i used to wonder why spamton of all characters would have a connectioin to so many other characters [lines about jevil, lived with queen, stole swatch's look, the addisons, gave noelle a pipis, stole mettatons oc, Tenna, Mike, whoever phone guy is] but then i realsied that as a spam email hed get sent to as many people as possible so opf cours3e hes met goddamn everyone.

Spamton is in my opinion too proud to ever properly apologize, but…

I suppose, from the replies [I Regret to inform you] works, but I might twist it a little bit as is usual for Spamton. He might even make it snarky with [Congratulations!] but that sounds a bit passive aggressive for him (he usually is JUST aggressive).

Of course if you wanna skirt around it you could also use [hyperlink blocked]. I doubt he’d ever be direct.

If you wanted to add comedy to it I’d reference some infamous apologies from online, mostly YouTube videos, like [No More Lies].

I’d also focus on shifting the blame towards others subtly even if he really does mean to apologize. “[Sorry about your] JACKASS ACTIONS.”

I have asked this question, "Is there any evidence that Spamton genuinely screwed Tenna over", and got no concrete answers. I still can't find anything within the game or sweepstakes, just the two trash-talking each other.

Toby even admitted the two mutually enhance each other (whatever that means), comparing them to Spy Vs Spy (I used to love these comics as a kid, and from what I remember they were just simple pranksters, like Tom and Jerry).

The point is how they BOTH blame each other! Sure, people were duped by Spamton into thinking Tenna was worse, but then why, oh why are people quick to trust Tenna wholeheartedly in this case? Is it because he's far more charismatic and not a spam email? Just because he's nice doesn't mean he's being honest.

I think it was a little bit BOTH their fault and not....because of course Spamton couldn't say anything and he ran away and the laptop disconnected. Both were quick to jump to negative conclusions, and it just festered until they finally meet again years later...

Maybe they were both bad for each other, but I do think they genuinely loved each other...I think there was something of a downfall right before the phone call. Maybe they had a big fight beforehand that soured their relationship and this mutual "abandonment" pushed it further.

Have we played the same Deltarune because what’s this stuff I’m seeing about Spamton being abusive and The Divorce was His Fault Actually.

Something that absolutely devastates me is how easy the Tenna boss fight is. I'm bad at dodging, like, really bad. I haven't beaten Spamton NEO to this day and regular Spamton killed me 4 times. I won by using the "I love tv" act because I'm also awful at the minigames, and I got to the end of the fight ON MY FIRST TRY and lost at the last second because I had been SOBBING the whole time, hadn't stopped since his backstory, and therefore I wasn't exactly paying attention to the whole minigame thing at the end. I was on the final one. I didn't even get mad like I usually do when I finish games. I just closed the game cause it was late as hell and I knew damn well that I couldn't do that again on an emotional level. Got him in one try the next morning. QUEEN KILLED ME 15 TIMES MINIMUM AND CHAOS KING AT LEAST 8. THE WEATHER KILLED ME 4 OR 5 TIMES.

He isn't TRYING. he's the easiest boss fight because he wants to keep them there, not to kill them. He takes extra damage from Kris, and a lot of people say that it's because Kris hates him (I don't think they do, for the record) but also. It's cause he's personally invested, he cares about them, and getting hurt by someone you care about hurts worse than getting hurt by a stranger. UGH IM SO GODDAMM SAD ABOUT HIM.

as much as the recent spamton slander sucks, i do think its kinda funny how much tenna would support that. i mean, givedn his behaviour in the susiezilla minigame, hed totally see a bunch of people calling spamton evil, specifically in defense of tenna himself, and jump right in on it.

Well obviously lol, Tenna has an INTENSE resentment and hatred for Spamton nowadays with the way he treats everything about him- Seeing all the slander would be a huge boost to his ego. But at the same time I can feel that deep inside he really does miss Spamton, and same for Spamton missing Tenna.

BECAUSE SPAMTON SHARING HIS SECRET WOULD LEAD TENNA TO NOT FOLLOW THE PATH THE PROPHECY MADE FOR HIM,, SPAMTON'S [BENEFACTOR] CUT HIM OFF BECAUSE WHAT SPAMTON WAS DOING WAS AGAINST THE EVENTS SET OUT BY THE WORLD, WHICH DROVE SPAMTON INTO INSANITY!!!

IT'S TRAGIC BECAUSE THEIR DOWNFALLS WERE NEITHER OF THEIR FAULTS, THEY COULDN'T HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS GRAND SCHEME OR THAT SPAMTON'S [BENEFACTOR] WOULD LEAVE, SO THEY'RE LEFT TO ASSUME ONE BETRAYED THE OTHER. THEY USED TO BE CO-WORKERS. FRIENDS. NOW THEY'RE ENEMIES.

ANYWAYS THATS ALL I CAN MUSTER RIGHT NOW THIS TOOK A LOT LONGER THAN I THOUGHT TO GATHER. BUT I HOPE IT'S INTERESTING AND I HOPE YOU SEE WHERE I'M COMING FROM :) I LOVE SPAMTON AND TENNA AND WHILE I DOUBT WE'LL EVER GET MORE, I LOVED TO SEE SMALL PARTS OF THEIR WEIRD RELATIONSHIP :)

The interesting thing is…. from the glimpses of SOUL-less Kris we saw in Chapter 1 + 2, it was notable how…. strangely they seemed to move. We saw them walking with a sort of zombie-like gait that maybe implied they weren’t in full control of their body still, or maybe just that they were in immense pain.

It led to a lot of people speculating that Kris does need a SOUL to some level. Maybe the SOUL is Kris’ but we’re a foreign entity that has taken it over, or that Kris’ original actual SOUL has been removed and replaced with us. If Kris needed the SOUL to live, that would explain their slow, deliberate movements and also why they keep putting us back inside despite clearly hating being under our control.

So now, with Chapter 4 giving us a much better glimpse of SOUL-less Kris doing stuff… it’s notable that they seem… fully capable of moving ‘normally’. Angrily, but normally.

Even when they do the whole Creepy Zombie Walk thing they are notably faster than they seemed to be in Chapters 1 + 2

They can do things that require fine motor skills, focus and swiftness like playing the piano, handling glasses, and beating the shit out of us with a hockey stick and it's all animated as smoothly as most other Deltarune Animations. Not really implying effort or stiffness the way that original Creepy Zombie Walk animation did.

And while Susie only gets a brief moment to interact with SOUL-less Kris in the Normal Route

Noelle has prolonged interactions with them in the Weird Route (both on-screen in Chapter 4 and off-screen in-between Chapters 2 and 3) and... while she does note that they sounded 'weak and shaky' and obviously their behavior seems weird on account of the whole 'traumatized by the Unkillable Evil Time-Demon only they can see" thing

... There's nothing to really indicate that there's anything outright unnatural or 'zombie-like' about the way Kris moves and interacts with her while SOUL-less. Since this is the Weird Route, Noelle even note this is the most natural and Kris-like they've acted in the last few days.... until we take over again.

And now we know they can go without the SOUL for a fairly prolonged period of time. The Ominous Phone Voice of Probably Carol does tells them they need the SOUL, it seems unclear why.

So… what that means for SOUL-less Kris’ behavior before? It’s possible that even if Kris can operate without a SOUL, it still hurts like hell. So right after tearing out the SOUL they are in Maximum Pain and it's hard to ignore, causing them to move in a struggling and slow manner. But the more they go without it, they kinda get used to it and the pain fades into the background - allowing them to do stuff more-or-less normally.

(Basically Kris has Chronic Pain but the only Painkiller that works for them is Demonic Possession)

…Or, knowing Kris, maybe this… was all an act. They were only behaving like This because they knew we were watching. It is pretty notable that they walk around normally in the Holidays' Kitchen while we're eavesdropping on them and only swap to the Creepy Walk Animation once they notice us....

Maybe this is an act, either to make us underestimate the things Kris could do SOUL-less… or because they’re a little teen Edgelord so they just enjoy playing up the whole Soulless Zombie thing when they have a chance.

Yapping about Spamton

Okay just gonna put this shit here cuz it’s been on my mind and I wont shut up about it with my friends

KEEP IN MIND! This is just my opinion on Spamton and on how people perceive him, as well as my personal interpretation of his character! I could be 100% wrong and could just be spouting bullshit, but I still wanna put this out here.

Being a spamton fan is lowkey so hard I cant even lie, like the pendulum swung WAY too far in the opposite direction when it came to people’s interpretations of him… like are people so blind to the nuance behind his character, both good and bad, to the point that he HAS to be seen as one or the other?

Ofc I understand why it’s difficult to rlly understand his character well as he’s very contradictory, not to mention his actions aren’t exactly… good or easy to look at, and hell, I can’t even say I fully understand him well myself. Still…

When Ch2 came out, I do recall that he was heavily woobified and misinterpreted to a very large extent but nowadays Ive been seeing a lot of posts emphasizing heavily on the evil of his character in and it is arguably just as much of a misinterpretation of his character as the woobification was

Dont get me wrong, he’s certainly a bad person but I feel as if fixating on that only ends up discrediting the effort Toby Fox put into writing his character and the complexities involved in his writing. If Toby really was so adamant on making Spamton this one-note, then why bother writing any of what happens after Spamton NEO’s fight? Why bother writing in the little backstory details involving the Addisons and now Tenna too? Why bother making his hatred of being a puppet so important? Why bother emphasizing on his nature as a puppet at all?

If Jevil knew Deltarune’s a game, I feel like Spamton dials (heh) that up to eleven. He is a very blatant tool (or rather, puppet) of Deltarune’s narrative and imo especially its meta narrative involving the commentary on its nature as a video game. Standard deltarune is a subversion of a game’s expectations and weird route is ‘normal.’ (Normal in quotation marks cuz obviously weird route is a different kind of subversion)

There’s a reason he is the main tool the game uses for you to kickstart weird route. After all, isn’t weird route just a glorified rpg?

You play into the rpg tendencies a normal player would have- Level up the favorite ‘love-interest’ character and make them as strong as possible so you can always use them. I mean ofc weird route has more going on but fundamentally it’s kinda just the player bruteforcing the game to be ‘just a game.’

(Speaking of love interest, like yeah Spamton really sucks for saying Noelle’s a [Hochi Mama] but I think that’s less him saying shit and moreso just a reflection of what people who play games would normally perceive Noelle’s role in weird route. Cuz, yk. Love interest. And fans being weird about them.)

He is aware of his purpose as a tool for the game and his lack of any control and he does everything in his power to fight back. In normal route, he tries to steal your soul (the angel) to become an angel himself, to be a god BEYOND the narrative even if that’s literally impossible for him, even if it’s impossible to fight back, just look at Kris.

In weird route, he plays into his purpose as the puppet, perpetuates the ‘game’ so he can end up free, making Noelle a tool for the player, an angel… (or a glorified extension of the Angel kinda like yk jesus and god and allat cuz i swear the thorn motifs and christmas motifs arent for nothing) to get everything he wants, not realizing that becoming even more of a puppet wont even do anything

(Also, going by the theories that he’s aware of the prophecy and that weird route is the actual prophecy, smthn smthn LOVE finds its way to the girl, it kinda makes even more sense if he goes in to fulfill everything that happens in-game during weird route if he believes playing into the prophecy is what he can do to get freedom, smthn smthn angel’s heaven descends)

Like damn man he’s a kris parallel for a reason!! His puppet motifs are there for a reason!! He’s a character driven mad by his own awareness and lack of control over things far greater than himself, and ofc that also makes him do awful shit that understandably might not and probably shouldn’t even be excused.

Still, he’s a complex character, batshit insane hateable at times while sympathetic other times. He lies a lot, he says contradictory shit- but One thing i firmly believe was always true, as he says so himself, was that he was always in it for the freedom.

I don’t know man but I have a feeling Toby Fox didn’t intend for his audience to hate Spamton and worship Tenna. I think he intended the audience to appreciate both characters for who they are because they’re a pair. They complement each other.

for those who kill the fun of people with their "living with Spamton" fanfics/art with stuff like "uh he'd just steal your wallet lmao" are actually bringing up interesting story possibilities though?

you're right! maybe he would be sneaking cash from your wallet and stashing it somewhere. like, he potentially lived on the streets for decades, and as someone desperate to control his circumstances, he could impulsively act in self-preservation to prevent what he believes is ineevitable future deprivation of this newfound, too-good-to-be-true financial security because he can't help but view every act of generosity with suspicion. maybe it wouldn't be entirely malicious, but instead a developed survival instinct focused on acquiring and hoarding resources while he can.

It’s like people forget Spamton is still a TRAGIC villain. You’re supposed to feel pity for him (maybe not in snowgrave, but that’s also because YOU are being the villain in that route along with him). I can’t assume everything Toby thinks of because I can’t read his mind and we all know a ton of our theories were proven wrong, but I CAN believe that he didn’t want to portray Spamton as irredeemable in the first place…because why does he have that sad ending in the neutral and pacifist route where he gives himself up to the gang? Why do the Addisons mourn him, and call him unlucky?

From a purely meta perspective, his actions are evil in the same way Scar from The Lion King’s actions are evil, sure. But I’m really not liking this overcorrection and then suddenly treating Tenna as the absolute victim here and like a kicked puppy. He 100% has Disney villain energy, maybe even more so than Spamton if I want to be controversial here.

Also calling Spamton a dictator is hilarious when Tenna forces his employees under harsh and unfair contracts and has a specific Points system that he is purely in control of. He’s a lot more controlling than Spamton ever is, his control freak tendencies are something that gets quickly ignored actually!

I wanna be fair, as I much as I hate to say it, he is...kind of evil, at the very least WAS evil in the normal route and certainly evil in weird/snowgrave route. But in the same way someone like Queen was evil (I LOVE her to death but I think some fans forget her world domination plans and other villainous acts), and she's completely chill now.

However, for the past year or so, mainly on twitter but I like mentioned reddit too, Spamton fans and general Deltarune fans, have been (imo) over correcting the first two years or so of Spamton angst or babying, anything in the early chapter 2 days where his misdeeds were glazed over and his personality was too nice or idealized or whatever. Hyping up his evilness, making him out to completely irredeemable, calling him pure evil (that one I seen a few times on the subreddit). And I personally think people read into stuff like the "hochi mama" thing too much, iykyk. For some reason in early 2025 there was a uptick in focusing on him being a dictator??? At least a potential one? Like I guess? But it was getting weird. Anyways, while good ol delicious Spamton angst has been coming back, ch 3 has also made the overhype of Spamton's horrible qualities get a bit more fandom wide on the twitter side at least.

Me in 2021-2023: oh man I love Spamton he's one of my favorite characters, but I wished the fandom acknowledged his villainous actions more, he's not innocent!

At end of the day I can't get too annoyed since it's all about a silly fictional character, especially when it's fucking Spamton of all characters, but I let out a big sigh whenever I see ppl I follow on twitter also over exaggerate his evilness. And because I hate myself, I sometimes check out r/Deltarune, they really hype that man up to be the most deplorable and pure evil character in fiction over there like damn lol, like I gotta it's almost comical how extreme they make him out to be. I love Tenna so much as well, but looking up art and memes about him right now can be a real hotbed for coming across some "mediocre" (I don't want to say anything that can come across as too mean or dramatic lol) takes about Spamton.

Mind you, I have no problem enjoying and loving evil irredeemable characters, Shockwave from different Transformers continuities for example is also one of my favorite characters as well, and in SO MANY of those continuities he's a cold unfeeling monster committing new kinds of war crimes, transformers fans will probably know of the "There's Satan. Then There's Shockwave." video. I just don't think Spamton is...that. But yet I feel like I can't argue that I think Spamton isn't completely irredeemable (well maybe he is on a snowgrave route but he's dead there at the end anyways) without feeling biased and being too attached to my fave.

Spamton's not a great person, obviously. He's a living spam bot/spam email, that is his entire job. What he does is also not too much different from the Addisons, especially if you check on them in chapter 4, they advertise in a manner incredibly similar to Spamton. They still miss him.

However, keeping that in mind...He's also even more complex than simply just being a spam bot or salesman. It's clear he suffers a lot, that he resents where he is at right now very deeply, he's fully aware he's gone insane and feels like he has to do something about it. He's desperate. But he's also not one to give up. He wants freedom at any cost. He is manipulative and clever and a sleaze, but it is clear he wasn't always this way. The Addisons described him as unlucky if egotistical.

He also seems to like art, and he might even be good with tinkering cars and other technology. He is smart. He's just severely ill.

There also seems to be some people thinking now that he actually enjoys living in trash and being stinky when...literally one of the first things he talks about is how much he hates living in a dumpster. He's not a man who was destined to be discarded like trash and he doesn't enjoy it.

I feel a relation to Spamton like you do, because I've also been abandoned by my friends, even if I was a jerk in the past, and I constantly fear becoming homeless. I also have pretty bad OCD and tend to project it on him, the way he does repetitive behaviors and has severe obsessions over certain things like the NEO mech.

The thing about Spamton is that he's, not so much more subtle but more abstract about how he expresses these things due to his vocabulary. So it's not easy to interpret what he's saying as much as it is for Tenna who comes across as more coherent.

People want to quickly ignore that Tenna is emotionally abusive and gleefully puts children in danger for his own amusement and throws a tantrum when his massive ego is questioned, just because he happens to be more open about being lonely and having much more familiarity with Kris. That and how everyone expected him to be somehow worse than Spamton, but he ended up not being, because Toby doesn't write that kind of character.

^ I'll probably get hate for the above, but trust me, just watch the actual footage. He's nicer than Spamton generally, but he's still not great.

I know this is like my fourth time or something bitching about how Spamton's suddenly treated like literal garbage in the Deltarune community and I KNOW I'm being lame making another post related to a fictional character... But I have autism - SO YEA - AGREED. This bothers me???

I knew of Spamton from jump, but I got the brainrot of him when I had a parallel occur in my life (which I've not fully recovered from) concerning economic means and mental health.

In short, I lost my dream job and working within my dreamfield and it decimated my mental health and I have like - three conditions that mimic bpd when combined so I fucking spiralled. This video and this one really made me zing with this little gremlin. And while he objectively did horrific things *cough-murdersuicideattemptwithKris-cough* ... He's far more complex (hc) than just "lol he's evil and was always horrible".

Toby's been rather thorough with having wacky moments balanced with real social and or psychological commentary withing both Undertale and Deltarune. Claiming Spamton's nothing more than an evil little spam bot when dialogue and commentary from chapters 2 onward disprove that is so dishonest.

If anyting, he's an asshole victim. But he's still a victim. He's still complex.

i decided to watch some deltarune in jp for fun and learning. why is spamton in jp insane. his speech in english is nonsensical but oh my god, its so much more question mark in jp. my fave example is him saying "ワタ94", aka watakushi aka me/i (very polite). why does he say it like that. he says death instead of です at the end of sentences like some fucked up anime character what the 4.99.

oh, and tenna for some reasons uses tildes~ and hearts♡ in his dialogue. this man.

i love them both dearly but what kind of drugs was toby fox cooking in the deltarune 5 year long kitchens.

I love his speech in Japanese, I find it very clever. He really talks like a Japanese salesman as opposed to an American one and it translates over quite well while keeping his insanity intact.

ワタ94 is an example of a Japanese form of wordplay called Goroawase number, it makes for EXCELLENT puns! It's a bit like saying upd8 for "update" since it sounds the same (To use a Homestuck example), but there's far more potential in Japanese due to the syllabary system.

です/desu actually does sound similar to death, but more "des-" instead of th...You could say it's pronounced like "Dess"?
