Hello there, it's been a while!
I've been quietly dealing with some shit for the first half of the year, but more on that later.
For now, here is a ludicrous example of how I make notes when composing. I'm currently developing a score for a short sci-fi/horror film here in Perth, which is pretty exciting.
The notes read:
"4:50 - Demony theme.
Soft till 5:14 - then rise to portaly portal - 6:00 MUMMY!!!
Sad dead mum music. "
It makes sense to me....
The real joy is reading it back in the years to come and guessing the amount of coffee I've consumed.
Lots of notes like "4:00- BOOMY BOOM!" and "5:18 to 6:22 - scary evil shit I dunno, play the piani son."
I love scoring films.

It's Saturday afternoon here in sunny Western Australia, and I have just finished a long long long painful week at work. I'm sitting back with a king brown in my studio listening to the new Darkthrone album Astral Fortress at a borderline unreasonable volume. The beer is freezing, the music is absolutely amazing, and I feel fantastic. Check this track out and I guarantee you will be sold, even if you're not a fan. Here's to an awesome weekend!

Felt like recording a sweet little icy Elfman-inspired melody, so I did just that ❄️

Start your day off FIT!
Years ago, a very kind woman in my neighborhood was moving and offered me a wonderful stack of vinyl. Hidden in there was this absolute gem.
So of course, I sampled it. After running the clips thru Spleeter to separate the voices into stems, I created a drum machine of Linda’s trainer friend Bob.
I was seeking a way to make the most efficient version of the workout. Crystal Thrust was born.
Try it! Bob will guide you on your condensed fitness journey.

Black Cloud Cassettes!
After a bit of a saga with Sendle, I finally thankfully have the cassettes for Black Cloud in my sweaty ham hands. With Art by The Less Dead, drumming contribution by The Drumslayer Keith McCoy, and some lyrical/vocal/6-stringed yums from Ayx The Robot, Black Cloud is ready to be received into your loving arms. This album was absolutely a creative step in the direction that I've always felt that I needed to go towards, but never had the balls or maybe even capability to do so. If you are familiar with my old music, then yes its very different. I've never liked sticking to one specific genre (which makes it very hard to sell my music) but I guess this album could be best described as: Dark synth music with a progressive flair leaning towards spacerock. If only distrokid et al had that sentence down as a genre selection instead of forcing me to pick Big House as a secondary Electronic Subcategory even though I don't know what that is, I'm just trying to will a Big House into my future. https://soylentchiba.bandcamp.com/album/black-cloud

Here's some of my art for you.
You're looking at a hand drawn Mel Gibson, with an expanding leaderesque head, and modified in photoshop.

Outside of this picture of a 2/3 year old Soylent Chiba being super cute - what the hell was I wearing? It's as if my Nana watched First Blood and crocheted a beige version of that makeshift poncho that Rambo makes for himself.
They really just slapped whatever the fuck they wanted on kids in the 80s.
I still have that double chin dammit.

STORY TIME! Way way way way back in 2017 almost to the day, this photo of my wife and I was taken at my sisters wedding. A super low key beautiful backyard shindig with great food, drink, dancing, the usual. The 48 hours leading up to that event were one for the history books. Firstly, I was T-boned at an intersection and spent the day in hospital having checks up the wazoo - (luckily nobody was seriously injured, and I received no major damage outside of bruising and later to be known sideways whiplash which has given me chronic neck and back pain). The accident was my fault, as a result of micronapping because I was so stressed out at work I was only getting 1/2 hours of sleep maximum. I crossed out when I shouldn't have and got smacked full force. I was driven home from hospital to discover my power had been shut off because I had forgotten a payment. Being a Thursday night, I wasn't able to get it properly turned back on until late Monday afternoon.
On the Friday, I took it off to rest, and then went to see Perturbator in the city. I didn't have a car because mine had been fucking obliterated. So my friend drove over a loaner for me and he drove us to the show. After the show, it became apparent that he had locked the keys in the car, so he impulsively smashed a window to get to them. During the drive back to his house (where I would then drive the car home from there) we were driving at a good 90kph when the hood just flew straight off the car - like, just fucking lifted straight off and warbled into the night sky. I later found out it was held down by weed whacker plastic wire, thankfully nobody was hurt, and the roads were dead. If it had happened two minutes earlier on the freeway, someone would've got fucked up. We laughed the rest of the way home thankful that nobody was hurt.
Saturday I spent nursing my bruises and being upset because I was just blergh, sitting on the couch reading comics, because of no power. The wedding was that night, and I had an absolute fucking ball. All my worries and stresses were gone, all that remained was happiness for my sister. Now this isn't a sob story, woe is me all that shit. November is a yearly reminder to me about why I exist. My friends and family were there - and I was low man, real low. When you're as low as that its easy to forget that you have friends and family. I've always been prideful and tried to make it on my own, never wanting to bother anyone. I made a stupid stupid mistake and the what-ifs still haunt me to this day. If my wife had been in the car, man, if you'd seen that car, shed be dead, just dead. Its a real wonder I'm not dead. I still see imaginary cars flying into my left hand peripheral vision towards me. My brother in law and his wife brought us over food, my friend brought me over a car - even though the hood was not secure - and I was overwhelmed by how supportive people were even though I fucked up. It was a whirlwind of a 48 hours and a watershed moment if there ever was one.
So yeah, November is a yearly reminder why I exist.
