Antony Raj breathes life into a series of amazing expressions. The faces he showcases have very intrinsic work- be it in the wrinkles of an aging face or the stray hairs caught in the wind. His pen and ink portraits, "Acquaintances", as he calls them, may remind the viewer of someone they know or have met in the passing. Featured art: Acquaintance 8 (Original Art, Pen and Ink on Board).

While a large part of Dhiraj Choudhury's time was taken up by his concern for humanitarian projects, they greatly influenced his art creations. "The pictures I paint may not be pretty, but they are an expression of my love for humanity and my genuine concern for the world at large. My art is not a pleasure trip. It is the battlefield of my 50-year struggle for freedom, which is still going on!", he said. Featured art: Indian Village (Original artwork, acrylic on canvas).

Dhiraj Choudhury, a well-known artist, activist, and teacher, brought together people from diverse backgrounds and exposed them to art. Born right into the middle of India’s struggle for freedom in Bengal, Dhiraj witnessed the realities of life in those tough times including the great Bengal famine of 1943. For him, it is all about inviting the viewer to witness a soul-shaking, nerve-rattling play. Revolutionaries were his inspiration; equality his utopia.

His works are narratives of socio-political situations of contemporary India and are part of the prestigious collections at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Lalit Kala Academy, Rashtrapati Bhavan, embassies of Belgium, Australia, Netherlands, and Singapore. “I like to emphasize the monks’ movement, and by rarely showing faces, their anonymity helps convey how they are ‘leaving humanity behind’ and going to ‘a peaceful place’, like Nirvana.” - Min Wae Aung ⠀ With Min Wae Aung, what one gets to do is peer into each painting, as if standing in the shade and looking out at the heat of the day. ⠀ He loves to depict his people in scorching reds and golden yellows. The colors are intense, black, and white being used as shadow and highlight. This uncompromising attention to their individual movement is remarkable and forms the highlight of his works.

Through his mundane themes and muted application of colors, his paintings at first instance may seem commonplace; but in actuality, they are a window into Venkatesan’s life – the places he has been, people he has met, and the circumstances he has encountered.
