This feels antithetical to the entire mission and purpose of the Shadowhunters, and I'm sure that Cassie would deem it retconned by now.

But since it's in the book and she HASN'T actually retconned it, I'm going to shove my fingers in my ears, loudly sing over the naysayers, and believe in my heart of hearts that Matthew was occasionally in theatrical performances as a hobby. Like, you know, 3-5 times in his life, because he liked the play and wanted to see how it would feel to actually be onstage.

I don't understand why no one ever talks about the 30 seconds in Chain of Iron where Thomas thought Alastair was straight and like. Died of awkwardness inside. Considering hiding behind the candelabra levels of ahhhhhhhh. Like, imagine being Thomas Lightwood and having to think that Alastair Carstairs, who you just told you have been simping over since you were 14, was like "I am nothing like you" but YOU HAD BEEN SO SURE

Haha me too! I love the idea of them having little inflections in their accents with specific words, so I’m going with your headcanon too!

I just thought of something: both of the Carstairs siblings theoretically may sometimes have wonk-ass accents because they grew up moving around so much and absorbing phonological rules from multiple different languages surrounding them. I don't mean thick or even constant accents, but I mean Alastair saying a random sentence with a French accent while he's half asleep or Cordelia pronouncing certain words with a Portugese vowel structure. It's unpredictable, it's random, it's amusing for Thomas and James who adore them

I personally headcanon this too but unfortunately Cassie told me when I asked her that Alastair and Cordelia have regular British accents for some reason??
