GIF TUTORIAL: Blending two gif scenes together + color change from b&w to color
A lovely anon asked me to do a tutorial how to blend two gif scenes together and create a color change from black & white to color. I am not a photoshop or giffing pro but I will try my best to explain it to you. If you ever have more questions feel always free to jump in my askobox, anytime. This tutorial requires the basic knowledge for gif making, sharpening and saving gifs. I am using the kmplayer to make my screencaps from my BluRays. For the gifs I am using photoshop cs6 portable. It should work on all photoshop version though.
This tutorial will show you how to turn these two gifs:

HOLA! ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ this is nan and i’m here to teach you how to dougie make the spinning effect! an anon requested this tutorial and i hope he sees it! the effect itself is very very very easy to make, you’ll see! anyways, let’s go! you’ll need: 1) extracted pictures (pictures without their background) — if you don’t know how to do it, i have a tutorial for it —; 2) and know how to make gifs — you’ll find everything you need in the tutorial i linked you. ok, first step is to place your pictures where you want them to stay and make sure they’re proportional (click!); duplicate them until you have three layers of the same picture (click!); now we’ll reduce the width of two of them: press ctrl+t (or go to the transformation option: edit > transformation) and here put 75% in the first and 45% in the second (then you’ll press ctrl+t again and flip it horizontally). they must look like this. now we’ll make the gifs! we’ll need 4 frames for each picture you’ll be using: it starts with the 75% picture, then goes to the normal picture, then goes back to the 75% and after for the flipped one. didn’t understand? click here! usually my time setting is: 0,5s for the normal picture and 0,07s for the rest. you’ll make the same process in the other pictures you’re using. that’s it! hope you get it~ if you didn’t, come in my ask box and ask me for a better explanation even though i don’t know how i can explain it in a better way. see you guys later! ヽ(゜∇゜)ノ

Hello :) Could I ask you how did you make these gifs post/121213352496 ? Did you use Lighten or another mode? How did you manage to blend them together? Thanks
(x) hey! there are really hundrets of ways how you can make these gifs, but this is basically how i end up doing them/what i’ve learned with time:
if you want to make an image show up on a dark background/get rid of the dark background, set it to “screen” (or “lighten”, play around with the settings until you think it looks good)
if you want to make an image show up on a bright background/get rid of the bright background, set it to “multiply” (or “darken” again, play around with the settings)
“soft light” and “overlay” are setting you can test out, too, it all depends on the source material you got)
not every scene is suitable to be blend together, if you don’t think a scene is 100% perfect for this, use a different one, but, you can always try out adding a new layer and brighten or darken parts of your gif with black or white
personal tip: have the colouring ready before you blend gifs together, you’ll see better how it will end up and sometimes it reduces the cleaning up you will have to do
i haven’t saved any of the psd files but as far as i can see almost all of the gifs i made are blend together on a dark background, so i should have used screen or lighten. i tried to re-create the first gif:
these are how the gifs look like separately:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
both scenes are rather dark, but! the upper part of the second gif (I’ll just call it the group) is much brighter than the lower part, which will help us a lot making certain parts stand out, alright, make sure both of your gifs are converted into “smart filters”, after i duplicated one of the gifs into the file of the other, i’ve set the gif with the group to “screen”
Tumblr media
my gif looks like this now:
Tumblr media
well, since we can’t make out their faces anymore we are going to get rid of the bright parts, add a “layer mask” to the gif you’ve set to screen and paint with a black brush on the parts you want to delete!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
now my gif looks like this!
Tumblr media
this is how i ended up doing every gif of the gifset, except for the green gif. you see the flying hovercraft above of prim’s head, right? the hovercraft is rather dark and the background of the scene was bright, i’ve set the gif to “multiply” or “darken” and it should basically ended up like you can see it now, i’ve possibly deleted parts through a layer mask though like i’ve shown before.
i hope this helps!

Tutorial: Overlay Gifs
Tumblr media
A lot of people have been asking me how I make overlay gifs. I’ve tried to explain as best as I could but I am one to admit that i’m very shit at explaining and teaching things, so sorry if I completely mess this up. I have pictures though!
Difficulty: Medium? You need to have some basic gif making skills for this.  Program: Photoshop CS5 Feel free to ask questions if you don’t understand something.
