The sad thing about this man is that he could've had the potential to actually be a good respected artist....INSTEAD he had this big horny ego that lead to his downfall

Honestly, I just wished someone where to take his artistic powers and give it to someone who really needs it, probably the better ending for him is just working at a dead end job or at least merciful, working at a Wendy's, though judging his character and his unchecked asd......YEAH I really doubt he would even land a job somewhere

I somehow doubt he could have been "succesful" really. I have seen Dobson's works and even if I gave him the benefit of the doubt, he never had much of a creative idea or the necessary artstic talent to make it "big". Like sure, he could better draw then I ever could or some other people. But at the same time, even at his peak, he could not really be bothered to draw in any exceptionally special manner. The best I can think of, is that Dobson could have been a "content" person, if he had come to terms with the fact that he was only ever going to get so far with what he had to offer and somehow managed to find a way to make the best of it. Like who knows, if he had become a basic artist for hire or some base level storyboarder, working more with the ideas of others than his own, perhaps he could have had some career in the industry. Instead Dobson wanted to be as big as his inflated ego while also being a judgemental "progressive" prick and all that earned him was the mockery of everyone.

Dylan the Nite Owl gave you a shoutout as a resource for his recent video on Dobson! I thought that was cool. As far as the video itself goes, it was also good but he did get some things wrong, or were otherwise misleading- claiming Alex and Atea were lesbians making out all the time is obviously wrong (the funny thing being, IF Dobson does ever return and bring back AZP, this WILL definitely happen), suggesting that Dobson's death threats that lead to his Twitter ban as the main reason he left the internet is obviously wrong. He also leaned into the rumor about Dobson being gone because he cost his brother a government job, but at least admits that's an unconfirmed rumor. Anyway it was a good video and nice to see you used as a resource!

Yeah, I saw the video myself. Overall I thought it was okay, the mistakes at the end regarding why Dobson eventually left the internet not withstanding. I think the only issue I can give with it is that while it does an overall decent overview, like many things -myself included- it does unfortunately not really go into the mistaks of Dobson's actual work. Like I know there is a lot to say about Dobson the creator and whinny internet a-hole, but I miss the chance of seeing someone aside of the voices in my head actually tackle Dobson's work for the shit that it displays.

Still, good work and decent enough overview and hey, the term "perpetual victim" is so fitting, I can bite myself in the ass not havng thought of it ever myself. If you read this Dylan, as two certain italians would say: APPROVED

Regarding the previously asked "if Dobson had gotten into Disney" hypothetical - to be fair, the Andrew Dobson who would have had the mental fortitude and work ethic to get into Disney or any other animation studio would not have been the same Andrew Dobson who made SYAC, complained about Nintendo's "changes", wanted to calm Zelda WIlliams' tits etc. etc, so overall the question is rather moot as so many parameters about Dobson would have to have been different.

Kinda? I mean, I do have opinions on other lolcows, but... let me put it this way: I do not like Sinfest and Tatsuya Ishida one bit. In fact, I would say he is like 20 to 30 times worse than Dobson for a variety of reasons. A lot of them connected to a level of antisemitism I would think even Hitler and Martin Luther would have called "unsubtle and over the top" to say the least. But frankly, the most energy I want to spend on some of these mental cases is just me hoping that one day they find themselves getting punched in the face by whatever marginalized group they have pissed off through their increasingly mental content

Seriously though, I don't quite know what to say here. I mean, I understand that Dobson was a really creepy guy about HOW he handled the concept of lesbians in fiction, putting the concept on a pedestal while "platonically" lusting for them as a straight dude who already looked like he breaths heavily in a phone. I also kinda hate how other show and content creators have tried to "force" diversity into other media instead of working with the concept in a genuinely organic or dynamic fashion. But creeps like that will never really make me hate characters who I feel have genuinely organic energy with each other. Uranus and Neptun from Sailor Moon, Amity and Luz from the Owl House, Willow from Buffy... they are just some examples of fictional characters on that specrum of sexuality that actually work and you can enjoy without coming off as too creepy, if you do just one thing that Dobson did not: Like them for who they are and not just for the fact that they are aroused by watching someone of the same sex.

Do you think if Dobson actually ever got a job at Disney (assume this is alternate timeline of ours where treasure planet did well) he would've been able to keep the job & eventually get Formera and/or Alex Ze Pirate off the ground and made into a tv/movie series or just gotten fired after a day or two?

No.

If Dobson ever had goen a job at Disney, I assume he would have worked as some inbetween animator or a storyboarder at best. But getting his own idea off the ground? I have read Formera, I have read Alex. Nothing, about either of these things was good enough to even entertain on a webcomic level, so why the fuck would any of it worked as a cartoon? Plus the production of a cartoon can at times take half a decade+ in order to ge off the ground, as evident by how often times things are pitched, reworked and changed to the point that even along the actual production stage changes in directions no one expected can still happen. Case in point I can think of: Owl House. Just look at what Belos was like in the beginning of people pitching stuff vs the final product. Dobson, with his unwillingness to change without bitching all the time and other stuff, his lack of creativity, his inability to really connect with the zeitgeist of any given period, would have failed harder under Disney than he already did as a solo act. At best he would have spend a couple of years temporarily working for them and then he would have gone the way of the dodo. Or he would have been metooed because he was acting accidentally creepier than he attempted

Well looks like the Bluesky Dobson account was indeed fake. The account was taken down after the first comic. You probably saw it and it was indeed stupid. Honestly, to be fair, it does feel like something Dobson might have made if he did return. So points for that. It does make me wonder what the point was in the end, especially when the user posted a "return" date and then posted the first comic a whole month early.

To channel my own inner sassy black woman clichee: I told you guys. In honesty though, I thought this wuld potentially go on for a bit longer as a "joke", then it did. Heck, hsi abd take on Captian America Brave New World, while very on the nose, felt also very similiar to something Dobson would have said. Including the "being too late to the party" thing. But when the comic came out, It was obvious that this was a fake. Like I will say this about Dobson: He could be very bad at art, but not even that bad as in the third panel of the comic. Plus the word font was all wrong.

As for why it was done, I assume someone thought this shit might get Dobson out of the woods. I just think it was dumb. I am not against a decent Dobson joke, but the only thing I think this did was made /co/ think even less of kiwifarms, because they assume some kiwi did it. Which to be hoenst, hanging around those two plattforms occassionally, I don't see either, even the ones obsessed about Dobson, really going that far.

Nothing about this "grand return" feels right to me. The silhouette banner on the BSKY account looks like the bear but inflated, plus I always knew dobson to be incredibly impulsive. This kind of building anticipation building feels very oit of character for him.

He said he'd NOT be responding to comments for the sake of his mental health and he's sticking to it so far. Which is also not the Dobson I know.

Not to mention, I don't understand his potential motivations for coming back. Unless he's honed his skills and changed his attitude he's not going to make any money. He's just going to get ruthlessly bombarded with hate messages until he leaves.

And this is pretty much a few of the reasons why I myself don't buy this being Dobson. That and another thing that actually got me: The background and the hat of the post three panel comic post hinting on his return. Okay look, I know Dobson was aware of the fact that people hated his lack of backgrounds and he also made fun of that. But mostly as means to mock his critics. "Oh you hate a lack of background. Lets draw even more comics in a void". So him actively having a strip where he starts off with no background at all? Plus showing just glasses and a hat, the fedora btw being something he has distanced himself over the years because he did no want to be associated with "nice bros"? This shows a level of almost humorous self awareness, that Andrew Dobson lacked in all the years he was online. So yeah, that alone raises a flag for me in general. Plus you know, the lack of impulsiveness anon here mentioned. Also the banner implying a shape that remidns me more of Ronnie, making me wonder if this is just someone trying o do a Ronnie inspired webcomic about Dobson now for shit and giggles once "it" launches. Whatever is going to happen on March 28th.

Lastly, lets say Dobson came back: What would change really for him or "us" in general? As I mentioned prior, Dobson is by now in his mid 40s and his reputation as an online artist has been in the gutter even before he disappeared in 2020. Him coming back would just result in more mockery by others than even before and this time Dobson could also pretend very little that he is still on the "right side of history" as in years prior. Not just because his lack of achievements has painted him in an increasingly more pathetic and pityful light with incrased age, but also because a shitton of opinions or values he "held dear" in regard to popculture or society have become as of now problematic themselves or people are turning against them harder than before. Lik the last five years in popculture alone feel in my opinion like a general rejection of stuff Dobson enjoys or was critical about/was dismissive about in this shitty mean high school bully manner. As for us, as in people in general, we have our own lives going on and Dobson is not going to have any impact on it, especially when the only plattform he could interact on was bluesky of all places. A site that as far as i know eats is own people like it is a rat bucket for twitter immigrants. I am kinda curious what this thing is going to be on March 28th, but I really just expct an elaborate but kinda devoted trolling attempt, like Liquid and Solid Chris back in the early Chris Chan days. I see what it will be in a month, till then it is just an elaborate trolling scheme. And if he is back, it won't take long for the rest of the internet to mock him back into oblivion anyway. this guy lives on attention and at this point in his life, it would be all he has. To be honest, I think it was more about acting currently as if Dobson is still a relevant shit. Which he isn't, as he has been off he grid for five years. So I think acting like he is still an active moron is actually a bit performative and that is coming from me)

Half a year late but to elaborate on previous anons (and one who's wrong about Aonuma's role, in OoT he was only the dungeon designer for Water Temple and assistant designer in the others), it was Yoshiaki Koizumi's wife who pushed for a "handsome" Link. Koizumi was the game's co-director alongside Shigeru Miyamoto, Toru Osawa and Yoichi Yamada. Anyway, per Iwata Asks, Koizumi mentioned his wife said Nintendo heroes "always have weird noses" asking why there couldn't be a "handsome hero" for the ladies to ogle. Thus he designed the 3D Model of Adult Link to be as bishonen as posible, with artist Yuusuke Nakano realizing it in 2D. Between his wife's pushing him for "handsomer" every time the model got updated, the introduction of child Link in the final 8 months of development and the game production done half blindly as 3D was still new to them, Koizumi is said to have pushed against OoT being first person (a la Metroid Prime) because "(He) worked really hard on this cool Link and now he'll be on screen at all times!". Koizumi was also Majora's co-director and... I like Aonuma, his heart in the right place, but I feel the 3D Zelda quality kind of dipped following his departure from the series. As for Link's designs, Nakano mentions in the book Art and Artifacts having an arguement with Miyamoto, who was angry the Oracle Link didn't had the SNES/LA button nose as that Link is Miyamoto's precious boy. Nakano tried to explain how times have changed and that style of art wasn't popular anymore among children (indeed Oracle Link could totally have a kodomo anime with that design) and Miyamoto just ended with "Fine! Do what you want!"

I think the simplest answer is the most likely. I think that anon is right and Dobson's ego is just THAT fragile and damaged. He also had no goals except "make lots of money" but people wouldn't give it to him. He thought people owed him money just for existing anyway basically. He lost his passion for his work YEARS ago. Making comics was a CHORE for him; he even bitched about it in early SYACs. On his Patreon he would ONLY guarantee ONE comic PER MONTH if he made a certain amount. Others make web comics for FREE. Keep in mind Dobson also quits everything he does in the end anyway, but all this added up, plus the fact he gets food and shelter from his parents, then what reason does he have to bother anymore from his perspective? What did he have to work toward? In his view nothing. He would honestly rather be a lazy, leeching slob. I do agree it does feel like there is SOME missing piece, but overall I think this is the answer.

This anon sums up pretty well how Dobson's status as a content creator was really just driven by money and how the lack of instant success led to him losing all passion.

If anything people, here is how you can prevent being a Dobson: Never lose love for something you genuinely enjoy doing. Take a break on occassion if it becomes overwhelming, but don't try to give up.

I do NOT encourage anyone to do what anon suggests. Of course making a joke comic of Alex and Co could be fun. To those who get the joke. For everyone else it would be cringe. but to actually sell it and try to mak a profit? Guys, you would risk of getting sued for copyright infringement. And Dobson would genuinely be justified in that case. We do NOT want Dobson to be justified.
