that would depend on what type of tall-tales you’ve heard about me. Most happen to be true.” Gen spoke, keeping a neutral facial expression for a moment. The old assassin had built quite a reputation for himself, both for his ruthlessness and his mastery of multiple styles of martial arts in hopes of making his body the ultimate weapon.
Tumblr media
“You still did not answer my question, girl. What is it that you seek from here?” From the way she called him Master, perhaps she was looking for teaching as well? Unless she was ready to carry on his legacy of the Assassin’s Fist, he probably had nothing to teach her.
Tumblr media
“Master Gen, right?” She asked the old man as she bows at him with respect.
Fai Lin heard so much about him from her father. During her training, her father mentions to her sometimes. She was told that he has both style of a Mantis and a Crane. Fai was in awe as she heard this.
Her father warned her about him. He described Gen as.. “temperamental.” That didn’t stop the young woman to give him a quick visit.
“I hope I did not disturb you. I heard stories about you from my father.”

The fight comment made the old master shake his head a little bit. These young fighters, always took battling so lightly, or at least so it seemed. Back in his day, fighting was something you did out of survival, you didn’t willingly jump into it unless there was something in it for you, other than glory, something more important then menial things like that. These things could include money, protecting someone or stopping someone dangerous. But alas, times were different and Gen did his best to adapt.
Tumblr media
“So you’ve also come here seeking my teachings? Your fellow student came here as well, seeking aid. Tell me child, for what reason do you want to learn from me? Is it to win a challenging fight? Or is it something more interesting?”

“I guess you really are as clueless as you seem.” Gen sighed, stroking his beard, to make sure it was how he wanted it to be, before turning to face the Turkish man once again.
“You seem to be aware of my profession already, so I’ll do my best to educate you, fool. Having worked for these people before, I know some delicate information. And they want to keep me silent, because I might reveal said information to the police or any other dangerous people, they would much rather have me killed, thus preventing any sort of damage control they would need to do.”
“Was that clear enough for you to understand?”

Hakan’s eyes widened from the sheer speed from this dangerous assassin of an old man!! At first he was panicked, was this old man going to end him RIGHT here? But, when he covered his mouth, Hakan chose to listen to the old man, instead of turn him in like his instinct told him too.
Forcefully removing the old man’s hand from his mouth, Hakan began to whisper to him. He thought assassin’s stuck together like family did. Would they really get rid of a fragile old man?
Tumblr media
“ Hold on a second, you are getting targeted by your old friends?! Why on Earth would they do that to you? Did you not just retire from the ….killing? “
