BMG Analysis
Over the course of this semester I have encountered many different issues with my idea throughout the development of The Spark Program. From the generation of the idea, to the actual implementation of the idea during the rapid prototyping of The Spark Program, I was able to lean more and more about myself and the students that I am trying to help. Building this from the ground up has been a test of how much this program means to me. The first step in creating this program was to build the Business Model which helped me map out exactly what it is I wanted the program to look like and what its purpose was going to be. In the begging of the semester I had an idea of what I wanted but I was not sure what resources I would need nor what value the teens would draw from the program other then strength and conditioning knowledge. I was able to build some key relationships that will benefit me down the road when I go to continue building the foundation of The Spark Program.
One key resource and key factor that I did not anticipate were the involvement of the local community centers as well as the fitness community. The local community centers have all the resources necessary to run the program from the equipment, to the space, to the teens that fit the ideal customer. The school systems can sometimes take longer to gain access to the students, while compared to the community centers that already have teen counsels built into the weekly program and fitness rooms. Also, after careful consideration over my business model I realized that the most of the teens I am targeting will spend a lot of free time in or at the local community center because the services are free, and the students that like to participate in physical activity can do so at the community center. Also, I realized that because the only materials needed to run the program would be students and some equipment so any fitness facility that is willing to host the Spark Program which adds them to the “Key Partnership” list. The next correction that would have to be added to the business model would be the addition of how we will build a relationship with the students or the customer. I noticed that the students did automatically respect me during my prototyping session because I was the leader of the workout. However, the students did not open up to me until they had seen my face at the community center multiple times.
Based upon the two surveys that were collected I was able to gather more insight into both my students and their parents. A few things that stud out to me about the students responses were that when asked, “What drives you athletically?” The most popular answer was the challenge of the activity. Going into this I assumed that the fun would drive most of the athletes not the actual difficulty or skill level of the activity. This is important because moving forward I can show the students that they will always have a challenge in front of them to conquer in crossfit. The next big thing that stands out amongst the student survey was that most of the students got there information from Facebook, not Instagram or twitter. The rest of the survey revealed that my ideal customer was accurate and was correct. The parent survey showed some light that parents were either completely important or not important when it comes to their teen’s physical activity. This shows that it either the parent will be on board or will not be and that swaying the opinion could be difficult. Also, in the survey it revealed that the parents take their son or daughter to whatever organized event which would imply that the parents are more involved then I originally anticipated.
Over the course of the semester I have been able to work and overcome hurdle after hurdle when trying to get the prototyping done. It was difficult and presented a new challenge every step of the way and I was able to accomplish them. The business model generation is the best portion of the class because now I have some solid foundational information that I can draw from when building my curriculum and finding funding to continue to develop The Spark Program.

Prototyping Round Two
My second round of prototyping was held on April 15th again, at Jack McLean Community Center at 4:30pm in the north end of the basketball court. After going over the quizzes and assessing how I was able to give the information to the students I had come to the conclusion that for this round of prototyping I would deliver the information differently and clear and change the workout rep schemes and time allowed based on the performance of the first round or prototyping. So going into this round the workout had been changed to only a 5min AMRAP (As Many Rounds As Possible) of 8 Kettle bell swings, 10 Goblet Squats, 12 up downs or burpees and finally 1 suicide on the basketball court. The workout was changed from 8min to 5min because I had seen that the 8min was too long for the boys to sustain a high level of intensity safely that the workout was meant for. Also, because I had no idea who or how many students would be returning or how many new students I would have changing the workout allowed me to insure that I could test the students on the same material but in a different way and teach the same movements but giving better and clearer instructions, allowing the students to perform better on the quiz.
So going into this round I had another solid number of students, five, who were ready to learn. All but one, of the students had participated in organized sports or currently is participating in organized sports. I only had one returning student which did not make any difference considering that the workout was different however, built of the same movements. After a warm up, the returning students seem to automatically jump to the fore front of the group and assist me by being my demonstration which also allowed me to focus on speaking clearly and relaying the basics of the movements clearly. This student also, helped because he was able to remember the building blocks from the last session and teach his peers the foundation he had learned just a week prior. He was not perfect however, he did show that he could teach the small bit of information that he was taught in only one session successfully to other. Also, during this session I was able to run it smoothly because I was more time conscious and time sensitive. After the workout I was able to give the students the same quiz as the first session because it was a different set of students and because I had given the information clearer I hoped they would do better. Grading the quizzes it was clear the students did get most of the information but the majority did the same as the first session with the exception of one student getting a perfect score. The returning students did not take the quiz a second time but he did say that “this time it was more clear and smoother.” This prototyping session was definitely smother and better built do to the experience of the first prototyping.

Prototyping Round One
The first round of prototyping for The Spark Program was held on April 8th at Jack McLean Community Center at 4:30pm. The facility that was used was the north end of the indoor basketball court. I was able find six teens ranging from the ages of 14-17years old which all were involved in organized sports at some level. The workout that was given to the participates was an 8min AMRAP (As Many Rounds As Possible) of one suicide on the basketball court, eight kettle bell swings, eight sit ups, and finally eight air squats. The kettle bells that I had brought with me ranged from 15lb to 34lb however, I determined that the boys would only be using the 24lb kettle bells. The boys were somewhat attentive to the information and did get the key points. I did take note that the students were still somewhat inattentive to all the information. The students did get a good workout and did enjoy the workout based upon the quizzes that the students did take they were able to understand the key points that I was coaching them through. After analyzing the quiz I was able to determine that the students did pick up a big chunk of the information. They did great considering, that I was not giving the directions as clear as possible for them to understand. Also after analyzing the quiz that the students were given each student said, “They would do another workout session again.” Also, every student sad that, “they would feel comfortable teaching some of the information.” These two pieces of feedback did show that the students enjoyed the workout session and that they would feel comfortable teaching someone. This is a encouraging sign that the students are capable of leaning the material and then relaying the information on to another individual.

Key Resources and Competitive Analysis
The Spark Program was designed to be a program that allows Crossfit to reach out and touch! Crossfit as a sport prides its self on its strong community amongst the Crossfit Affiliates and its surrounding community. The Spark Program is designed to be the link between the Crossfit Affiliates and the surrounding teens in the community while providing them a safe environment for the teens to be empowered and learn. The Spark Program is designed to have a strong relationship with Crossfit HQ and USAW. These are the first building blocks of the program that will help lift the program off the ground. These are the first key resources because these are the two qualified certification courses that the teens will be testing for during the resources. The relationship between Crossfit HQ and the Spark Program is very important because Crossfit HQ will have the direct access to all Crossfit Affiliates. Through Crossfit HQ we will be able to have direct communications with Crossfit Affiliates around the world and in every major city. Not only will Crossfit HQ be sponsoring the teens to take the level one certification course but also establishing which boxes are large enough to host such a program and willing to do so. Also, throught the culture of both sports being intertwined with each other we will be able to find which Crossfit Affiliates already have existing USAW coaches in them and also which have established a barbell lifting club as well. To obtain this partnership The Spark Program will start out as its own program designed to help young teens get involved in and learn about Crossfit and physical fitness. The program will then grow and be under Crossfit HQ and provide them with a none profit organization that will salitify the Crossfit brand name while providing Crossfit Affiliates a tax benefit and exempting them from the yearly franchising fee for being one of the host gyms for The Spark Program. USAW will be a key partner and will be willing to work with us because not only through Crossfit Olympic Weightlifting is as popular as it ever been. In 2014 the American Open had its highest amounts of participating athletes and multiple USAW Nationally ranked lifters saying “This is purely because of Crossfit. Crossfit has helped revive American Weightlifting.”
The next key resource is with the school systems and the local community centers. These community centers and schools will be how we get our teens that will participate in the program. The purpose of this program is to get America’s teens from the lower demographic to get involved in The Spark Program. These schools are the direct link to the target customer for our program because they are already a foundation in the community, helping these teens. We must have a strong relationship with the school systems so that they can promote us to the teens as an after school program. We will use the schools and the community centers as the main resources to gain our consumers. The purpose of the community centers is to provide young kids or teens with a safe place to go and keep them off the streets. This will help aid them in and compel them to get teens involved in The Spark Program. We will go out in the community and meet with these community center directors and explain to them what The Spark Program is all about why it is important and why they should recommended it to the teens in there surrounding community. The Spark Program is not a program meant for all teens however, it is meant for teens who like physical activity or need some place to take out the stresses of life and the community centers will be able and have an obligation to bring us those teens.
Competitively we will be competing with all other after school programs for the teens to come to us we appeal to their imagination. The Spark Program is an athletic based program so we will only appeal to those students that are interested in physical activity. The greatest thing about these programs is because we are helping America’s teens and we are educating the teens about Crossfit and Olympic Weightlifting our competitors can still be used as a channel to get more teens into our program. The great part about The Spark Program is we can use the programs such as GOplay60 that the NFL promotes to help boost The Spark Program because we are providing the teens a different educational program rather the NFL’s program is to just get the kids active. Our lane is able to draw from those programs because the other programs will show use which kids we should target based on their physical activity already. Our toughest competition could be the lack of knowledge students have about Crossfit or negative image they could have.
