As far as I am aware, according to Pattnaik, niyog was allowed even if the father was infertile. Since Pandu was basically cursed not to have sex I am assuming this would be applicable.
ok i have a question for the hindu mythology experts here. How does Yudhishtir even have a claim to the Kuru throne? Going by the rules of this world, the son has to be genetically related to the father right? The Pandavas are definitely not related to Pandu no matter how Kunti obtained them. There are only 2 ways they can be obtained:
1. The gods constructed babies from their essence which means theyre not genetically related to kunti/madri or pandu
2. The gods had intercourse with Kunti and Madri which means Yudhishtir is only related to Kunti and by proxy the Yadavas
Meanwhile Dritharasth’s sons are definitely genetically related to him. So doesn’t that mean, by tradition only Duryodhan should have a claim to the Kuru throne? Yk since he is actually a descendant of the Kuru dynasty?
Now I know many people will say Pandu opted for a sort of niyog ceremony, but isn’t the niyog ceremony only valid if the legal father is dead? Pandu was definitely not dead when his sons were born.
People might also say it’s because Yudhisthir was more just than Duryodhan, which okay might be a valid argument. But then again there were a 100 Kauravs, and there was one who was just
Vikrarna. If the problem was Duryodhan and Kuru kings were chosen via ability and not birth order (like how Pandu was chosen over Dhritharasht) then why not choose Vikarna as a king and have an actual Kuru descendant to become a Kuru king? Also not gonna go into how Bhishma is the only true Kuru descendant since Dhritharasht and Pandu are biologically related to Ved Vyas who is not related to the Kuru dynasty but only to Queen Satyavati so none of the princes are technically related to Shantanu. But again my question stands
why did Duryodhan not automatically get the throne due to being the eldest biological Kuru prince.
again i do not believe that adopted children are not as important as blood children but I’m just going by the rules of this world.

every time i see self-proclaimed siGmA mEn saying shit like “karna is the real hero of the mahabharata” i am more and more convinced that it should deadass be illegal for people to watch dramatizations of the mahabharata in hindi serials without having read the original story first. this is gonna be very long so you can scroll past if you want but i really need to get this off my chest.
i think we need to acknowledge that two things can and do coexist here: 1) karna was definitely dealt a shitty hand and a lot of his earlier life was determined by the way people around him treated him, and given the way the pandavas treated him in the beginning i’m not surprised he immediately took up duryodhana, who at first glance was a kind stranger in his pov, on this offer for a fresh start and a new friendship. but 2) after a certain point he stopped becoming a victim of the circumstances and started becoming responsible for his own choices.
you could argue that he was also being slightly manipulated and his generosity was being taken advantage of by shakuni, which it most definitely was, but that doesn’t absolve him of the fact that after spending a certain amount of time with duryodhana he knew what they were doing was wrong. he knew it when duryodhana made a plan to burn his cousins alive, he knew it when they decided to play the game of dice, he knew it when they decided to treat draupadi like an object and sexually harass her in public, he knew it when they all ganged up on whom he knew was his nephew and mercilessly murdered him. and he still stayed. rationalizing it with reasons like “loyalty to my friend who helped me even though he’s actively hurting other people for selfish reasons” and “the pandavas treated me like shit at first so i can now do the same for as long as possible.” two wrongs don’t make a right. again, he knows that.
and side note here, if karna really were a loyal friend, he’d know when to call duryodhana out on his bullshit. a loyal friend isn’t someone who sits by and supports you no matter what you do, it’s someone who isn’t afraid to be honest with you when you fuck up because they want you to become better and they know you can. krishna was that kind of friend to the pandavas, being on their side and supporting them but also not being afraid to call them out on their mistakes. that’s loyalty. not what karna and duryodhana had.
so yeah, what’s disappointing about karna is he knows the difference between right and wrong and he still deliberately aligned himself with the latter. krishna gave him an out, an option to join him and fight against adharma. MULTIPLE TIMES. he knew what potential karna had. but if karna doesn’t want to change, even after GOD HIMSELF gave him chances? PLURAL? then i’m sorry but he got what was coming to him. most people don’t get that many chances after doing the things he’s done.
karna’s is a heartbreaking story but only to an extent. after a certain point, we need to acknowledge that this is a grown ass man and therefore during the later parts of his life he was in control of his actions. a lot of the mahabharata could’ve been different if karna had aligned himself with the right cause. we all know he was a phenomenal warrior, if he had taken his out when krishna gave it to him then i honestly think he could’ve been more powerful than all the pandavas combined. but he made the choice not to. he was an enabler of someone who was causing mass destruction in the name of jealousy and vengeance. he was complacent in all of duryodhana’s actions and he had to reap the consequences. even he knew it. it is what it is. we can stand to learn a lot from his life and what kind of choices not to make, but not because he was a hero. he was the farthest thing from it.
okie done phew @lil-stark are you proud of me 😌

Iravan | Havan 2022 | Day 2
Let me tell you about Iravan.
What must it be like to be the son of the illustrious Pandava Arjuna, and yet not be as adored and cherished and idolised as Abhimanyu was?
Iravan, was the son of Arjuna and Ulupi, a Naga Princess. He finds more mention in the southern parts of our country where people uncomfortable with their assigned gender, often take refuge in him. For the story goes that, before the grand 18 day war began, both the sides approached the venerated Sahadeva for astrological purposes about the most appropriate and auspicious time to offer a sacrifice to the gods.
And unable to lie, Sahadeva offers the auspicious time, leaving it up to Krishna to cause confusion among the heavenly skies, such that Duryodhana and the Kauravas make the sacrifice at the wrong time.
And on the side of the Pandavas, as they discuss the greatness of whom to sacrifice, it is established that Iravan, the son of Arjuna, the commander of the armies would be the perfect sacrifice. Hearing this, Iravan requests for a last boon, he wishes not to die unmarried and hopes that his widow wails in sorrow for his death.
This calls for our very own Madhusudhan to don the form of Mohini (a man taking the form of a woman) and marrying him for a day, completes his life as a married man. Iravan is then, sacrificed in peace.
This has gone on to become a tradition for transgendered people in India to celebrate a festival in the South where they claim Iravan to be their husband and express their sorrow over his death.

Wait so nudity is not vanned anymore?
Tumblr announcing that they are unbanning nudity immediately after elon musk starts burning twitter to the ground is like pouring gasoline into an already open flame and then spitting on the ashes. The vindictive pettiness is so entertaining to watch--just outstanding

Query, didn't Satyavati get that boon from some sage to stop smelling of fishes and literally smell like heaven itself which attracted the king to her in the first place?

Yudhishthir always seemed to be lost in his own world world. He was pursuing spirtuality and stuff, but how at what cost will you give up your present world for the sake of spirituality. Despite his inhibitions he was a married man, and a King. He had responsibilities to cater to, right?
Ngl but Idk why people hate Dharmaraja Yudhishthir so much.
Yeah it's a fact that he had put Draupadi on stake but I would like to point out some things which are written in epic by Lord Ganesha who was dictated by Lord Vedavyasa.
Vedvyasa had told Yudhishthir about the war during Rajasuya Yagna. Not the deaths but the war due to which Yudhishthir pledged that he will listen to his elders. And as a warrior, he couldn't have backed down when Dhritarashtra asked for a Dyuta game. Thus, he had to accept.
Secondly, he didn't knew that Shakuni and the Kauravas will play such a foul play that the Kulavadhu of Kuru vansh will be disrobed and he loathed himself, he even asked Bheem to put his hands on fire.
And why do you guys idolize Karna, who literally ASKED Dushasana to disrobe Draupadi? No it wasn't Duryodhana. It was Karna who proposed the disrobing. Why Yudhishthir? Do you guys know these facts about Yudhishthir?
He went to Swarga with his MORTAL BODY, that is because he never had lied ever in his life. Even in Kurukshetra when Drona asked about Ashwatthama's dead, he told full truth but Krishna had played conches and drums and due to the sound of it, half of the truth got immersed in sound.
His chariot never touched the ground. It was always slightly above it.
He never wanted Draupadi to marry all of the brothers at first and even considered Arjuna marrying her and all of the four brothers going to Vanavasa but destiny had other plans.
Apart from Draupadi, he only had one wife Devika of Shibi Tribe.
He called Draupadi "Kalyani" which means "auspicious"
Please consider reading and completely clearing all of your misconceptions about him. And you can DM me too. I do not intend to fight anyone here but me being an ardent Mahabharata fan and seeing Yudhishthir as my elder brother and Jeth (pls I love Arjuna) I can't bear any disrespect towards him.
Also, here is a Yudhishthir art I found on Pinterest.
