I think that all the stuff with Watcher wouldn’t have been as big of a deal if the fans had been happier with the content that they’ve been producing. I mean it’s no secret that the amount of views on their videos haven’t been great, especially for an operation as big as theirs that had such a huge fan base. I think it felt so ridiculous and like such a betrayal to so many people because most people haven’t been happy with their content for a while now and have only been watching because they wanted to support them.

Part of the problem was the blindly positive nature of that support. Like I’ve noticed (and been guilty of it myself) that most of the watcher fans were hesitant to give them any critiques or constructive criticism because we trusted them and didn’t want to make them feel bad.

Saying they were going to make new content and doing a whole countdown clock got people excited and made them think maybe they were finally getting out of their slump. When they announced their paywall instead it kind of popped the seal on all of the criticism and unhappy feelings that people had been holding back for a while now. I think if the fans had been completely happy with what watcher was making, then the paywall would still have been annoying and frustrating, but more people would have been understanding about it or at least had a calmer reaction to it

My youtube is absolutely flooded with these cold ass take drama clickbait its fucking insane. Their apology (from what i saw) was well received. The entire situation wasnt even that big of a deal after things got sorted. Why are these wannabe drama channels so obsessed with such a nothing issue. "Wild apology"???? They gave REFUNDS and free access to patreon supporters. They agreed they fucked up??? And changed their plan accordingly. They still have things to fix but jesus christ move on already 😭😭😭 just saying, there are literal youtubers that were accused of grooming that got treated better by the drama new cycle than a youtube channel that just wanted more income. Im so tired of hearing about it now

Don't get me wrong, I'm still kinda annoyed about what Watcher did despite the fact that they've gone back on it, but at the same time I hate all these channels posting videos like "the greediest channel on youtube" sometimes not even a day after the first "were quitting youtube" video came out. Like, if you can't even wait a day to make a video about a situation I think the call is coming from inside the house when it comes to greedy YouTube channels.

You know, I am a bit peeved about the fact that watcher are being called the greediest channel on youtube currently, when they literally did what few other youtube channel have done and actually took the criticism to heart and changed. Yeah, they fucked up initially but at least they admitted they did.

Now my little rant that I've been trying to keep in but imma just add it here: it seems that most of the haters throwing out nasty comments seem to be old BFU fans who only watch Ghost Files and can not let go of the past and does not realize that BFU has been over for almost 3 years now. It's totally ok to miss and grieve the loss of something you love, but continuously comparing Watcher to just BFU is tiring. Watcher is so much more than BFU, and if you guys would just simply read Watcher's company motto then you would know that.

So how about instead of living in 2018, you come and join us in 2024 and recognize that Shane Madej, Ryan Bergara, and especially Steven Lim are still fucking hilarious alongside the wonderful team at Watcher.

I've been thinking about Ryan today - I mean, the man has an anxiety disorder, he's anxious and stressed at the best of times and I hope having a good time at the live show calmed him a bit.

enough reclaiming slurs, I think in 2023 we should reclaim nascar. they banned the confederate flag on all properties & their stance on lgbtq+ isn’t just performative bc in 2013 they fined a driver 10k for using a homophobic slur, condemned indiana in a statement for an anti lgbt law, and partnered w carolina’s lgbt+ chamber of conference in 2022. nascar was founded by anti-cop moonshiners/bootleggers who drove suped-up fords to out-run the police. #yaaascar

the worst part of this Watcher thing is that no matter what they do now people will not trust them or have the same kind of respect with them ever. this has destroyed the branding & public trust from their fanbase that they've been building since before Watcher when they were all with Buzzfeed. they destroyed years of trust & love from fans in less than a minute with the announcement and once you do that as creatives you can never fully get that back. point being, regardless of what they do now? Watcher is dead.
