This is super interesting!! My uncle has Gnarly tinnitus which is Greatly exacerbated by wifi signals! He doesn't own a cell phone (for obvious reasons) and he uses an ethernet cable to access the web. He has noticed that as the world has gotten more interconnected, the places he can go without his tinnitus worsening has decreased. To me, what his experience and this article say is that at least some forms of what gets called "tinnitus" (based off the diagnostic criteria for it) is the ear becoming hyper-sensitive to wavelengths and stimuli that is otherwise 'ignored' or not picked up on by other, un-affected ears.
They recorded tinnitus? It's a physical thing?????

I just saw an ad for streaming TV which, in part, showed a clip of Tom Baker's Fourth Doctor futzing around with the control panel of the TARDIS captioned "Star Trek: The Original Series".

2024 is a mega election year and the EU elections are taking place this week. This is the 2nd largest election in the world - around 350 million people are eligible to vote.
Just like the elections in India and the USA this year - this one is very important for coexistence on our planet. Therefore, we want to use our reach and call on all those who are entitled to vote to make their voice heard.
We must not leave the EU to the far-right parties and must defend our democracies. Please vote.

Here are some simple questions you can ask in an interview when they ask you "So do you have any questions?" (Hint: Always ask a question)
Why is this position open? (Lets you know if the work environment is toxic bc the last person quit cuz they couldn't take it anymore. It's open because the workload increased/the company grew is a good sign--not only are they successful, but they hire new people instead of just working their current employees to death.)
What are the primary goals/measurements of success for this position? Ie, what you have to do to get a "good job/thumbs up, you're doing your job. (Lets you cut to the core of what the job actually is for your own information and demonstrates you're interested in doing a good job.)
What do you think will be the hardest part of the job? and/or What do you think are the most essential skills to have for this position? (Gives you a chance to follow up with saying how you have those skills/are good at the hard part/are prepared to do a good job/are well suited for the challenge.)
What do you (the interviewer) like and dislike about working here? (Gives you more insight into the working environment, gives them a chance to be introspective, gives you a chance to follow up with saying why you think you're a good fit for the working environment.
Very last/if you don't have any other questions: Do you think there's anything else I should know? and When can I expect to hear back from you? (leads into the natural conclusion by discussing timetables and the next steps of the interview process.)
Bonus: If there's anything you think is particularly cool about the work there, especially if it's something you went to school for, let your enthusiasm bleed through a little bit and/or ask more questions about the technical stuff, it will probably win you points. If you can fake it that might work too.

you only need to look at the way being intersex is often referred to by doctors and by TERFs to understand the damage the "sex is biological" rhetoric does
in case you're not familiar, the term I'm referring to specifically is DSD or Disorders of Sex Development
to someone who truly deeply believes that sex is natural, being intersex will always be disordered or defective. they insist on continuing to label us (intersex folk) as "men with DSD" or as "women with DSD" in order to reinforce the sex binary. they will not let intersex people be proof of the truly social nature of sex as a category, because they will not even see us as intersex. delete "sex is biological, gender is social" from your vocabulary. please and thank you

Things that will make your computer meaningfully faster:
Replacing a HDD with an SSD
Adding RAM
Graphics cards if you're nasty
Uninstalling resource hogs like Norton or McAfee (if you're using Windows then the built-in Windows Security is perfectly fine; if you're using a mac consider bitdefender as a free antivirus or eset as a less resource intensive paid option)
Customizing what runs on startup for your computer
Things that are likely to make internet browsing specifically meaningfully faster:
Installing firefox and setting it up with ublock origin
adding the Auto Tab Discard extension to firefox to sleep unused tabs so that they aren't constantly reloading
Closing some fucking tabs bud I'm sorry I know it hurts I'm guilty of this too
Things that will make your computer faster if you are actually having a problem:
Running malwarebytes and shutting down any malicious programs it finds.
Correcting disk utilization errors
Things that will make your computer superficially faster and may slightly improve your user experience temporarily:
Clearing cache and cookies on your browser
Restarting the computer
Changing your screen resolution
Uninstalling unused browser extensions
Things that do not actually make your computer faster:
Deleting files
Registry cleaners
Defragging your drive
Passively wishing that your computer was faster instead of actually just adding more fucking RAM.
This post is brought to you by the lady with the 7-year-old laptop that she refuses to leave overnight for us to run scans on or take apart so that we can put RAM in it and who insists on coming by for 30-minute visits hoping we can make her computer faster.

kill the rhetoric that americans are so lazy that they won't take farm jobs. americans take labor intensive jobs all the time. the reason no americans will take farm jobs is because agricultural work is exempt from the vast majority of labor laws and labor protections, including the use of child labor. so only immigrants - people who have little to no protection from the law or other options for work - take most of these jobs. we have created a permanent underclass of labor and then say that americans are just lazy for not volunteering to be part of the underclass.
there are actually good discussions to be had about how alienated many americans are from food production (hi hello that's what my only popular post is about), but the real solution to this problem is to protect agricultural workers, citizens or not. ban child labor in its entirety. punish corporations and farm owners that abuse and poison their workers. reform the immigration process so that these people aren't barred from legal protection and recourse.
agricultural workers have been exploited since the dawn of civilization, but the US in specific has been doing this since slavery, and it evolved in the 30s when FDR's labor laws excluded them specifically because most agricultural workers at the time were black. now it's mostly latino immigrants.
food doesn't fucking pick or slaughter itself. but citizens aren't going to take these jobs when the entire industry is rife with abuse - both legal and illegal - and horrific wages and working conditions.

"There's no thought crimes and no thought heroisms" is honestly such a good piece of life advice.
You could be having the most fucked up problematic thoughts 24/7 but if you treat people with kindness, the good you do is the only thing that matters. But if you have only the purest thoughts and all the correct beliefs, it doesn't matter one bit if you spend most of your time being an asshole to people.

Let’s be honest - Everest should be cut off from climbers, and the only people that should be allowed up there are ppl who volunteer to clean up all the garbage and human excrement adrenaline junkies have left up there over the decades, and anyone who volunteers to attempt to bring down any bodies of those who died.
The ascent is too dangerous, too many ill-equipped and unprepared climbers try to make the climb, and too much garbage is piling up and poisoning the run off that communities around Everest rely on to live.
