See You Yesterday by Rachel Lynn Solomon: book, 7/10
This is just a really fun time loop romance with both a charming protagonist and love interest. They sure do loop time.

Charli by Charli xcx: Album, 6/10
listened to this to try impress someone i really want to be friends with and, even without my wanting to like it because she does, this is an excellent hyperpop album, 1999 especially is a really really good song. check it out if you want something a little less accessible (but imo better) than brat.

How To Rob a Bank by Tom Mitchell: 5/10
Catagory: Book
I enjoyed the casually mad places this book went without it being anything particularly special.

Bridget Jones’s Diary: 5/10
Some really funny moments and the existence of hugh grant are great, otherwise a little boring.

Face For The Radio/Voice For A Silent Film by Poptropicaslutz!: 6/10
This is a really fun mid-2000s sounding emo album that doesn’t take itself too seriously, Strawberry Sorbet and A Flair For Conclusions, Yet She’ll Never Be Swan Queen are standouts that i really enjoyed. Also i have to mention Sierra Echo X-Ray both for a silly title and for being a song about losing at board games before sex.

please be nice by Camping In Alaska: 4.5 10
I don’t have a huge amount to say, this is just a decent midwest emo album. there’s no “brian” in team, i just want to kickflip into the sunset and disappear, and dragon ball z budokai tenkaichi 4 are pretty good. The rest are a little mid. I enjoyed it.

Basic Lee, Live at The Lowery by Stewart Lee: 8/10
I really want to not overuse the high numbers on this scale but here is something that definitely deserves it. Stewart Lee is incredible.
This is less “weird” and meta than the other stuff of his I’ve seen (a fact he addresses in the show) and having his countercultural comedy sensibilities applied to something that as at least a little more conventional is really interesting. The joke about J K Rowling is a standout, starting as a funny observation, then goes in an unexpected, meta, and incredibly funny direction.
I think the ending sequence of imagining normal life loses steam a little bit, it’s performed really well but goes on a bit long (i know thats part of the bit, even with that context i still think it does) and has a bit less punch than the last proper expansion on the idea of his autism* diagnosis should.
*he never says the word autism, but i think autism is pretty clearly what he was on about.
the closing joke is weird. i like it but it isn’t about the autism thing at all, it relates to the broader theme of going back to standup in general i suppose. it feels out of place and i feel if the normal life bit ended with a bit more power it wouldn’t be needed.
Overall, Stewart Lee is a genius, and so am i, cause i like him. Go watch this, theres a full upload on youtube.

ONE MORE TIME… by blink-182: 3/10
Blink are too old for their immaturity to be charming and don’t really have ideas beyond “what if we were blink-182 but kinda old.” fell in love is good and the end of turpentine is fun but otherwise this is a 44 minute album that feels so much longer.

AEW full gear 2024: 5/10
Here is way too many words about a wrestling show.
I can’t give a show with Ospreay vs Fletcher, Mone vs Statlander, and a match with the amount of emotion Orange Cassidy vs Jon Moxley gave me anything less than a 5/10 but I really wasn’t that into the rest of this show.
The tag match was too devoted to the Acclaimed storyline (which ngl I’m kinda bored by) and at a time where Private Party needs a showcase, its bad to give them as little of the match as you did.
Roderick Strong and MJF was nothing. A weird build without max there in person means I dont care about it, I love MJF, Roddy is good in the ring, but also I do not care.
Mone and Statlander RULED. I loved this match the meteora as a throughline was so fun, these two are absolute stars. we need more women’s wrestling.
Jay White and Hangman was fun, Jay is so unique in style, I don’t like how much Hangman is losing, especially if he’s going into a world title match.
Ospreay and Fletcher was a Will Ospreay ppv match, so it’s unbelievably good. Will is the best wrestler in the world right now and an actual magic wizard. this is an incredible showcase for Kyle Fletcher, Will gives him so much, Kyle Fletcher is that guy. I predict heel Aussie Open will win the tag titles at grand slam.
Champagne Celebration was a first chapter to a story that should have started after All In. I thought maybe we could care about women’s wrestling after All In but we’ve been given nothing for too long for this turn to matter. the match will be good though.
Garcia vs Perry was fine, glad Garcia had a big win, he needed it. The dragonslayer finally working was cool and a really nice piece of story. This suffered from a crowd that didnt really care I think.
Ricochet vs Takeshita was fun, suffered from the crowd but this could have been so much more. I had high expectations for this match and it didn’t really reach them. Will and Fletcher having a similar style of match that was really excellent really showed how… ok this match was.
Swerve and Bobby was really really good. I do not like Swerve taking 3 big losses in a row even though he has still looked great in defeat. He is my guy, I love him. This was an excellent showcase for Bobby, the Hurt Syndicate are awesome, but now i just need like, 3 straight months of Swerve winning everything.
Mox vs Cassidy. Man. I went in knowing that Orange cassidy was losing but they made me believe. Moxley is the best at this like, “brawler” style of wrestling and seeing Cassidy as fired up as he was, and caring that much was great from a storyline perspective. Obviously the story needs Moxley to retain, obviously, but for 3 seconds after that briefcase shot I believed. Orange Cassidy is the best. The post-match was interesting but confusing. If we’re building to a 4 way at worlds end i’m not really a fan of that, doesn’t feel like it fits a story this high-stakes.

ranking every big thing i see till the end of 2025 (if i stick with this) on a 1-10 scale (ie, albums not songs, wrestling shows not wrestling matches but i will definitely break that rule)
I will make a spreadsheet that i will update as this goes
10s are incredibly rare and have changed me as a person (hollow knight, (500) days of summer, danger days: the true lives of the fabulous killjoys)
9s are also really rare, and are excellent pieces that might not have had the same massive impact on me (celeste, baby driver, the 1975 self titled)
8s are approaching the more normal level of absolutely excellent media, these are great pieces that i can still notice flaws in
(stray gods, monkey man, everything is a lot)
7s are just really good
(shovel knight, across the spiderverse, when we were friends)
6’s are actively good media that i really enjoyed,
(doom eternal, no time to die, electra heart)
5s will probably be the most common rating, good stuff with flaws or without anything standout excellent that particularly grabs me, 5’s are still good!!!
(horizon zero dawn, big hero 6, short and sweet)
4s are fine, either really good in some aspects with notable flaws or just kinda mid
(any CoD game, glass onion, utopia)
3s are bad.
(overwatch 2, eternals, dangerous)
2s are really bad, notably large technical flaws
(fallout 76, ready player one, vultures 2)
1s are bad to a level that they become incredible
(gang beasts, moneyplane, DPC123)
