“Yukio Mishima’s House,” by Kishin Shinoyama, 1995.
From 1961 until his death in 1970, author Yukio Mishima lived in a western style mansion in the Minato Ward of Tokyo. It was here Mishima wrote some of his greatest stories, “The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With The Sea,” “Thirst For Love,” and the “Sea Of Fertility” Tetrology.
It was also where Yukio Mishima and Eikoh Hosoe together created the master Photobook “Ba-Ra-Kei.”
The photos in this book are primarily photos of the details and decorations of said house, taken in 1971, not long before the house was demolished for unknown reasons. Although, as you see here, a lot of the pictures are ones taken by Kishin Shinoyama of Mishima while still inhabiting the house, often juxtaposed against photos of the same monuments or details without Yukio. via pinakotheca_books
