“Pretending 2011 makes us a couple actually. You really make it harder and harder to make me wanna help you.”
“However, I will take the high road for once and help you.”
“we were ‘together, together’ in 2011, weren’t we? forgot about that for a second. must have been because that was the year you fucked half of the baseball team behind my back.”

“hm, i wish i could take the high road right now,” spencer said to himself, probably thinking about pot.

“Dude aren’t you like 20 or something, why do you need viagra?”
“Hmm.. Simply she wrote a burn book about you or you really have a small penis and you are lying about it. What should I believe?”
“just turned twenty, actually, last month. had a huge party, everybody in my frat got hella turnt.”
“well, mrs. smart pants, i was joking about the viagra. you could ask laura hayward herself, sex with me was probably the best action she ever got.”

“That makes us a couple. Is that really what you want? Just for a stupid paper? I don’t think so.”
“trust me, babe, me going down on you does not makes us a couple. if that were true, i’d be in a relationship with like four different chicks right now -- which i’m not.”

“Really? Those words don’t work on me anymore Spence. This is not 2011.” Laura chuckled nervously. “Actually you know what? How about I help you and we do this together instead of I do all the work and you do all the sitting.”
“i’ll go down on you if you do all the work, we can just pretend it’s 2011.”

“Now it makes so much more sense. It’s probably your girlfriend. Are you sure is it you though? Because it book says, you embraced life with your micro sized penis. Is that true?”
“well, that would be what sparked my viagra addiction.”

“in all honesty, there’s either no way in hell that’s me or my ex-girlfriend published her diary full of angry lies after i dumped her.”

“I always have time for you.” She smiled, leaning her back. “What is it?”

Although Maya graduated from college two years ago, she still used her school’s library, mostly for killing her time. As she was reading a book, she noticed someone. He was probably a college student. Maya looked at the boy and said; “Do you wanna borrow my book? It name is Fifty Shades of Horny Teenage Boy.” She teased slightly younger boy.
“wow, i didn’t know someone made a novel about my high school years. just wait until you get to senior year -- that was the prime horny teenage boy sex year. I had broken up with my girlfriend around that time and the ass that was thrown at me was the fuckin' crip.”

Laura was too busy lately, she was literally working her ass off. It was her hell week, bunch of assignments, essays and research paper have been waiting for her. She was unrecognizable, for the first time in her life she was in sweatpants. She pulled her hair as messy bun, wearing her reading glasses. She was lost in her book until heard a familiar voice. It was Spencer’s voice but she could’ve been hallucinating because they were in the library. And in Laura’s mind library and Spencer didn’t mix. She narrowed her eyes, turning to the sound. As soon as she clearly heard the word porn, she was sure that the voice was coming from Spencer. She rolled her eyes, sighing deeply. “Hey stranger.” She chuckled. “If you are gonna do it, use those computers and do it responsibly.”
“oh, c’mon, laura,” spencer playfully tapped his ex-girlfriend’s arm. “you know i always come responsibly.”
“hey, um, how much time do you have on you?” inquiring about laura’s whereabouts, spencer considered using laura’s assistance on his paper.

spencer has already spent five prior hours in the library. it was now eleven pm and he was growing more and more delirious as he came closer to finishing his fifteen paged research paper. in the spurt of boredom, he returned to the stacks, in search of another business man’s publishing about america’s productivity. he picked up and put back several works – wall street capitalism, america’s true opportunity cost, the wealth gap – everything reminded him of the distance between him and his family. he wanted to desperately to call his younger siblings, see how their mother was doing. you’re finally getting back on track with school, they can handle it themselves, he’d tell himself. when someone approached his side, he joked, “do you think you can check out some quality porn in this library? i’ve been here since six, and as a chronic masturbater since the age eleven, i don’t think i could handle another hour”. it was an easy way to distract himself from all matters at hand.

spencer focused on his cell phone as he reviewed the list of alcohol he was to buy with his fake i.d. he had become the plug for most of the kids on campus. spencer had three hundred dollars and a hand full of bottles to pick up. when spencer heard a soft woman’s voice, he pulled his sunglasses to sit on top of his hair and matched the voice with cheerful smile. “i’m sure your savior fucked me up enough when he stuck me with two meth-head parents – but if you show off your cleavage a little more, i’m sure more people would actually be interested in listening to you.”
christabelle stood at the entrance of the grocery mart with her nanay, a stack of brochures in her hands and even more on the table behind her. it was saturday, and that meant most people did their food shopping today; the perfect opportunity to reach out and touch people’s hearts. she stopped one particular passerby in their tracks and put on that smile her nanay taught her. “hello, hello. if you don’t mind, i’d like to talk about you about salvation and what jesus christ did for our sins.”
#i'm typing this while tearing up this coconut cake in the caf so sorry if it's ugly#also omg did you have to hand out jesus brochures?

Laura wished she would say or do something helpful but she couldn’t. The only thing she can do was be there for him, like she always has. Things always have been easier for her. She didn’t know the meaning of real struggle. However that doesn’t mean she didn’t understand what was Spencer going through. Their backgrounds were completely opposite and that fact tore them apart. Laura gave him a reassuring smile, holding his hand tightly, “I would love to help. Just because we are not together doesn’t mean I give up on you.”
“I am sorry for my lack of knowledge of your slang Spence.” She said, rolling her eyes. They were being themselves again. Those two, even though in their best days, couldn’t stop themselves making snarky comments. That’s the way they interacted. It was exhausting but also playful. After all being exhausting was their thing. As he played her blonde locks, Laura put her head on his lap. “This reminds me old times, good ones. You used to play with my hair until I fall asleep, remember?”
“I know,” Spencer smiled down to his knees, knowing that Laura had always planned on being there for Spencer from the moment they meet. “I wouldn’t blame you if you had given up on me,” his eyes, dilated from prior drug use focused on Laura’s face, smile still concentrated onto his expression, “Thank you for not giving up on me,” he half-whispered. “C’mon, don’t act like you don’t know me and all my Yonkers street cred,” he laughed, “No, you’re right, I’m a piece of shit,” he continued to joke.
“Oh the old times,” Spencer rested his head against the wall, allowing Laura to lie her head against his shoulder as he continued to run his fingers through his hair, “What I would do to go back to high school...”

Laura listened Spencer carefully. “If you don’t visit her, you will regret. She loves you Spencer, you should be there for her. You are right, it’s not an easy situation, and yes it would be so hard but that doesn’t mean you should avoid her. We will figure out.” She said as an old habit, correcting herself afterwards. “I mean you will.” The fact she couldn’t use the word we anymore hurt Laura more than she could ever imagined. She sighed deeply, seeing Spencer sad wasn’t something Laura would want. She was so used to his carefreeness, his chill attitude. “Just promise me, you are going to see Marialena, okay?” She knew how much it would hurt not showing how much you care when you actually did.
As they were sitting together on Laura’s bed, she remembered how much time they spent together on that bed. They shared tons of memories, some were sad, some were great. He was the big part of her life, and always will be. And nothing was ever going to change that. “What is fuckton?” She chuckled, putting her head on his shoulder. She held his hand as they speak, her thumb was rubbing his hand gently. Spencer had oddly small hands and Laura always made fun of them. Sitting with him in that very moment made her sad because they weren’t together together, but also made her content because she knew she was still a big part of his life as well.
Spencer stared down at Laura, who was resting at his shoulder as she spoke to him, reassuring him that everything would be fine. He knew Laura only desired the best for him, but he also knew Laura couldn’t understand the realness of the exact situation before. As intelligent as the woman was, she didn’t have the same perceptive as he did -- the project mentality, growing up with relatively nothing. Spencer had always known this was the reason their characters were so polar opposite from each other, and it was probably the main reason they were no longer together. No longer having the energy to keep up with Laura, Spencer just nodded his head in agreement. “It’s not like your help wouldn’t be appreciated, L.”

“A fuckton is a fucking ton, pretty self explanatory, babe,” and with sassy remark that only Spencer could deliver, his previous emotions were almost entirely brushed aside and he was back to his normal self. As he was enjoying the moment, though, Spencer watched Laura’s figure as she sat almost upon him. His fingers traced from her back to her hair, playfully twirling it. “Yeah -- I’ve missed this a fuckton.”
