Virtual Sketchbook #4
1. WRITING, THINKING AND LOOKING CRITICALLY: Pollock, a renowned artist, wanted to distance himself from his mentor, Thomas Hart Benton, while expressing his inner struggles during periods of addiction. His art, often referred to as "controlled chaos," was characterized by its careful yet emotionally charged style, transcending pure abstraction. Pollock's determined and passionate approach embodied a profound artistic attraction, showcasing his immense dedication and passion for his work. His complete attention in the creative process, resembling an artistic trance, symbolizes his complete commitment to the act of creation. Pollock's dedication to his craft allowed him to create art that resonates with various perspectives, capturing the nature of human emotions and struggles.
2. ART PROJECT: My artwork signifies and showcases the beautiful green lush mountains of Kauai, Hawaii. I made this artwork using a website called Pixlr, where I imported a picture that I took on a vacation. After importing the picture, I put layers of pen/ink onto the picture until it was fully covered in lines of different colors and sizes. Next, I saved my new image that I had made, then imported it back into Pixlr, where I then duplicated the image 6 times. After the duplication process was complete, I changed the size of each copied image and flipped, layered, and changed the opacity of each image which then created the final product that you see below.

Virtual Sketchbook #3
The painting "Watermelon Regatta," measuring 70 by 96 inches and created with oil paint, showcases a vibrant array of colors and shapes. Some colors that this painting portrays are bright red, blue, brownish green, and many other colors that appear to be more dim than the others. The shapes that this painting offers are mostly organic, like the shape of the boats. The artist, known as "The Master of the Fertility of the Egg," was active in northern Italy during the late 1600s to early 1700s, yet their true identity remains a mystery, adding an element of intrigue and speculation to their works. This particular painting captures a whimsical scene of a boat race where watermelons, cantaloupes, and even oversized shoes serve as boats, creating a playful and imaginative atmosphere.
In terms of composition, "Watermelon Regatta" is flawlessly balanced, which a symmetrical arrangement that emphasizes proportion and rhythm. The figures, whether human or animal, are relatively the same size, contributing to the harmonious flow of the painting. Each element, from the colorful clothing to the unique boat designs, adds to the overall rhythm and energy of the scene. The repetition of shapes, such as the watermelons used as boats, creates a sense of unity, while the diverse array of subjects and colors adds variety and visual interest.
The emotional impact of "Watermelon Regatta" is multifaceted. On one hand, it exudes a sense of playfulness and excitement, drawing viewers into the lively boat race depicted on the canvas. The unconventional use of fruits and vegetables as boats adds a humorous and whimsical touch, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in this imaginative world. Additionally, there's a subtle hint of nostalgia that the painting evokes, perhaps stemming from its historical context or the universal themes of joy and competition portrayed.
What makes "Watermelon Regatta" even more captivating is its recent restoration, which has brought the artwork back to its original vibrancy and charm. The mystery surrounding the artist's identity, coupled with the unique nature of the painting and its timeless appeal, contributes to its significance in art history. The visual experience is not only delightful but also a reflection of creativity, cultural celebration, and the timeless appeal of mysterious art.
The "Watermelon Regatta" painting, with its intricate details and depth, provides viewers with a glimpse into a world where imagination is limitless. It exceeds mere representation and becomes a storytelling medium, allowing viewers to engage on multiple levels, highlighting its lasting relevance as a medium for expression, reflection, and connection across generations.
Attached to this post I have added in 4 pictures. The first two are proof of me visiting the Ringling Museum, the second two (from left to right) are of the Watermelon Regatta, before and after its restoration.

Art Project (Self-Portrait)
I don't think we were supposed to write about our self-portrait but I wanted to explain mine a little bit. The picture in the middle is a self-portrait that I created on my phone in the form of digital art. Some features of my picture may look a little bit exaggerated (because they are) like the ears and nose. Surrounding my original character are some pngs (from PicsArt) of things I enjoy, such as bugs, plants, flowers, and the color green!

Writing A Self-Portrait
Questions:
How old are you? - 21
What is the gender you primarily align with? - Male
Where are you from? - Las Vegas, Nevada
What is your ethnicity? - Caucasian
What do you do for fun? - Talk to my friends, research about topics I am interested in (bugs!), play videogames, and create games.
Are you a member of any organized group? - No
Where do you work? - I don't work at the moment but if I were to have a job I would want to work at a place where I don't really have to talk to anyone since I have a lot of trouble with speaking to people.
What makes you uniquely you? - I have big round glasses (like shown in my self-portrait), I would rather be surrounded by animals and bugs rather than people, I have my own sense of fashion - I am not influenced by other peoples fashion choices (I wear propeller hats and you usually don't see 21 year olds wearing those types of things), and I have a dry sense of humor.

Art and Writing
This art piece was created by me in my art class in high school! It is a pencil and colored pencil drawing of a dodo bird on a hard piece of poster board. The artwork aims to showcase the beauty of a dodo bird, which is an extinct animal and I think it's important to display a creature who no longer roams our planet. I do think my work is beautiful because due to using pencils and colored pencils, I was able to capture exactly what dodo birds look like. To add on to that, my use of various shades of brown for the feathers creates a beautiful array.

Introduction Art Works
Facts about “Pieta” and Michelangelo.
Michelangelo was not only a sculptor, painter, and architect, but also a poet! He wrote hundreds of letters and poems.
"Pieta" was the only work that Michelangelo ever signed.
"Pieta" was carved from a single piece of Carrara marble.
Michelangelo lived for 89 years which was an unusually long lifespan for someone of his time (born in 1475).
"Pieta" means pity or compassion.
I felt a sense of loss when I first looked at this piece. It is apparent to everyone that this sculpture depicts a woman holding a man in her arms. The woman appears to be distressed and sad as if she is holding the deceased body of a person she loves dearly. I originally believed that this sculpture portrayed a person holding a lost loved one, but after reading more about it, I can now see that it is actually a religious work of art. This sculpture shows the Virgin Mary cradling her son Jesus's deceased body. Michelangelo's sculpture is a masterpiece of detail and effort, capturing the viewer's emotions with its realistic appearance.
