thinking about the time they sent me a seven year old autistic patient to investigate if he was suffering abuse because in every psychological test he kept drawing awful monsters
and I start the consultation already miserable as fuck and I give the kid some pen and paper so I can maybe communicate and see what's on his mind
and then I go WAIT A GODDAMN SECOND I KNOW THOSE MONSTERS
turns out the kid just had a special interest in Five Nights at Freddy's

YES THANK YOU
Honestly the obsession with astarion is a little exhausting, especially considering he is the one companion with absolutely no relevance to the wider plot of the game. Every other companion has something tying them to the plot, except for him. You could remove his side quest from the game completely, and the wider plot of the game would stay the same.
His story and character are interesting and add depth to the game... But so does literally everyone else. Or they would, if they had as much content as astarion gets. Which they don't.
Highlight of my day today was learning that unlike what I was told, this was not originally written to be an Astarion song, but the player’s theme,,,
THIS IS A DURGE THEME SONG‼️‼️‼️
THIS IS DURGE FIGHTING THE DARK URGE IM SO SICKKKKKKK
Tumblr media
With that in consideration, here’s my very summed up take on the lyrics from a very Redeemed Durge-pilled lens
Tumblr media
This with that context makes it so clear that’s durge getting drunk on the feeling of killing, with the breath possibly being Bhaal looming over the player, always out of reach, death in the literal sense. It can also just be the embodiment of the Urge itself, always ready to strike, a part of the player they aren’t able to escape.
However as the song progresses, I do feel like it transitions from Bhaal or the Urge to the player’s companions, especially when some of it does feel like the resisting the Urge scene where the player is CRAVING to kill their dearest companion
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sins being referred to also make much more sense if it’s Dark Urge figuring out their role in the absolute’s plan and realising all of the heinous things they’re responsible for, with the chain breaking being them fully renouncing their heritage to Bhaal in order to pave their own destiny.
Tumblr media
The last line also goes on par with the fact that at the end of the day, it’s the player that chooses the Dark Urge’s fate. This “this is what we get” can either refer to them being content with a life free from Bhaal or accepting that being a bhaalspawn will just always be their destiny which they’ll resign to.
Even though this song seems like duet between lovers at first, I do think it’s even more poetic if it’s Durge and the Urge itself, always intertwined no matter what the player does. The player can choose not to romance anyone in a playthrough, but even though they might have no companion, they’ll always have the Urge. The one thing that will always be with them.
IM THRIVING DURGE NATION
TODAY IM THRIVING AND DOING A LITTLE JIG
Also the confirmation from the song’s maker itself if anyone wants to argue that it is an Astarion themed song

For the last goddamn time...
"Kill your darlings" means "if something is holding you back, get rid of it, even if it sounds pretty."
That's it! That's all it means! It means if you're stuck and stalled out on your story and you could fix the whole block by removing something but you're avoiding removing that thing because it's good, you remove that thing. That's the darling.
It does NOT mean
That you have to get rid of your self-indulgent writing
That you should delete something just because you like it (?wtf?)
That you need to kill off characters (??? what)
That you have to pare your story down to the absolute bare bones
That you have to delete anything whatsoever if you don't want to
The POINT is that you STOP FEELING GUILTY for throwing out good writing that isn't SERVING THE STORY.
The POINT is that you don't get so HUNG UP on the details that you lose sight of the BIG PICTURE.
Good grief....

I’m proud to identify as morosexual. I’m attracted to dumbasses and dumbasses exclusively. A guy asked me what the Spanish word for tortilla was once and now I dream of kissing him under the moonlight
