my most recent piece! there is a timelapse on my instagram @spi.tcart
my artists statement: My piece is untitled. It features a man in yellow and purple over a background of colorful abstract shapes. What does it mean? That is up to you. When a viewer experiences art, they are reflected back at themselves. Thoughts that come up as you look at an image are directly tied to who you are. It is in these moments that we can learn about ourselves and our worldview through art. To direct, interrupt, or control these moments by solidifying one interpretation as the “truth” minimizes the most valuable aspect of art, and is in nature, authoritarian.

some more firealpaca digital work
i feel like there’s definitely some obvious cyberpunk edgerunner influence, but can you blame me? that show was so good, plot, art style and all.
anyway, i like this one and i’d like to do a second version that looks more polished and engaging

a digital piece i did for an instagram competition, prompt: war & peace
i drew heavily from the YOURE DEAD! - flying lotus album cover by shintaro kago. a really incredible piece, as are all of his.
i’m pretty proud of this one, i struggle a lot with making digital art and making it look good. this probably took 3x as long as it should have. i use a wacom tablet wired into my laptop so i usually have to redraw every line at least three times. a lot of the proportions are off, which i think degrades the piece’s quality by a lot. and the background is really extra but it had to have peace too. personally my favorite is the cream background.

two variations of a piece i did early this year (2022). it came from an assignment to draw a can or some sort of drink in my graphic design class. i had taken shrooms the night before or maybe a couple days before and was just messing around till an idea came to me, and the logo was born. you can see what came out of this session in the header on my profile. i think the psychedelics also played a part in my overall concept for the piece, im proud of its uniqueness. also, it’s phone sized! so if you need a new background ;)
Tumblr media
the first picture is with digital elements added as it was a requirement for the assignment, but i like the more plain looking one better.
i do not condone drug use for the sake of art. it’s tempting, and i myself succumbed to it for a good while. but that stuff will take your soul and leave you with nothing. you can’t sustain a lifelong career off of drug art, you’ll burn out. you’ll spin out, get stuck in psychosis (which is not fun contrary to what gnarls barkley would have you believe). so, just keep grinding yall, and when inspiration hits, make sure you have a pen and paper near.

a digital piece i made in firealpaca not but a couple weeks ago for a sevensixties drawing challenge: war and peace. i drew heavy inspiration from the “YOURE DEAD!” album cover which i believe was done by Shintaro Kago. also just a great album.
i hate drawing digitally, and this probably took me 3x as long as it should have. nonetheless, fun piece to work on, and i learned a lot.
have a nice day yall :)

here is an iron sculpture i made recently from a sand block. i think it’s a pretty standard project for intro 3D design classes. nonetheless, very fun to make, and very fun to see what other people made.
here’s the artist statement i wrote for class: My piece “Origins” is an iron plate, casted from a sand block. It features in one corner a sort of topographical pattern, in another corner many rods shooting up from the base. The center focus is two lipped shapes, with wavy irregular edges. Lots of my art features references to the origins of our creation, or our consciousness. The topographical element represents our interpretations of our surrounding world, and gives the piece a bit of a setting to exist in. The rods spreading out through the piece seem to represent growth, expansion. The coral looking structure in the middle looks perhaps like a mushroom, or some sort of simple multicellular organism, or maybe an algae that provides oxygen for us to breathe. Through the middle of this structure you will find small topographical structures connected by lines. They look to me almost like crop circles, or like a map of a journey from planet to planet, spreading life. This refers to theories that our origins may be extraterrestrial. (i forgot to mention the ribbed thing in the bottom right, which was inspired by baboons)
also, the name is bullshit let me know if you have a better one. sorry i don’t have more detail pics, maybe i’ll get some tomorrow.

here’s something i finished two days ago for school. the assignment was to have the main subject of a skull and fill the background with death symbolism. it’s on 18x24 paper. i used a black posca paint pen, a copic grey marker set, and some micron pens for this one. i tried to make it fisheye but i realized after i traced the thing 3 times and inked it and finished it that the skull wasn’t in fisheye perspective at all.
to describe the symbolism a bit, the skull (obviously). behind it are two guns held by skelly hands. guns are i think the most prominent modern death symbolism. they’re held by skeleton hands as opposed to the fleshy bodies behind them to imply the dead saying “come join us,” or something. coming out of the eyes, mushrooms are 1) the beginnings of life on earth, and 2) the end of life on earth. they link the circle together. the universal recyclers. less obvious is the planet in the background, which i filled with a pattern inspired by Favolaschia Calocera, an orange cool looking mushroom. this was really just a stylistic choice but it reflects by belief in the theory that maybe mushrooms were planted here as a seed of life that originated extraterrestrially. mushroom spores are actually capable of surviving space in some cases. the bodies in the background (which are frankly mid) represent the fact that we’re all in this together, and we all end up in the same place. and space adds a little innocent beauty to the piece, in the hopes that that’s where our souls go when we die.
this is probably the longest time i’ve spent on a piece ever. i used up a whole marker filling in the lighter greys. my black posca marker is now running a little thin. definitely worth it in the end. anyway, if you read all this, thank you! i hope you have a wonderful day and feel free to hmu if you have any questions!
