A Trek to Chembra Peak in Wayanad With the preset of monsoons, enthusiastic tourists start hunting for green destinations where they can set up their next exciting trek. Trekking not only allows people to explore different locations, but also takes them one step closer to Mother Nature. One such destination that is rich in lush green vegetation and scenic beauties is Chembra Peak in Wayanad.
Located on the border of Kerala, Wayanad is a beautiful destination that is known for its blossoming forests, rich wildlife and tea plantation. From Bangalore, Wayanad is almost 262 kilometers and people hiring Bangalore cabs can reach the destination in less than 5.5 hours. Eight kilometers south of Kalpetta, near the town of Meppadi is Chembra peak, which is quite a treat for trekkers.
A Trek to Chembra Peak
Located near the town of Meppadi, Chembra peak is a beautiful location that allures many trekkers all round the year. Starting early on a pre set monsoon morning allows people to experience a misty environment, where the sun starts showing up slowly.
As people start their trek, they begin through the tea plantations for a few kilometers and stop at forest office for acquiring permission and pass for further trekking. Forest office checks for plastic material and course pass for camera.
Trekking without a guide is not allowed in this location and if people wish to carry out a trek, they should come between 7:00 AM in the morning to 2:00 PM in the afternoon. The trek starts after 2 kilometers of stretch, where a van from the office drops the trekkers.
After a few kilometers, people reach a watch tower from where the entire Wayanad is visible. Then people need to cross a wooden gate that leads to a narrow path way, which is quite steep. For seeing the heart shaped lake, people need to climb up Chembra hill, which is a delight to watch.
This is the highest peak in Wayanad, which is around 2000 meters and offers amazing views of the valley. While planning this trek, people should make sure that they pack food and carry water bottles with them.
Traveling From Bangalore to Wayanad
Bangalore to Wayanad route passes through Mysore, Gundlupet, Bandipur, Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary and Sultan Bathery. Many people opt for city cabs in Bangalore to travel to this destination. On the way to Wayanad is Bandipur check post that closes at 9:00 PM. So, people travelling from Bangalore should try to leave before 3:00 PM, as it takes almost 4.5 hours to reach this check post.
The route from Bangalore to Wayanad is good, but as soon as people cross Kerala border potholes take up most of the speed and this continues till Sultan Bathery. From Wayanad, Chembra peak is 22 kilometers and people can easily book a taxi or hire a rental car to reach this picturesque and fun filled trekking location.
