His life had been punctuated by horrible awakenings, in and out of cold sleep as the ark ship conducted its centuries-long odyssey. Each time he had found himself in another time, another world, less fit for human habitation. That was what the nightmares were about: not the cold itself, which was only a trigger. Not even that he might not wake, though that had been a real possibility with the Gilgamesh’s failing life support. He feared waking once more into a world he didn’t understand, where everyone else had rushed ahead and left him behind. - Adrian Tchaikovsky, Children of Ruin

Ms. Marvel comes out in a few hours. I know many are hating on it due to the usual reasons… (she’s a female character of colour, AND a teenager) so i understand being frustrated with them, however, as a Muslim brown girl myself, this is a reminder to not assume every criticism is being made by dudebros. Or even salty comic fans.
Western “Muslim Rep” has always been a joke, and there’s a good chance (I hope I’m wrong, but the trailer is telling me otherwise, and the comics themselves had a lot of their issues) that this show is exactly like that. And I am so sick of it. I’m so tired of the same overused, recycled, offensive tropes and harmful stereotypes always always being used for muslim characters, especially young muslim girls.

As a brown muslim, I don't want to see any goras criticising Kamala or her family
Fuck you if you do.
Reminder that family dynamics differ from a culture to another heck from a household to another this isn’t an excuse to villanize a dynamic different than your own

having a show like ms marvel in mainstream media means so much to me as a brown person. all my life i've grown up watching media that stereotypes brown people and makes fun of them, essentially reducing them down to 'nerd with glasses and funny accent who can't get dates.' i can't tell you how happy it makes me to see a peice of media filled with brown people that celebrates them, lets them have different personalities and lets them be... people.
on top of that, the main character being a brown GIRL makes me unspeakably happy. i'm in tears because little brown kids, especially girls, are going to watch this show and know that they can be superheroes too, that they can be anything they want :)
